I'm a Jewish convert to the Catholic Faith. I appreciate very much these videos by Dr. Pitre, especially because of the "first century Jewish" perspective. When I read Ezekiel's description (Ezekiel 47) of the water "flowing from under the right side of the Temple, south of the altar," that becomes a mighty river, I always associate that with the blood and water flowing from the side of Christ. Ezekiel goes on to describe the new life and healing powers of this river, just as the Sacraments bring new life and healing to the world. I can't remember if Dr. Pitre mentioned this chapter of Ezekiel in this video, but perhaps in another one?

It's so easy to get caught up in the worldly things and stories. Once you stop and break away from that nonsense (because that is what it is) and focus on the Word of God, you will understand the meaning of the gospel ..When you really get into the bible and understand all of the layers , it's far more beautiful and interesting than anything you have ever heard. I was lost for a few years and I felt God call me back after the death of my mother. Now I'm getting it . Thank you for this breakdown of . While I agree with the spiritual meanings behind water and blood story, it also presents an actual physical/medical and historical account of the event. From this account, we know that the spear pierced his lung for sure. That's the only way you could get water & blood come out separately which is a very rare phenomenon. 99.99% of times there's no wafer and blood separation. Ask yourself if you have ever seen one? we only see blood... Yet in the 1950s it was proved to be medically possible called "pleural effusion". It could happen to someone when one experiences lots of trauma. This is another reason to accept John’s description of the crucifixion as an eyewitness account because no one knew this was possible until the 1950s, yet he saw and wrote down exactly what happened.

Yes this is absolutely correct. Back then there was no way to medically describe this. Johns words and reassurance are the key. I find this passage to be one of my favorites now God didn't have to do this. The Fall of Adam caused death both physically and spiritually. A plan of salvation , to save us from eternal death was the work up on the cross. During those hours the amount of pain and suffering endured as Christ took on all of our sins. To know what he went through to save us , it's something that proves his love. The gospel saves us but only if we believe. Blessings.

I watched this on this Easter Sunday - just a few minutes ago. Having experienced an already meaningful Paschal Triduum, your valuable synthesis of the meanings in 3 layers of the blood and water at the side of Christ, has provided me a true treasure on this Easter celebration. To God be the Glory! Because I too have seen 3 practical Resolutions for myself : 1) Endeavour to seek true understanding through the Magisterium, and other means provided through the Church and persons who are solidly formed in the doctrine. 2) Not to fear in times of suffering, pain and troubles. Omnia in Bonnum! 3) Rather, strive to be a bearer of joy, love and peace, as God commands, and in order to bear much fruit, for He would be pleased. ("Love is to be repaid with love". Dr. Petre I haven't stopped crying by reading again the passage of Saint John Gospel by your interpretation viewed by the first Jewish Christians. I'm so grateful to God that my parents baptized me and brought me into the Body of Christ. Also, you helped me to put myself in the shoes of Saint John when he was a young man, witnessing the death of his Lord and Master on the Cross, holding his Lord's Holy Mother. What immense grace of fortitude he might have had to be chosen by God to be present at the moment of our redemption, so he could record it in his Gospel for our benefit. You might wonder why there was both water and blood? The water would be due to the pooling of fluid from gravity in the extremities the failing of the heart as not enough blood was returning to the heart.The blood fluid and clotted would leave any large vessel or heart . I like the discussion of the blood and water being the blood of the feeding of the church and the water of baptism.The blood and water leaving the temple was interesting.

Wow! What a "Father" we have! How Fully & Complete, without end*, is His Love for us. Moses blessed the Aft of covenant with blood and water. Jesus blessed and purifier with blood and water. An archeolog found the ark of covenant of Moses, where it was hidden, right under the Golgota, where died Jesus. When Jesus died, there was an earthquake, and a crack appeared at the cross of Jesus, that same spot found by the same archeolog found also (the square hole of the cross; two higher 'cross holes' where found each side). It happen that this crack "jointed" the underground area where the ark of covenant was found. And, at the time he found the ark, this archeolog found also some "substence" looking as corrosion, which for 2000 years should have been dust... This substence felt from a crack from the ceiling of the small cavern where the ark was hidden, just under the crack at the foot of the cross. I'm not making this up. From this perspective, Jesus's blood and water blessing also the ark of covenant, as blessing what represents the ark, the exode of the Jews, the freedom with the completion of the old testament, its prophets who spoke from God, who prophesied about Jesus's ultime sacrifice for mankind. Also, Jesus's blood and water blessing the Land of Israel. Blessed are those who understand Jesus's sacrifice as they believe in Him. Thanks for your teaching, your speech. I always looked upon the blood and water coming from the the side of Christ : The water cleanses away our sins. Kind of like to admitting absolution of our sins as in confession. We are freed of our sins. The Blood pouring out of the Side of Christ is purification: the Graces we receive through God ‘s Divine Mercy to strengthen us in His Great Love. Take reconciliation very seriously. It is a way to realize our humanity and God : Christ ‘s Divine Power, His Gentle yet powerful Love.
