I’m old school, and want analog knobs, and the feel of tubes. But, I need it to sound as good as the Neural. So, if I want the sound of an SLO 100 it’s got to be spot on, or I own’t play it. yeah BUT, considering they have a built in wah, boost, compressor and a series of fantastic analog effects; what you would want is to INSERT, your real effects unit, be it pedal or a rack AFTER the wah, boost/compressor before the rest of the chain... this way it is authentic AS IF you had a real wah and effects going into the front of the amp. Whereas, right now IF you plugin effects into the INPUT, it is before the wah and the rest of the chain and if any additional noise is generated from your real gear, it will keep their massively great gate open - which makes the performance not as good. @@SeanPierceJohnson

I tried every cab, frfr, powered speaker and couldn't find a happy place.

Because its replicating a amp and cab being miced in a studio not exact reproduction of the exact amps in the room. Helix 3.5 firmware update redid every preset and stock cabs its like a whole new processor. I've been back and forth and still kept the Helix, would love to crank a triple Rectifier full stack at 120 tube watts full blast at 2 am when I usually record to get that real tube amp feel as the paint starts peeling from the walls and cops are beating at your door, just not practical in most situations and you can't tell the difference in a full mix.

@SeanPierceJohnson Жыл бұрын
The USB functionality was being worked on when Thomas and I shot the video so we didn’t showcase it. It seems like you could potentially be able to upload amp “models” to the AMPX, but not in the sense of how a Helix or Kemper would model since the amp circuit is analog. You may be able to store backups of your presets to a USB stick, update firmware…amongst other things.
@torchlord1111 ай бұрын
@@SeanPierceJohnson With the H&K Coreblade uploading the presets to the USB stick was how they did it. I don't think that is something I ever bothered doing with mine. My concern with this unit, while it seems to offer a ton and will continue to grow with its FW updates, etc. is that it looks plastic-y and not a road-worthy piece of equipment. Maybe great for studio and home, but touring?? Also, as a current Fractal owner, I'm concerned with products that say "future-proof", because as what happened to my Fractal, once the new hardware product came out, they stopped updating my unit and now I'm stuck with an outdated product that can never be updated again. *sigh* I'd be open to hearing thoughts on this. I am looking for something compact that can serve me well without lugging too much stuff around and seriously contemplating a Synergy system to maintain real amps in a singular rack space, but not sure what is my best direction at this time. Also been using the Tech21 Fly Rigs into my Matrix power amp with some success. Open to suggestions.
@stevethebeeline44 Жыл бұрын
Like Amp1 it’s made of metal and designed to be stomped on. As for future proofing Thomas Blug said in this vid that he views this hardware unit as being around for a long time with firmware updates via usb. Similar to Kemper, same hardware for many years. I think AmpX will be around and supported in it’s current format for a long time. Bluguitar is a small company and constantly having a new model (Fractal!) to out date the previous model doesn’t make sense for a smaller company.

Great concept and technology though the floor amps combos usually always have a fatal flaw for live performance set up missing the mark when it comes to having to kneel to adjust something that can easily be achieved with a traditional amp head sitting on top of a cab. Display it's a be small, sure you can read it perfectly if you use it a table top.. but on a stage very likely visibility gets lost. And if it is an all in one solution, it should definitely have a expression pedal. Either way, best of luck with the final product and success of it. 26:40 i hope this will became the best machine with now a year of late (y)
After nearly 40 years of playing through most everything I believe I have finally settled on a setup which is focused on being modular into a super clean high headroom SOLID STATE amp which can either use real speaker cabinets or a flat response speaker with cabinet emulation. I've become convinced that well designed FET based analog preamps (such as the stuff produced by Tech 21) can actually perform far better and much more reliably with far less fuss than tube circuits (and digital emulations as well btw). I never thought I would say such awful things just a few years ago lol. What is presented here is basically the same concepts in a fixed package that is impressive yet lacks the flexibility of a modular setup where individual components (gain pedals, preamps, amps, speaker cabs/emulators, ect.) can be swapped out as technology improves. If you want a "one and done" solution then something like this is a good way to go.

In my opinion it should be taller so It could have an extra 5 footswitches for effects. What I mean is that the strong part of this device is the small weight in a compact unit where you could have it all. If you need an extra pedalboard to control the effects uhmmmmm then is not so complete and competitive . This way for me is better to go with a Mercury and an analog effects pedalboard. You could also go with a Kemper or Axe with a power amp,.... the fact that it don't have footswiches for the effects could be a handicap in my opinion ....

my understanding is that the footswitches can be programmed however the user desires. all of this is still a prototype.

Here's the problem .. if it is so amazing, why can't Thomas get a good player or at least a known professional to demo it ??
@SeanPierceJohnson2 жыл бұрын
I’m sure MANY players (of all skill levels) will get the chance to play it once the final production models are ready. But as of right now, this is one of TWO working prototypes.

That's a big part of the attraction of the ISP Theta products foe me. Ethan Brosh, Adam McClean and Michael Sweet all make them sound great.

The BluGuitar Amp1 was a bad experience for me. The first model was returned to the London shop after it gave me several electric shocks (yes - in the 21st century). The replacement unit started suffering an intermittent reverb fault - sometimes plenty, sometimes almost none - then the lights behind the footswitches started playing up, then footswitches themselves did likewise, then this unit also gave me electric shocks. Needless to say, all the faults occurred when the unit was out of warranty. I found the construction flimsy, too. I finally took it to the recycling centre two weeks ago and won't buy anything from this manufacturer again.

The opening sounds accurately reflected a broken amplifier.

Thomas Blug is an excellent pedal builder and therefore the pre which really consists of OD pedals is excellent. On the other hand the amp section with the gimmicky nano tube sucks, I had the first model Amp 1 for two years and hated it. I went back to a 50 watt Plexi and it was night and day better.

I couldn’t disagree more. I’ve been using the Amp1 Silver and now Mercury for 4 years and it’s awesome! For live playing, at gigging volume, the power amp sings and sounds (and feels) sublime

I’ve had the amp 1 editions. Settled on the iridium. I couldn’t disagree more. The iridium has replaced my Marshall jvm,jubilee and OD pedals. Either you had faulty units or you wasn’t using it correctly.

@@loughorboy3332 I agree with you, I just recently started using Vintage on ME and it sounds amazing in 2 guitar band mix. I really don't understand what's gimmicky about nano tube. Then again it was the first version, he might not have played ME or Iridium. You can go JMP/Plexi you can go JCM800 with a switch press, no problem.

i wouldn't call it a gimmick. it's not like a "tube" distortion pedal that barely feeds correct voltage to the tube.

even though it has analog components to replicate numerous amplifiers, gain pedals & modulation pedals? even though it'll have stereo digital effects like reverb and delay? even though it has a built in 100 watt power amp? even though it'll have stereo cabinet simulation for direct recording or sending to Front of House on gigs? even though Thomas plans to support it for years to come with updates and new sounds?
@kuzWich2 жыл бұрын
I reckon, there's absolutely no need to justify. Thomas's fans and think-alikes get the price policy and would be happy to own one anyways. It's a smaller "think different" community I guess. The Apple of late 00s, the Pioneer plasma vs lcd of that same period... the novelty classic one knows exactly why he wants it

The recording wasn’t on point here but having owned the iridium for a while now I am confident this will be amazing in person.

not every sound works with my set up, but most of them do. I feel the more "modern" sounds are a bit too gated, which is a bit of a bummer
