In the origin story he was training to be a summoner. On a test he was suppose to summon some creature but ended up summoning a monster that caused caos and destruction in a village nearby. Then he was punnished (or something) so he was lit on fire for like 10 days or some shit and that is how he lost his eyes.

Just to mention he got his punishment (to sit and meditate in a fire) because he was training and tried to overwork by summoning some kind of powerful creature, instead he summoned a child which killed the child in the process. Also the summoning caused the child's whole village to burn down. The summoners did not punish him though, they were kind of impressed that Lee Sin could have summoned something but Lee Sin was ashamed so he decided to make his own punishment which was to sit in the fire which burned his eye sockets out. (The More You Know:D)

Hey Necrit, don't know if you've already read the vastaya story and/or if it was already clarified earlier, but near the end of the journal the darkin seem to be confirmed to be the weapons. This would mean Aatrox is the sword, not the demon thing holding it. This might finally settle the argument of who the other 2 known darkin are, as riot had said that there were 5 darkin, 3 of which we knew and only 1 of which was confirmed: Aatrox.

You could have gone into more detail about the start, He wasn't just a mage he was training to become a summoner and was eager to prove himself so he tried summoning in secret. He summoned parts of a child and later learnt the child's village was destroyed but because of his talents he was offered forgiveness; he refused this and instead went on to become a monk (Idk if this is still the case it was relevant last time I read his lore it may have been changed and if it has been sorry for trying to correct you)
