Thank you Andy! I just love your videos (ALL of them). Love the bobbin description in this video as well as the complete and thorough instruction for BW repair and adjustments. I just found a 237 at a thrift store for $17 (it was 50% off of $35 because it appeared to be seized up). It was not seized up; only had the bobbin race in wrong!! I collect sewing machines and most of my thrift store and flea market finds work quite well, but because of your amazing KZbin channel, they are being serviced one by one. 37 machines plus 11 toy machines will keep me busy for quite soon time. The only problem is that now that I know I can fix anything, I’m worried that my sewing machine addiction may get further out of control 😂 If I can change the plastic/ nylon gears on my Singer Touch and Sew 648, I now know I can fix anything. Of course, I will not attempt repair on my new and very expensive BabyLock sergers and embroidery machines. Best Regards, JC

37 machines is a few for sure. I don't think of it as an addiction, but more of a "determined interest. You'll be OK because you are saving the machines from the landfills so karma is on your side. A model 237 for $17 is a bargain for sure. I recently saw just the motor for sale for $29. Thanks for the very kind comment, JC, and for watching Andy Tube.

Very good reminder when re assembling the rubber tire and the right way to place the washer and the screw. Definitely, will have to check that on my machine, since I've been encoutering issues that the winding comes off the handwheel often. Thank you Sir! :)

It can make a difference. Also, there are different sizes of tires, and if your is a little oversized it can have problems staying engaged with the wheel. Model 237 came from the factory with tire part number 15287, a medium-size tire. Here is a seller that lists the model and shows the dimensions if you'd care to compare the one you have for size. You may have a large size tire. www.sharpsewingsupplies.com/store/p1327/RUBBER-RING-15287.html If you buy a new one there are many sellers so compare price + shipping. Good Luck.

Andy, It has begun. My collection. I wanted a 201-2. Picked up and restored the 237 Hoshi, She works great by the way. Someone has promised me a great deal on a neglected Pfaff 130. And then I saw the ad on Craigs list, 3rd caller on bad pictures looked like a 201 the guy wasn't sure what it was or what to ask for it but said it was in pretty bad shape. I went to look, and sadly the cabinet was completely shot and the poor 201 seized tight. I fiddled and poked for a while, neither of us discussing a price when his wife said, "let him have it." just take it. All they want is a picture of it restore back in working condition. So everyone, keep watching Andy's videos, and bring these glorious neglected machines back to life. You are an inspiration Andy!

Congratulations on acquiring the "Rolls-Royce" of vintage Singer Sewing Machines! I've never had the good fortune of trying or even seeing, one in person. I am going by what other owners have related to me. The pinnacle of Singer Engineering and Experience after the Models 15, 66 and 101. If you have the time to do a pictorial History of your restoration I would be proud to feature a slideshow of your experience. I know from experience that takes a lot of precious time, so I get it if you don't care to do it. I'm really happy for you Joe, I know you will have a great time with it and thanks for rescuing another machine, and for your nice comments. Take Care.

Happy to take pics, I even have a video camera as well. I've always practiced the axiom of something which is broken or not functioning. It is my favorite straight stitch home machine. There are 50+ videos. I have this exact same machine and I am having trouble finding parts for the 237. My bobbin winder needs to be fixed along with my needle postioning lever. I may need more than that but, I will need to go through the machine more to see if there is more to fix. Do you have a recommendation of where to look for them . It's a good solid machine and would love to restore it. Motor sounds great. I live in Canada. thanks

For vintage sewing machine parts, I usually go to eBay. There are usually some sellers who part out the machine. Very new parts can be found as there is not a big market for them. You can get bobbins and so forth, but not what you describe. Many US eBay sellers will ship to Canada but it is very pricey. YOu can always look at eBay.ca. I just did and see some parts for sale there: www.ebay.ca/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p4432023.m570.l1313&_nkw=SInger+model+237+sewing+amchine+parts&_sacat=0

Sir I hope you can help me I have a vintage Kenmore and I replaced the bobbin winding tyre. While doing this the spring came off and I cannot get it on the right way. If I can send you a video or picture to show you what I'm talking about let me know. Thank you in advance.
@andytubesewing19533 жыл бұрын
Very sorry but I know nothing about the Kenmore machines other than they were made by different companies and branded with the Singer name. If you know the model number of the machine you may be able to find a service manual or parts diagram for it, IDK. I know there are online groups for vintage machines but do not know if any are for Kenmore. One place I have bought many Singer manuals (service/parts) from is manualsoncd.com/ If they have what you need they usually have the lowest price.

I just got a Singer 237 and the women said it just doesn't work! Well I beg to differ!! It is a fantastic machine, after the 7 screws method of cleaning! Thank you. My bobbin winder is seized up! It barely turns. Can I soak it to loosen it up or is there another way? Thank you!!!
@andytubesewing19534 жыл бұрын
Thanks for rescuing that marvelous machine, Joyce. Sure, you can soak the BW if it is seized up. I'm not sure if pure Krud Kutter would hurt the black "paint" on the pulley, but it will not hurt the silver metal parts. I have found that dried up oil/dirt gets trapped in the spindle bushing. I have put the BW in a can and poured boiling water over it. I have soaked the whole thing in a plastic cup covered in alcohol or even dish soapy water. The idea is to soften whatever type of gunk is inside. I have never had one that did not free-up and start turning eventually. Then rinse with water, dry very well with a hairdryer and add a couple drops of fresh SMO around the edge of the spindle where it goes into the bracket/hub. All of that depends on the fact that you did not find any rust on the BW. If you found rust you really must use a rust remover b/c none of the things I mentioned here will dissolve rust. Patience is the key with stubborn parts. I usually soak a part like this and go do something else on the machine or whatever then return later and try it. Once it starts to turn you can start twisting it back-and-forth to break-up the gunk. Thanks for watching my channel and good luck.

This design which is similar to that of the Singer 427 is not very good.On the 427, because the position pin does not click into a locked position to maintain the friction between the rubber wheel and the handwheel . So what you get is bobbins that does not wind unless you manually hold the wheel in position. Anyone have a solution for this.?
@andytubesewing19532 жыл бұрын
I've never seen a 427 and can't find documents for it in my SInger files, but found pictures online. Reminds me of the 337 and 347. The BW actually works well without the problems you mention. It's rare for a vintage Singer Bobbin Singer to "click" into a locked position. Like the one in this video, they mostly use a friction washer to hold the friction wheel (tire) against the handwheel. ( @24:00 in the video.) If yours does not do that you can check to see if your friction (cupped) washer is missing or installed backward. When was the last time you oiled the spindle on your BW? ( @20:20 in the video ) The spindle faces up and fine grit, dust, and lint get into it. You can remove and clean it with alcohol if needed, but it definitely needs to be oiled occasionally. Finally, do you know how old the tire is? They do get stiff and dry which can cause poor contact with the handwheel. So clean, check washer, oil and a new tire normally solves poor winding problems. Thanks for watching my channel.
