When will an Indian win a Grandslam Man ?
@hiwayman98111 күн бұрын
Jim "Rock" Courier - I think that was one of his nick-names back in his day on the tour, and one which personified his style of tennis and work ethic.

Jim always was and still is an inspiration. Truely adore this man!

He is now the very best tennis commentator in tennis.

My favourite commentator by a good margin

Jim courier is not a blue collar player, although I can see what you mean in the sense he had no flair to his game. He is very sharp, and very particular about his tennis gear. Amazing commentator too

I remember seeing his grip, physical approach and grinding playing style thinking it was extreme, yet the last 15-20 years it has become normal. Really in many ways a player ahead of his time.

Courier was an awesome player, but pretty much was burned out after 1993, when he was just 23 years old. He never recovered from his high, the years before that.
@davebudge452614 күн бұрын
Nick Bolleterri actually trained him for free Jim was a child prodigy athlete, also a brilliant baseball pitcher throwing a 83 mile fastball at just 13, along with Agassi he was the star of Nick's tennis bootcamp a kind of scholarship student and whilist we talking his Dad was an executive in an organe juice company so the whole rags to riches isn't entirety accurate.

I don't think that many top pros came from wealthy families. Heck, Novak grew up poor in a war zone.
@hangarby1015 күн бұрын
Blue collar?! But his family had the resources to send him to Bolleteri’s camp….this video is a nothingburger.

I hear you, While Jim Courier's family may have had the means to support his tennis career, the "blue-collar" reference in the title was more about his playing style and relentless work ethic, rather than his financial background. Also he was known for his gritty, no-nonsense approach to the game, which tailors well with as "blue-collar" attitude. I hope that clarifies the perspective we took in this video!

@ thanks and sorry for my comments. It’s just when I think of “tennis blue collar”, it’s another, even more famous, ‘JC’ that comes to mind.

I'm not 100% certain but I thought Courier's dad was an executive for a citrus company that produced orange juice type products.
@IconsRewind-015 күн бұрын
You’re absolutely correct! Jim Courier’s dad worked as an executive in the citrus industry, which helped provide him with opportunities like training at Bollettieri’s camp. The "blue-collar" reference in the title was more about his tenacious playing style and work ethic than his financial background. Thanks for bringing this up-details like these make the discussion richer!
@paulc780415 күн бұрын
@@IconsRewind-0 I thought that was the case. I remember seeing an early interview how Courier differentiated himself from Agassi. This was early 90s French Open coverage. I agree. His work ethic was over the top during the prime of his career--it was comparable to Lendl. The tenacious part of his game was very Jimmy Connors "Never Say Die" like mentality. I wonder if all that training led to burn out early on. The rise of Sampras at the time probably didn't help much either.
@DrPravZ15 күн бұрын
Blue collar!? Is that sarcasm 😂
@uncletony621016 күн бұрын
You act like Jim was born into poverty. In fact, he once belittled Agassi for being "a waiter's son from a tract house." That's some elitist's shlt there.

Blue collar...how? 😂 he was not and is no such thing.
@IconsRewind-015 күн бұрын
I get where you’re coming from! The "blue-collar" term in the title wasn’t meant to describe Jim Courier's upbringing but rather his work ethic and playing style on the court.
@Maruman_man15 күн бұрын
@IconsRewind-0 that I totally agree. He was relentless. Yes his style was about endurance. Why he did so well on clay

@@IconsRewind-0 “Raised in a modest household, Jim’s family didn’t have the luxuries that many of his tennis peers enjoyed…” That’s not a reference to a work ethic
