I didn't really feel like going to the Blue Lagoon anyway when I was there. I drove right by on Route 43 in order to get to Grindavik and didn't even care. I just wanted to go hike up to the volcano the next day.

Your question isn't just hypothetical for me. I have a scheduled reservation that I paid for before the eruption. Unless things significantly change before my date, I'm not going to go. Thanks again for your videos!

I’ve been to Iceland 7 times and never been to the blue lagoon. (Apart from when I was driving by and needed the toilet). There are plenty of other natural hot springs to bathe in without going there.

Haven't been yet, still not planning on going. Coming back in Juli og September for trips #3 and #4. Would rather go to another less crowded lagoon with or without an ongoing eruption. I'd rather have a great trip.

It's totally irresponsible to re-open the lagoon at this time. I guess it's all about the money...

I imagine that there are other places to experience the geothermal pools in Iceland. Probably more beautiful places. I’d check those out rather than test my luck with the risky air quality at BL.

I agree! That is why I changed my lagoon a long time ago

Google maps shows the eruption is less than 3 km from Blue Lagoon. Gasses can take a non-direct route by hills in the neighborhood. Last July I stood 40 meters from the erupting Litli Hrutur crater and at some point I sensed gasses were giving me a sore throath, that's when I left to safer grounds. I understand Blue Lagoon wants business but why open the hotel as people asleep are way harder to evacuate quickly ? I think Blue Lagoon and Iceland as country will have a huge (legal) problem when the first tourist staying at Blue Lagoon dies or gets seriously injured

Or undressed people in a big pool. When I was driving over the lava road before it closed the last time I felt stinging throat and eyes. That time there wasn't even an ongoing eruption.

Plenty of other places to see in Iceland. We only did 2 weeks and my kids are asking to go back because we missed so much. We skipped the Blue Lagoon all together because we didn't want crowds and it seemed to be the most expensive. Myvatn Nature Baths was quite lovely even if it is smaller than the Blue Lagoon and our kids got in free. We also enjoyed Laugarvatn and it seemed more kid friendly as well though a bit more expensive to visit. We did comment that we felt the Icelandic idea of danger was very different from the American idea of danger but this just seems irresponsible. Walk with me Tim showed just how close the Blue Lagoon is to disaster and they have gotten lucky so far.

Nope! I won a pair of tickets in February and I'd rather risk not being able to use them. They're valid for 3 years anyway.

I've been to the Blue Lagoon recently, and I wouldn't have too much faith that the staff would be vigilant enough to know what to do if deadly gas decends to the area. We had a great time, but the lane of Blue Lagoon is not emergency readiness.
@TimeWarpIceland7 ай бұрын
Be fair. it's a little tricky to get people out quickly but still charge for the drinks 😅

the last eruption happened with zero warning. Everyone at the fancy resort had to evacuate immediately. Lava and ash were filling the sky. The people who ran from the volcano "had fun".

Supposed to go there straight from the airport when we land in the morning on the 19th.... Have been nervously watching the closings and openings for the last two months and am currently double-booked there and at the Sky Lagoon (which we are also going to 11 days later) and debating which to cancel and which to risk going to. We'd really like to see the Blue Lagoon but a little nervous about it closing again at the last minute.... and.... you know... the whole dying thing. Maybe I'll bring my scuba gear..
@TimeWarpIceland7 ай бұрын
It's tricky. This would be a memory of a lifetime. Just a question of how long they lifetime is going to be? I don't want to be alarmist. It's probably fine. There have been people there the whole time. Essential workers. "only" one has gotten gas poisoning. But letting in thousands of people throughout the day all day is a little different.

The Blue Lagoon was an unplanned stop on our trip last yr. Fresh off the plane it was well worth it. But it is not worth the chance of turning into rugbraud imho. Hopefully things settle there soon and it, the geothermal plant and Grindavik are spared more hardship. But please wander out of your lane and keep your funny content coming.

How many hours of exposure would be dangerous? I have a booking in a couple of weeks 😣
@TimeWarpIceland7 ай бұрын
It's not really about hours. The gases are probably not there. But in the exact right condition they can rise to the atmosphere and then decend down once they cool. Again, I'm not really qualified to explain this. I am just relaying my understanding. And relaying news of what happened to the one employee. When that happened the eruption was much bigger and the conditions just right. This is just my opinion on opening the blue lagoon during an active eruption. Is it "wise" to let thousands of people visit that place for hours at a time during a near by eruption?
@susannap.88347 ай бұрын
For how long can you hold your breath? Gas meter alarm means that the gas is already there in a too high concentration. How far away can you go while holding your breath?

No, thanks, I'll pass on Blue Lagoon....but I did on my trip to Iceland last year. As you point out in some of your videos, there are numerous other options in Iceland that are less crowded and expensive. If one wants an upscale alternative, the Sky Lagoon gets good reviews from friends of mine. Blue Lagoon aside, I'd keep my distance and watch developments on the news and KNN (Karl News Network).
