In 1985 I worked at Exhibition Stadium as a teenager. When the Jays went to the playoffs, they gave us a letter excusing us from school during afternoon home games. No joke.

My father is interviewed in this video! I was so surprised to see him as a young fan. He is very much still a fan and says he remembers that day. I was wondering if there would be any chance of viewing the extended video of "everybody loves a winner"? I think it would be so interesting to get a glimpse into his past. Thanks!

Man! The kid at the 45 sec. mark was bang on the money - He literally said they're going to be a good team - Just give them time. Guy was a prophet - The Jays despite their humble start very quickly by around the 1983 mark (6th year since expansion) became one of baseball's powerhouses for the next 10 years with 5 divisional titles and 2 World Championships...easily could have been 3 World Championships provided they go on and beat the Cards in 85 but they choked to the Royals

The beginning for the Toronto Blue Jays in 1977 had great road and home uniforms without the last names in the back of the jerseys, but starting at Exhibition Stadium was garbage.

There is a documentary on the start up of the Blue jays I'd love to see! “What If? The Unlikely Story of Toronto’s Baseball Giants” I can't find it anywhere... any thoughts?

Nice video, but what about some scenes from the World Series of 1992 and 1993.

The 85 season was majic the 85 ALCS...not so much ..i still can't watch that series ....though i think losing the 87 pennant race to the Tigers was even more painful ...the 90's was big time pay back especially for fans that had been there through 85 , 87 and 89

Losing (choking) in 85 was waaay worse than the 87 loss to the Tigers. The reason why is because they were better than the Royals and had a stranglehold on them 3 games to 1 with game 7 on home turf - Should have had it and I have no doubt they would have done what the Royals did and win the World Series. The Tigers got beat in 87 by a more powerful Western Division team (Twins). The Jays odds would not have been as good in 87 if they had moved on.

@@kayakerdude3727 ...i agree about the difference of talent between the 85 Jays and Royals....without George Brett the Jays might have swept that series imo ..not mention the Royals got a lot clutch hitting by their other non star players in that series and Jays went cold after game three ..but yeah that 87 Twins was maybe one the more under rated (AL) World Series winning teams of the 80s i would put them just behind the 84 Tigers and the 89 A's imo

The Toronto Blue Jays should've been in the 1985 World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals! After all they had the best record in the AL in 1985!

Jim Smith, Somebody forgot to tell George Brett, Bret Saberhagen and the rest of The Kansas City Royals that they were supposed to lay down and play dead eh? 😏

They traded Dave Collins for a useless Bill Caudill. I know they were going for youth, but I'd argue Dave Collins would've been the sparkplug that would've taken them to the World Series

Just so happens that '85 was also the 1st season of the expanded LCS format, from a best-of-5 series to best-of-7. Had the previous format remained for '85 the Blue Jays would have beaten the Royals. Oh well.

@@dondavis7687 The Royals didn't quit - But let's be honest...The Jays totally did a choke job for KC.
