Very interesting viewpoint. But I just have one question,in Matthew 21:18, the Bible says that Jesus was hungry and therefore looked to the fig free for fruit. If the fig tree was symbolic of death,then why would he look to eat it's fruits in the first place
@SaintCharbelMiracleworker

Jews still eat figs today even though it is symbolic of death.Just as christians over millennia have eaten apples even though many mistakenly believed it to be the forbidden fruit that Eve ate. Jesus was hungry so he looked to the fig-tree for food for the body and ended up using it as an opportunity for a lesson in prophetic theology as food for the soul.

The interpretation Ive heard is Jesus was speaking to Israel the fig tree was Israel they bore no fruit they rejected Him. Jesus was hungry for the Jews to accept Him as Saviour. He knew there would be no fruit he grew up there it wasn't the right time. Jesus then cursed the tree snd it died and after the crucifixion so did Israel.

Interesting. I've read that the fig tree is also a type of the old covenant because the Hebrews read the scriptures under a fig tree, so that became a symbol for the Old Testament. When Jesus tells Nathan that he was looking for Him, and that He saw him under the fig tree means Nathan was searching for the Messiah under the fig tree, meaning the Scriptures, and that the Messiah saw Nathan from the Scriptures. Something like that.

That is interesting, thanks for posting. As an aside, I think what you meant to say is under the fig tree can mean or represent the Old Covenant as opposed to being a 'type' of Old Covenant. Typology is more specific - Adam is a type of Christ, Christ is antitype of Adam (which I think fell out of favor because of the awkwardness of saying Christ is anti anything).

The fig tree represents Jerusalem and the temple in scripture. The fig tree that Jesus cursed had all of its leaves. Giving off the appearance that it would hold fruit. Some fig trees actually bloom early and give figs early. I believe this tree was a symbol of hypocrisy of Jerusalem and the temple. It gave off the appearance of a tree that would have fruit but upon inspection it had no fruit. Just like Jerusalem and the temple. Jesus’ curse was a judgment, condemnation, and a prophesy.

*Dr, Pitre, your explanation about eunuchs and the celibate priesthood is wonderful,* *however, re. Fig tree, Jesus in fact went in search for fruits and only when he found none he cursed it .* *_In most of the fruit tree species, there is unseasonal fruiting trees in some odd trees, it is a possibility and horticulturists know this fact._* *Hence Jesus and the fellow Apostels were aware about gathering fruits from such trees,* _what happened as per another interpretation was that, the tree had a false appearance as it had fruits , but a deceptive appearance in reality, the arrangement of leaves were like bearing fruits but when Jesus looked under the leaves , nothing was there. Hence the deceptive tree with no fruits , was cursed._ 🙏🙏

I was wondering the same thing. The part about it not being in season is an addition or assumption. It has to do with hypocrisy. Appearing holy, but having no fruit to prove holiness. It also might show his humanity by having physical hunger.

But hold on! How can that be? The Bible said, that Jesus was hungry, and he saw that the leaves of the tree was green, fresh, so he went expecting to pluck the fruit, only to see that it had no fruit. It only shows the deciet, it was a replica of what happened when he went for the triumphant ride on the donkey, the pple were rejoicing and welcoming, singing and bowing, throwing their clothes on the floor for his donkey to walk over, but the very next min, they were selling stuff in the church, using his father's house for biz, the fig tree represents the deciet of the pple, looking good as if they have fruits but nothing. He cursed the tree, just as any many who doesn't bear fruit is indeed dead.
@encryptor6710

Hes way off on the meaning of the cursed fig tree. Fig trees before the season would sprout little crop of small knobs, called taqsh by the Arabs. They could be eaten and they signified if the fig tree would bear fruit or not. In this case, they did not sprout before the season started. The fig tree represented Jerusalem and that they are no longer bearing fruit, so Jesus cursed it so that it would be cut down eventually. Which later happened to Jerusalem. It signified that Jerusalem was spiritually baren just like the tree. And trees that bear no fruit are cut down. It ties into him tearing up the market at the temple.

Another explanation of cursing the tree with no fruit is about people who refuse children by living in cohabition with no responsibility of giving birth to children, who resort to abortion or tubuctomy and willfully remain barron , a deceptive fruit tree, all these may incur the curse of God.
@danamalar
@danamalar 5 жыл бұрын
@@Dannyboy0202 It is based on the saying of St. Fulton Sheen - *The root principle of birth-control is unsound. It is a glorification of the means and a contempt of the end; it says that the pleasure which is a means to the procreation of children is good, but the children themselves are no good. In other words, to be logical, the philosophy of birth-control would commit us to a world in which trees were always blooming but never giving fruit, a world full of sign-posts that were leading nowhere. In this cosmos every tree would be a barren fig-tree and for that reason would have upon it the curse of God." --Archbishop Fulton Sheen*

"My house is a house of prayer but you have made it a den of thieves." After he turned the tables, he said that. He was not mad that the money changers made the temple a market place for thievery?
@CatholicProductions
@CatholicProductions 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Jackie. You bring up a good point but I suspect there may be more going on here. The den of thieves/robbers appears to be an allusion to Jeremeiah 7:11. So it could mean that they were cheating the people buying animals for sacrifice (though Mark 11 doesn't explicitly say that) or, like in Jeremiah 7, it could be a phrase indicating that their presence in the Temple courts was seen by Jesus as an "abomination", and his quoting Isaiah lets us know that the abomination is related to them preventing the Temple from being "a house of prayer for all nations."

@CatholicProductions
@CatholicProductions 5 жыл бұрын
@@augustsonseventy42 The point Dr. Pitre is making is that they are not giving the Gentiles access to the part of the Temple that was their place of prayer. This is why I alluded to Jeremiah 7:11 because the den of thieves phrase does not necessarily mean they were literally stealing, thought that is of course a possibility.

If the Fig tree does not bear fruit for the creator(Jesus Christ) then who will it bear fruit for? So the fruitless tree not serving is pourpose in life (season or no season) is living a baren and dammed existence even before it was cursed by Jesus Christ .... so Christians + non Christian's living fruitless and purposeless lives are like the walking dead and their fate is inevitable when Jesus comes. it's a warning sign for all humanity... I love Dr P. All my Christian life I always wanted to know why Jesus cursed the fig tree. I definitely get the correspondence between Genesis and The Gospel which brought me to tears and humble praise to God. However, so that I'm clear, especially when I teach about this, I anticipate questions I may be asked. For example, I understand it wasn't the season for the fruit to grow, and Dr. P did an excellent job of explaining that part; but whether the fruit was in season or not, why would Jesus, the new Adam, even reach to eat of it, like the first Adam did? Plus, the fact Jesus is God, he had to know it wasn't the right season any how, right?. Maybe this was addressed and I missed it. I will listen to it again and do some additional research. I also learned about the Book of Adam and Eve and that was cool. I love the Catholic church, they truly have so much insight into Jewish tradition, Biblical and extra Biblical sources; plus they have the bomb scholars, teachers, educators, and priests, who are knowledgeable about so many things; whether it's art, painting, archeology, astronomy, astrology, medicine, engineering, biology, sociology, physics, masonry, psychiatry, psychology, comparative religion, linguistics, or eschatology, etc. Catholics have so much to contribute to the world. I'm proud to be a part of Christ's Church. Please pray for the Holy Father, victims of sexual abuse and the hands of Catholic priests, nuns, laity, and across all organizations (boy scouts, cults, church denominations, schools, and even sexual harassment of employees in the work place, etc). Pray for the thousands of aborted children, their mothers, fathers, doctors, nurses, aids, our legislators, pro life & pro choice organizations, and the president & his administration; and all elected & appointed government officials at the county, local, state and federal levels; including all personnel, and the entire United States of America, as well as other nations. Pray for our elderly, seniors, disabled, poor, unemployed, underemployed, immigrants, border patrol agents, victims of domestic and family violence, terrorism, hate groups and those who advocate disunity. Pray for marriages as defined by The Most High, those confused about their gender and sexuality, children in foster care and orphanages, the sick, afflicted, homebound & shut in, and those in nursing homes/facilities, hospitals, hospice, rehab for physical & occupational therapy, rehab for various addictions, and those living in lack, victims of crime & human trafficking, drug trafficking, prostitution, the exploited, the bullied, maligned, the mentally ill and mentally unstable, our law enforcement agencies & agents/officers, & all military personnel. Pray for the lonely, depressed, and suicidal. Pray for the hungry and those who have no nutrious food or clean running water. In my city, there are parishes whereby one priest is assigned to two parishes. One priest from my old parish recently resigned and is no longer a priest. Instead, he is pursuing his marketing business. Dear Jesus help those discerning vocations, and give us more holy men and women of God who will faithfully serve you and your Church. LORD help all Christians to live holy and committed to Jesus Christ. Let us love one another and our neighbors; go out of our way to make visitors to our churches feel welcome. Personally, I've only experienced one Catholic church in my area that was very friendly, which is how I came to be Catholic. Other parishes are cold and as much as I hate to say it are rude, and prejudice. I even checked out a book from one a parish and when I read it, it had all kinds of disconcerting things about black people, referring to them as colored and negro. And told a story that if a wealthy white man is standing in a long confessional line and a negro is in front of him, the negro must allow the white man go before him, even if the white man is at the back of the line. I was shocked. I looked at the text and discovered it was donated to the parish from a Catholic. It was a text about the Catholic faith, catechism, etc. for 8th grade Catholic students. It was written in the 1950s, and edited in 2003. Wow! It explained so much about what the church was teaching these kids, more likely white kids, in a school and church located in a predominantly white and which jewish neighborhood. Also, this happens to me often: if I get to church early and get seated, once mass starts, I'm the only one sitting on the entire row, no one will sit on the same row with me. And whether someone is sitting on the same row or not, during the sign of peace, I will see everyone shaking hands, and when I go to do so, they turn their heads away, ignore me, or reluctantly half wave their hand. Recently that happened at a church I visited and the pastor saw it and came to me to shake my hand, which was nice. This happened so much at so many parishes, at different mass times, I eventually stopped going to church; and embraced another religion. Those who know what discrimination and hatred looks like, it makes it so much more sinister when it happens within the body of Christ. In 2016, I was reconciled and returned to the Catholic church. I learned it's not so much the organization but the people, and if everyone or enough people like that are there, they will create a culture that's discriminatory, mean, rude, and hateful. Now I just focus on being the change I would like to see in my little patch of the world. That's all I can do because if I let these people discourage and frustrate me, I'm giving them power over to folk who don't even care about me, and why would I or should I do that? I just realized that I've never prayed for these people or those churches. That's something I can do, should do, but don't really wanna do, but if I'm gonna be a true disciple of Christ, I have to and more than likely I need to, so I don't become cold like them. Plus, I developed an attitude of forget them as a way to cope with going to church and dealing with the ugliness; and I don't want to fall away again, and risk I ending up in a worse state and lose my soul. God forbid. Overall, I truly want to be like Christ and love even those who are difficult to love, especially if they don't love me...Jesus said it's easy to love those who love us and like us and treat us right. Boy isn't that so true! So I'm gonna give it my best and do my best. Lord help me be and do what you've called me to be and called me to do. I humbly pray. Amen

There is a very reasonable explanation why Jesus cursed the fig tree even though it wasn’t the season for figs. Even before the season, fig trees produce little knobs which are eaten by a passerby. As the late renowned NT scholar F.F. Bruce noted: "The other miracle is the cursing of the barren fig tree (Mk. xi 12 ff.), a stumbling block to many. They feel that it is unlike Jesus, and so someone must have misunderstood what actually happened, or turned a spoken parable into an acted miracle, or something like that. Some, on the other hand, welcome the story because it shows that Jesus was human enough to get unreasonably annoyed on occasion. It appears, however, that a closer acquaintance with fig trees would have prevented such misunderstandings. ‘The time of the fig is not yet,’ says Mark, for it was just before Passover, about six weeks before the fully-formed fig appears. The fact that Mark adds these words shows that he knew what he was talking about. When the fig leaves appear about the end of March, they are accompanied by a crop of small knobs, called taqsh by the Arabs, a sort of fore-runner of the real figs. These taqsh are eaten by peasants and others when hungry. They drop off before the real fig is formed. But if the leaves appear unaccompanied by taqsh, there will be no figs that year. So it was evident to our Lord, when He turned aside to see if there were any of these taqsh on the fig-tree to assuage His hunger for the time being, that the absence of the taqsh meant that there would be no figs when the time of figs came. For all its fair foliage, it was a fruitless and a hopeless tree." (Bruce, Are The New Testament Documents Reliable? [Intervarsity Press; Downers Grove, Ill, fifth revised edition 1992], pp. 73-74; bold emphasis ours) Another noted Evangelical scholar Craig S. Keener makes the following observation: "At Passover season in late March or early April, fig trees are often in leaf on the eastern side of the Mount of Olives. At this time of year, such fig trees contained only green early figs (Arabs call them taqsh), which ripen around June but often drop off before that time, leaving only green leaves on the tree. A leafy tree lacking such early figs, however, would bear no figs at all that year," (Keener, A Commentary on the Gospel of Matthew [Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Company, July 1999], p. 504) Thus, what was thought to be an example against the veracity of the NT ends up actually becoming a rather persuasive argument for its historical reliability! This exemplifies the minute accuracy of the Synoptic Gospels, both in time and place, i.e. this took place during the month of Passover, figs located on the eastern side of the Mount of Olives etc. It also provides evidence for an early dating of Matthew and Mark - or, at the very least, shows that they were dependent on very old and early material - well before the fall of Jerusalem. After all, the knowledge of these details would most likely have been lost or unknown to authors writing after the destruction of Jerusalem.

It would be great if u had mentioned Mark 11:15-17 " My house shall be called a House of prayer for All peoples? But you have made it a den of thieves" Since they were in the Court of the Gentiles and it had been used for the banking and animals instead of its purpose to let the Gentiles pray to God. This would have bolstered your teaching about Jesus' expansion of the Hebrew God to the Gentiles

Hey: that fig tree's also in Gospel of Jesus Christ according to St. Luke ch 13! Jesus tells the open-ended parable about the vineyard: a certain man plants a FIG TREE in HIS vineyard, and the vinedresser "protects" the fig tree when the master said "3 years no fruit!" (pp): the vinedresser says give it another year (probably half-year) and he'd dig around it and "dung it" (mulch?)s. And if it produces fruit, good, but if it doesn't, CHOP CHOP. That "three years" really sounds like the time of Christ's ministry. Another "half a time", the Jews would carry out their plots against The Seed (Singular). St. Luke didn't recount the cursing of the fig tree after Palm Sunday (probably because Matthew and Mark were out, and Jesus cursing the fig tree and _not in a parable_ was well known. Perhaps St. Luke (ahem, the God the Holy Ghost) wanted to add some depth at a later time. But then I wonder if we're not supposed to see that Jesus and the Apostles only Converts made it through the cursed fig tree. First Fruits/Pentecost/Church. And Judaism was over in 70AD with a bit of a curbstomp by Rome.

So from this video the conclusion about the fig tree, it is a symbol. Well I think it is not just a symbol , It is also about this tree being cursed for not being able to give anything to God no matter what the condition is. The tree should have given God some fruits even it was not harvest time. You may say impossible, but it's God the owner of the universe who did it. Even the storm, bread, fish anything including trees have to serve God. Now that is miracle. When we talk about Jesus. we talk about miracle. When Jesus acts, He act miraculously. Anything impossible according to our logic is possible to Jesus. So when you say you trust Jesus and have time to search Jesus in this life but still no miracle happens to your life, it has two possible answers : 1. Your prayer is on the way. 2. You have no faith.

I, however, think, Jesus rebukes marketers, bc our Temple (body) isn`t meant for market. Neither physically nor psychologically / spiritually. One shall not sacrifice anything to get God`s grace or anything at all. One shall not even trade anything in ordr to ask God for xyz. God isn`t a market and all is already given. Otherwise, Jesus had no point of coming.

A fig tree out of season, represented that present-day state of Judaism. It was not bearing fruit. Jesus cursed it. In the temple were the sellers of the Debts on Earth and the Debts in Heaven. Money changers and pigeon-sacrifice sellers. Vanity, followed by its chains of misery. He drove them all out. Returning, they then found this fig tree had withered to its roots. This was a story. A powerful message: Religion sucks big time. It is dead. But you doubled down and turned it into the One Final Sacrifice of The Holy Son to Save us All from Original Sin, and to just look in awe at the army of Eunuch Priests: The Pigeon and the Money Changers. Muhammad and Forced Submission is no different.

The true meaning of the parable is about the false Preachers or Prophets that Jesus met when he began to preach in Jerusalem, False preachers who taught the most learned of the people, changed the true teaching of Christ. Jesus is reasonable and will not look for fig fruits if it wasn't its season. The parable took place while Jesus was with his disciples, Jesus gave an example to His disciples of what to do with the False Preachers, those false preachers are barren that they don't bear fruit, it was a demonstration revealed in a parable through the fig tree. In the bible, a faithful Preacher is likened to a tree >> Psalm 1: 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. >> The parable shows that Jesus expects His disciples to be Friutful Preachers, whether if its within their season or not. That fruit are the souls that will be saved by teaching ONLY the pure doctrines of Christ.. no more, no less Proverbs 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that is wise stirreth up souls. Proverbs 3: 17-18 17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. 18 She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her. Mark 13: 28-31 Lesson of the Fig Tree 28 “Understand the lesson from the fig tree: When its branches have withered away, and the leaves have sprouted, you know that summer is near. 29 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, Christ is even at the door. 30 I assure you that this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. Here are the verses about the Preachers who are corrupt and do not really teach the doctrine of Christ like the priest speaking in this video: Jude 1: 10-13 10 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption; 11 Woe to them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core. 12 These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; clouds without water, carried along by winds; trees in the winter without fruit, twice dead, uprooted; 13 Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever. Matthew 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

Very good explanation, however in Isaiah 56 I don't see anything that says childless gentile priests. It speaks of eunuchs who can have a great place in God's house and it speaks of gentiles who can be servants & as priests with the Lord accepting their burnt offerings and sacrifices. Did he use misleading wording in efforts of supporting the Catholic way of male only priests who cannot marry?

The original sin is not sexual sin as most people believe. Animals are naked and have sex in the open but they are not ashamed. The major difference between man & animals is that man has the knowledge of good & evil whereas animals are driven by instincts. Once Adam & Eve ate of the forbidden fruit they got the knowledge of Good & evil & Free Will. By using Free Will Adam & Eve lost communion with God & there by Paradise. God sent Jesus to redeem & bring back the children of Adam back to Communion with God. God will not impose upon the children of Adam to believe in Jesus whereas the children of Adam have to use their Free Will and Accept Jesus as Lord & Saviour to get saved. Jesus said, " Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. God does not impose on mankind, He is waiting knocking on our door, we have to open the door of our heart & let Jesus in so that He can dwell in us. This is the only way mankind can be saved.

I will teach you the correct & historical meaning of the event. There were two political parties at this time. One party was called the 'Figtree' & the other was called the 'Vineyard'. The Figtree party wanted war with Rome, and the Vineyard party wanted peace. In addition to the missions of the Essenes & the ruling Herods, there was another mission in Rome. This was the Figtree. From 4BC, the dispute about the Herodian succession that had been fought out in Rome between the brothers Archaelaus and Antipas had led to a splitting of Herodian loyalties. Antipas must have established a different house, & the mission that continued from his house continued to be hostile to the ruling Herods. This mission which looked to the Therapeuts of Egypt rather than to Palestinian Essenes for its ascetic discipline was called the 'Figtree' because Therapeutes did not drink wine and were skilled in the medical arts. The Vineyard & the Figtree were associated but had separate organizations. As a parable in Luke says, 'A figtree was planted in a vineyard'. Simon Magus was a subsequent leader of the Zealot Figtree mission, closely associated with the tetrarch Antipas. On Monday, March 2d, 33AD Jesus went to the temple treasury (in Qumran) at the time for money collection. No fulfillment has occurred for those expecting a Restoration at SS3969 (1st position, Samaritan 31st). Jesus says it's because of the financial corruption & overturns the furniture for the banking system. The next day was March 3. When there was no fulfillment at the regular 31st, Jesus attacks the Herodian form of mission, including that of the tetrarch, the 'Figtree'. When he 'cursed the figtree', he was condemning their financial exploitations, zealot ambitions and their methods which were compromising the mission, & he expelled them.

You do know that there is no such thing as a place for gentiles in the temple. You do know that it says nowhere that a eunuch can not come into the temple. You do know that if you look at the context in Isaiah you will see that when it says "all people" it is clearly referring to the subject matter which is foreigners who are converts. There is no mention anywhere of any gentiles. As far as your theory about the fig tree, there is no indication anywhere that the fig tree is somehow an evil tree or something coming from a cursed past. The fig is actually one of the 7 special fruits of Israel enumerated in the bible. There is also no tradition in jewish thought that this tree was a fig tree. Not sure what this book you quote from is but it's amazing how christians will all of a sudden embrace jewish books when it seems to align with them. The story ends that the tree withered. Why would it need to wither and become destroyed if the only point was to say that jesus is fixing what Adam did? The bottom line is this story which appears in all the gospels is nonsense and makes no sense.
