I've posted this in response to a few comments on here, I figured I'd make my own top comment regarding the meaning of the trilogy. Near as I can tell, the trilogy is simply an artful take on the human life. Here's what I take away from it, I'm sure I'm missing many in depth details. Bloom as a show is simply about birth and the beginning of a life. Between the floor (looks like a drafting table where something might be designed or created), the name "Bloom," and the song "Bloom" by Adam Watt, the concept of creation undertones the entire show. The lyrics of the song "Bloom" play nicely into the theme: "I like to watch flowers die in reverse" is obviously referencing birth an allusion to the beauty of life, while underlining the fact that even at birth, we are all in fact dying. This is subtly underscored by the fact that the musical selection includes "Song for the Dead" by Queens of the Stone Age (1:53 to 2:40). As a musical aside, did you catch the passage at 1:39? Cage is the more difficult one for me, but I view it as a description of the struggles of life. The melodies and lyrics from "Where Are You Now" and "From Here You're On Your Own" by Adam Watt make repeated appearances in this show, both songs referencing loss and struggle. Add in the visual aspect of these large, seemingly immovable props, and a labored crawl across the floor, each performer carrying their own light. Maybe a stretch, but their lights may be a metaphor for hope, or an idea, or positivity, something that we struggle to hold onto as we crawl through our existence. Spine is the closing chapter, the setting sun of the trilogy. To me, it points out the fragility of human life, and the impermanence of all which we create. From the beginning of the show, it seems as though we're looking back, almost flashing back to the journey, starting with "born under bright lights..." and the rest of the lyrics from Adam Watt's "Running Out of Heroes." As we get older, we are in fact running out of heroes, as our idols age and pass on (grandparents, parents, other role models). We ourselves then become the hero for others, as we begin to hear about "The Hero and The Pain" (referencing, but not quoting the Adam Watts song by the same name). We begin to hear about death, we hear labored breathing. "Lights out, I'm alone..." As we near the end, we hear a dirge, sounding like a funeral march. We rehash our past, our birth. Check out the passage at 19:04 and 19:13. Sound familiar? In the end, the spine is a long cable that runs up the center of our bodies, carrying signals to and from our limbs, with which we create. In our final moments, we see all of our creation, performers singing phrases that we've heard in all three shows. And then, unceremoniously, we die. Again, that's my take on it. I could be WAY off. Even if I'm wrong, these are my favorite WGI performances of all time. They are the first to make me feel, the first to transcend simply being drums in a gym. Let me know what you think!

1. The mics are live at the end of Spine. Are they live during the whole show for the breathing? 2. Were the props for Cage changed for WGI after they fell at SCPA? 3. Any insight on the the 5th place Vis score for Spine? 4. Can you post the Jeff Prosperie tape for Spine overlayed with the show in HD? 5. Two set players for Cage... by design? 6. Roger Carter posted an OCI snare audition vid which is the Cage snare feature. The feature got changed a bit. Hosed? 7. The dance aspects for top bass in Spine and Cage... always intended or we have a member with this skill set, lets take advantage? 8. Don't you all think it's crazy that the centers for RCC and BCP marched together at Mission Viejo?

1. Yes, they were live for the whole show and we cut the cords every show since the outro was added 2. No 3. Different judges have different opinions on design 4. Not sure tbh, don't even know if we still have the tape 5. By chance 6. Not watered if that's what you mean 7. A bit of both. It adds more layers to the show and there was no problem showcasing her talents 8. Pretty crazy that most people from Mission Viejo ended up marching for great groups!

Thanks for the reply. 9. I kept wanting more show from BCP as the season unfolded. The show ended with the snare feature for several competitions in a row. Then the last movement for one show. Then the outro for SCPA Prelims. I think that's about right. Obviously, you only want to perform what is "show ready" and changes are made constantly, but was there any consideration to hold back the spine-cutting until the very end of the season for shock value? Still gives me chills.

Yes it was 2 set players by design. The 2nd set player said he was coming prior to auditions and asked on his history and the chemistry he already had with the other set player/ guitar player he brought a huge bonus to the group. Also an amazing guy

Yeah, Dylan is just an insane play and Tiger is like the OCI/BCP legend drum set player so since they both grew up with each other they decided to go with two players and it for sure brought a whole new thing to the show. For the 1st time getting some real attention to the overlooked spot in DCI/WGI of set... As for the dance solos... Deanna is just an awesome dancer and it is "Winter Guard International" a lot of dance specific stuff these days..

14:50 anyone know what it is the snares are switching on? I know bluecoats used something similar in '15 but does it actually change something in the snare sound or is the click just supposed to sound cool ?

It opens vents in the rim below the batter head which allows a lot of the initial air from the hit to escape immediately, allowing for a timbre change.

gbenderk yo thanks! Yeah that makes sense! I love all over these shows especially Cage lol also as an aside I know some people are confused on how it's a trilogy simply based on the fact that the first part wasn't as Broken City technically lol so like I've heard people say "I can't wait for the third part of the trilogy" and I'm just like oops lol
