In 2008, some people in a message board spent an entire weekend fighting over how many days are in a week. This is their story. Welcome to Pretty Good, a show about stories that are pretty good.
Written, produced, edited, and narrated by Jon Bois for SB Nation.

exactly, so if it's a single day, and you work out twice in that day, that's two workouts, sprinkle that in over a 2 week period and you have 10 workouts!

My favorite part about this entire thing is that the only reasonable man in this thread, the guy who told them to just forget the concept of a week entirely and just alternate days, was completely ignored. They are so attached to the concept of weeks and months that they can’t fathom just alternating workout and rest days without considering what week it is in the month or what month it is in the year.

When I started doing workouts every other day, I ran into a problem. It means you're working out on alternating week days, making it harder to plan other activities around it. I think the thing I love the most about the works of Jon Bois is that he has the most wonderful ability to imbue his works with a grand sense of scale that makes it seem like it matters to the whole universe. 17776, the Tebow Chronicles, the episode of Breaking Madden where Tom Brady was trapped at his own one yard line. None of them matter in the grand scheme of things, but they all had a certain universe mattering profundity to them.

I think my favorite part of all of this is that: a.) TheJosh wasn't even the poster that asked the original question in the first place, and b.) The original poster who DID ask the question said it would be "4 to 5" times a week, and neither Josh nor Justin ever even addressed the "5 times a week" thing, because....what? They both just had an unspoken agreement that 5 times a week was obviously fucking stupid? Honestly....what the hell? Edit: I read (some of) the thread and noticed that the OP was the same age and from the same city as Josh, only difference was that the OP was banned and Josh was not, so safe to assume Josh WAS the op. I can admit when I am wrong....I feel like the dumbest boy alive...

Well, Fasolati "Henry" Whitamen, hear me out. A workout day actually has three parts to it: When the workout starts, when the workout is in progress, and when the workout is finished, and together this completes one full workout day. Now usually, it's the starting that's useful, because that's the only part that makes Josh enter the gym. However, sometimes it's sufficient to just use the in progress part, which allows Josh to do little lifts, to run on treadmills, to lose bodyfat slowly while stretching, and to lose bodyfat slowly with the weight machines. And as for the finish... well, there's currently no cases where that's useful or important, so don't worry about that part.

I think half this thread was just shit-posters that were ahead of their time, and it worked. Look how worked up you got about the ten day argument. Countering shit posting is a losing game, the only way you can not lose is to not play the game. But people take the bait all the time, I do it too.
@nicholaswhite7056

i mean is it still just shitposting if it makes the poster look absolutely uninformed about anything at all? being dumb ironically still makes you look dumb...I dunno. This is one of those things where different people just have different experiences and opinions and if they want to use those to look like a jackass on the internet more power to them i guess.

I remember a couple years ago this story hit my little chat group at the time. im pretty mad at math, but even I was able to deduce that the only way to work out every other day with no back to back workouts was a two-week calendar or to at some point in time skip two days instead of one. it would be interesting to dissect why each of these roided out toxic meat heads individually couldn't accept that we live in a world where the laws you've been given to live by may at times contradict (1: there are 7 days in a week. 2: never work out the same body part two days in a row)

Right? I don't understand how he didn't include that even numbers don't divide well into an odd numbered week... so therefore you'd need to do a fortnightly schedule or similar.
