What people have overlooked is the fact that Waltz left the mine one morning, and went to the Board House (a ranch) and purchased bacon and baking flour AND returned to the mine in the same afternoon before sunset. This tells a story about distance and what is logically possible in a day.

The board house is on a logical route, topographically speaking, to get to the Iron Mountain area from Apache Junction. Bob Ward's cabin is on that route as well, not that it existed when the Dutchman was alive, I'm just mentioning it as a reference. But man, it is a LONG walk, at least 25 miles, from Apache Trail and Idaho Rd. to the ridge west of Iron Mountain. The last of it is steep climbing.

I grew up in the Phoenix area reading books about the Lost Dutchman and now I live near the foothills of these beautiful, majestic mountains, Every day I am in awe when I open the shades in the mourning to see the sun rising over the Superstition Mountains. very interesting. After listening to Clay Worst video form several years ago at the museum. My thought was. The search has to start on that side of the Mountain, and the board house was the starting point. And the Dutchman had said he went from the Mine to the board house for food and back to the mine in 1 day.. So the mine would have to be within a half a days travel through what I assume was very slow going through those mountain paths or lack of paths to a secret mine. I did not realize that the quarter Circle U ranch and the board house were not the same place. But it is pretty close and still probably a great place to start. The Dutchman also was to have said that the manner that he filled it in and covered it, that you could drive a patch train across it and never know it was there. So no one will ever find that. If Jacob Walsh was alive today. my guess is he would have trouble finding it . Anyway. Love the video.
@deadpresident783 жыл бұрын
1 day travel then is not the same for us today when thinking about it.. It could have been 10 15 miles with a horse.
@Mike-012343 жыл бұрын
Most likely if the mine is real then it's lot closer then many think yet according to the story which Brownie Homes says his father told him that the Dutchman back filled the mine in so there was no way to even discover it. My thoughts are if the mine was like the other Spanish mines where there is a pit then some kind of entrance I would think they used hand tools to dig it not dynamite it would be easy to fill in the entrance. The only way to find the gold mine would be to try and rediscover the gold in the area same way it was found by the spanish. It's almost impossible now that the land is off limits to any kind of mining. I also wonder if it was found what could you do with it have to be made into some kind of historic site park service would need to cut a path to get there then guarded to keep people from stealing it. If it's ever really found it would be lot of trouble managing it better off never being found.

I think that Walsh being shrewd, befriended Indians who had the gold ore and made up the story about the mine, to keep people from going after his Indian friends. He made a deal with those Indians thru trading or whatever means & because he "kept his word" by not revealing where he obtained the gold, he continued in their good favor, and in making trips with his "prize". Their lack of knowledge regarding extracting gold from ore, could have made this possible.🤔‼️

Matt Rowe The board house was built long before the U ranch ever existed. The U ranch purchased the land and large grazing rights in 1907. Today the latest owner of the U ranch only own 57 acres still 3/4 of a mile from the spot where the board house was located. I am not sure if the U ranch has grazing rights or if it’s under a land trust that now exist in that area. But from 1907 the board house was on land controlled by the U ranch and the road to the U ranch goes right by the old location of the board house to this day.

What people don't realize in this hunt for the lost Dutchman mine, there are very smart miners, that would have simply followed the geology to the mine. It's pretty simple.

@nhragold19222 жыл бұрын
@@larryhedrick254 well that's what I mean. With the general area it's simple to follow the geology. The entire mountain range is mapped and documented in the usgs reports. It's basic stuff in mining. Even back in the day those guys were incredibly smart. If you sample some of the stuff they left, you see why they left it. I can almost guarantee people have worked it.
@larryhedrick2542 жыл бұрын
NHRA gold: In1891 after Waltz died and that’s when we were talking about, the only landmarks named was Weavers Needle and Superstition Mountain proper. No other of the hundreds of mountains or canyons had a name. The maps you mentioned and geology was non existent. Waltz could not tell anyone to take East boulder canyon to Blacktop Mesa down La Barge and so on. The Board House was a critical starting point, as one of the clues, if true, was you could go to the mine and back to the board house in one day. It also was stated, true or not, that no miner will find my mine. Evidently the mine was located where geology was of no value even if one was trained in geology. The story was not about today and the advantages of modern times.
@nhragold19222 жыл бұрын
@@larryhedrick254 I'm not arguing that. I'm arguing that the myth that has killed dozens is exactly that, a myth about being "lost" . It was said to be a solid 3 foot gold plug, in basically a xenolith. It was said to be mined out to a great distance. It's also said that the reason people have died looking for it because the people who were working it didn't want anyone knowing. That's basically the "rumors " of the mining community between here ( California) and Arizona.
@larryhedrick2542 жыл бұрын
NHRA gold I don’t know what of my videos you have seen but I have been exposing many of the myths about the Dutchman and the mine. The newspaper man, Bicknell, created the myth that Waltz went to Mexico to “escape military service.” Sims Ely expounded upon that 6o some years later to make Waltz a Confederate veteran who saved Paralta in s bar fight and was given a map by Paralta and Waltz’s mythical partner Wisner. All this was BS created by two newspaper men to sell stories and books. In the 55 years I have been knowledgeable about the story, I have never heard about a solid 3 foot gold plug, it was always a 18 inch vein that would make millionaires out of 20 men. I have Bark’s notes, the Holmes manuscript and Cavaness’ diary among others. What these things don’t say is as important as what the do say and how the clues have been butchered and maps altered or created is amazing.”
