People want to exhume him anyway. Can’t we just let him rest? If not for the curse then out of respect for the man. He gave us ageless work. The least we can do is honor his last wish.

Look at that awful poem on his tombstone. There's no way this man wrote the great plays.
@Scorp3164 жыл бұрын
@@purefoldnz3070 Shakespeare allegedly feared the thought of being exhumed or disturbed after he died. So he wrote the curse to ward off those who might try to dig him up.

There’s a theory according to which he was buried with several unpublished manuscripts.

There is nothing in that grave. I has been opened in the distant past, I believe, and an ultrasound was conducted on the area. Nothing. Besides, it's something like 3' x 3'. Not enough space to place a body -- unless he was cremated. But don't tell anyone in Stratford. The entire economy will collapse overnight.

No one notices that the inscription is of very low quality when compared to Shakespeare's supposed plays, poems, etc?
@fidulario2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, trochaic octosyllables with a rigorous doubly symmetrical scheme is not my idea of low quality. Besides, nobody said they were written in his mature period. Perhaps a manuscript from his youth, when he was attestedly experimenting with all sorts of meters and forms.

He's absolutely right about the curse being to protect him from the charnel house. Such admonitions were quite common. It's not because he was famous and thought people would dig up his bones. I hadn't heard tell that the wall memorial was put up by his wife. Evidence for that would be overwhelming evidence for the Stratfordians. I would love to know the source for that. If you look at early engravings of the memorial you can see it shows a very different picture. A very different man with his hands on a woolsack not a pen. Shakespeare dealt in wool as did his father. My view is that it was of his Father and later changed ( there is record of it's reconstruction in the church records in 1746 ).
