Fun fact~ The normal earthbending style/movement are a type of kung fu style (not sure which) but Toph's earthbending style looks different because hers is praying mantis style kung fu. You can see her hand movements resembles of a praying mantis when she's bending

Fun fact. The boulder was originally supposed to be voiced by The rock, hence the name the boulder. But due to scheduling conflicts he couldn't do it so the part went to Mick Foley who was also a wrestler by the name of Mankind

Toph is the MVP of the gang! Not only she is the most badass character you will ever see, but she is also the best earthbender... ever!! If she and Bumi ever came face to face... I think not even Ba Sing Se would be able to remain standing in the end. And, interestingly, she was made for the show at the last moment, because Aang's earthbending teacher was meant to be a big, muscled 16-year-old boy (like in the intro). However, the creators thought the idea of a little girl taking down big strong men was too good to not make it a reality. And that was one of the best ideas they could have made, because they introduced us to a new earthbending style. Toph's earthbending style was modeled after a fighting style invented by a blind woman.

The real star of the show appears. Even though they hint at her (Bumi's prediction about Aang's teacher...The Swamp) no one is prepared for Toph. The Aang Gang now becomes much more badass. ALMOST unbeatable. This also is the beginning of a series of mostly stellar episodes, some among the best other than the show finale (and the show summary episode!).

Toph wouldn't have won the money. The money was only for the person who could defeat the blind bandit - the current champion. Toph would have just taken the belt and the title. So Xin Fu thought, Toph lost on purpose, so Aang and Toph could get the money and then split it between them :)
