You need to add a front handle sliding tube so that you can push it forward to load a dart and pull it back to seal the tube. That way your left hand never leave the weapon and it always in the same position for every shot. And YES, I want one!

Or you could attach some pre-tensioned rubber to the sliding tube so you just need to push the sliding tube forward and then let it go. This way you could keep your hand in the forward position to aim.

After i saw your first blowgun video 3 weeks ago i went to a local store in Berlin and bought a cheap 10€ blowgun (1m long / 1 cm diameter), including 12 darts. I was really surprised how good this works. I can achieve a maximum distance of slightly below 5 meters in my room (measured from the exit of the blowgun) and when i shoot them all, usually i am hitting most of them within a circle of about 10 cm what is closer than it sounds considering that the cones alone have a diameter of one cm. Also the power is impressive, even a strong can is nothing. When i am hitting a plywood plate it sticks around 1cm deep and i have to use pliers to get them out. Its also nice for small spaces because unlike with an airgun the darts don't bounce off on surfaces like stronger wood, where a bb or diablo does bounce off.

Yeah blowguns are a ton of fun! However my understanding of having fun with blowguns involves popping baloons at 40+ yards in my garden shooting a ballistic trajectory, but they can equally be a ton of fun with a very small target in an 8 yard room.

Two things I would recommend: 1. If you have trouble with your air volume you can reduce the diameter of the darts plastic endpiece thing. So you can reduce the inner diameter of your blowgun tube. This would reduce the volume you need to blow the dart out of the tube and it would gain more speed. 2. The loading mechanism should work like on a pump gun. First pull back and than push forward to load the dart. This would allow your left hand to stay on the same point without doing the extra movement to the front of the tube after reloading. Combined with a front grip should give excellent stability. (Or stay to your mechanism and simply extend the loading tube so your hand is at the front of the blowgun after reload) I really excited to see how the journey will go on :D Better tube, sealing , your own darts, front grip, maybe a stock, aiming device, and and and....thank you Jörg for your work :)

I notice that you sometimes put your hand further down the barrel prior to shooting. Maybe you can extend the slide somehow to allow you to keep your hand further down the barrel for better control.

First of all I would definitely buy it. And once again you revolutionize a very traditional weapon. You should try to figure out a way for the hand to end up near the holding position. Off the top of my head, You could put bands on the pump tube. Or move the magazine farther forward and have the rear of the dart drop in first (if that's possible).

Just watched this over on airgun 101 and came here to add a comment/suggestion. Left hand fixed fore grip with right hand grip attached to loading mechanism. I think this would give a more natural feel and should make quick reloading/firing

With a blow forward action where the entire barrel moves back and forth you would completely eliminate the front air seal. The piece that now moves would have to be fixed in place, and would not need to be seamless.

I'm not sure, but listening to your blowing technique, I think you are making it much harder on yourself than it needs to be. I grew up with blowpipes and there is a specific technique to getting a projectile firing hard and accurate. You DON'T just blow and empty your lungs into it. You'll only get a weak projection. What you need to do it take a very deep breath, put your tongue over the hole and you start to exhale rapidly, but before you can fill your cheeks up with air, you quickly release your tongue. That way you get the maximum amount of air hitting your projectile. It will go further, hit harder and be more accurate. It takes a little practice, but once you 'get it' you will notice the dramatic difference.

Increasing the fire rate seems like it would increase the likelihood of 'backfiring' between shots, maybe adding a valve would increase the safety and therefore comfort of firing the blowpipe, and make it a more fluid experience rather than assuring your safety through a sequence of actions. Also I'm not sure if anyone has pointed out if you did this in rapid succession it would look like you're the kind of guy plywood and steel would pay an extra 20 euros for, have you considered lever action?

A little over sixty years ago, I found a broken car aerial in my dad's garage. And made a - small - blowpipe out of one of the sections. It worked, but it was only about 30cm, so not much range. One functional thing i noticed is that you have to move your hand after cocking to farther down the barrel. If you could make the action go in REVERSE (ie. back then forward like a bolt action rifle) with a handle down at the firing position, I think that would be a better functioning weapon.

Hey Joerg, give it a vertical/angled grip on the slide, at least optionally maybe? You could even have the "use position" have the magazine sideways to the left and to reload it you would turn the blowgun sideways (the "pistol grip" currently in the horizontal position would then be vertical during the reload). This way you could have a red dot or iron sights (I suppose on a picatinny rail) and if you decide to give it any sights at all by default, I would make it possible to adjust it since not all faces are the same. If you gave it a stock you would have evolved it into a firearm looking thing (maybe that defeats the purpose of the blowgun aspect of it?)

Könnte man nicht bei der äußeren Tube (Stahlrohr) eine Feder einbauen, dass der "Verschluss" immer nach hinten gedrückt wird? Und einen Frontgriff für stabileres und bequemeres zielen in Kombination mit einer 45° angewinkelten picatinny Schiene die man durch 180 grad drehen für rechts- oder Linkshänder kompatibel montieren kann? Das mit dem Winkel sollte einfach mit einer montierten Schiene wo der laser sitzt und einem picatinny winkel den man darauf montiert möglich sein. Würde da jedoch auf Kunststoff setzen wegen Gewichtseinsparung ...

Sehr coole Idee. Aber wäre es nicht besser das Magazin seitlich oder auf der Unterseite zu positionieren (Pfeilzuführung dann per Federdruck), damit man besser zielen kann? Das Magazin oben blockiert sicherlich die Sicht. Also ich würde gerne eins erwerben.
