I would’ve loved to see a video about the famous Jack’s in history, for obvious reasons. Like “Bob,” most people called “Jack” aren’t Jack on the their birth certificate. Usually “Jo(h)nathan” but instead of John, some go by Jack. Not me, though. The name on my birth certificate is Jack. People apparently think this is so uncommon I’ve received three separate first paychecks at jobs made out to Jo(h)nathan. I couldn’t cash them, because that’s not me. Maybe I’m biased (lol) but I feel like I would like the name Jack even if it wasn’t my own. I feel like a special snowflake, in a world of John’s and occasionally James’ masquerading as Jacks? I’m the real deal.

Hey everybody, quick story about Bob Cousy in Blue Chips. I got work as a production assistant for an upcoming documentary on the NBA 75th season. We had to interview Bob Cousy, currently in his 90s. He told a ton of stories but he talked about the free throws in blue chips while we were setting up. According to Bob, he hit 21 in a row between all of the takes. Now i can't confirm it for a fact, but he was very self deferential and humble, not one to brag. So personally I believe him.

I’d argue Pedro Martinez’s 2000 was an even bigger statistical outlier. He had an ERA of 1.74 pitching in the AL East during the height of the steroid era. His ERA+ that year was 291, on a scale where 100 is average. Meaning, Pedro was almost 3 times better that season than the average pitcher. For reference, the only pitcher to ever record a higher ERA+ was Tim Keefe way back in his rookie year of 1880 when baseball was a completely different game.

Pedro Martinez 1999 to 2000. That has legitimate argument for being the greatest along with Gibson. Gibson had an excellent season, but he didn't beat the next best pitcher in his League by two runs.

Everything by Jon Bois is the greatest. He looks at an unbelievably large amount of numbers, and still manages to tell a personal story about individuals. He makes everyone important because they are all human beings, and that matters to him. They all have a story, and Jon will tell as many as he can

What I've learned about Bob Cyclone is that basically he was Glass Joe except real - never good enough to win, but brave enough to come back and try again.

@Mclarenboy1005 жыл бұрын
Also, it's only natural that Jon Bois dedicates a chunk of the video to someone with the surname Cyclone, never won a boxing match, got KOed in two bouts in two days and lost to a policeman who once lost his pants. I love you Bois. Marry me.

The video is entertaining regardless, even in absence of Bob cyclone. Details and tangents like that are why it's truly great.

This reminds me of looking at Google maps at the continent scale then slowly zooming down to some random area and continuing to zoom until you're looking at a neighbourhood you've never seen before. There's nothing quite like this anywhere. This should be a Netflix show. Give Bois a bigger budget, a team of a dozen or so animators with a big render farm and boom, instant sports analysis classic. Also, my name is Bob and after the intro, my name ceased to sound correct to my ears for another 10 mins, which is also mind blowing.

What's funny is that he actually animates these *with* the Google Earth software, just texturing random bits of ground then using the camera automation controls to record it.

One thing that I appreciate about this video is that it's honest in how you can't really look at the history of men's sports in America, or look at America in general, without the presence of racism pervading it.
@obscure.reference Жыл бұрын
this is true, it is also important to consider that the racial issues in the USA are very unique to our great nation, and it’s effectively up to us to prove that the ethnostate is not the ideal living situation. nations like south africa have done great things. but still, do not solve american issues.
