@@bugs1yb1ins I think when you're Turks you go for 15 range bombard cannons instead of trebs, but it would be a hell of a dance trying to outmicro MBL's own bombards as Alan mentions. Perhaps a mix of rams and bombards, but then again you need a lot of eco for that if you also want the meat shield for the rams. It's pretty much a scenario of "just don't let it get that far". MBL had already won before he put up the 1st tower, he just wanted to try it out since he had such a good lead.

This strategy reminds me of my playing style. For the record, I only play against AI (I never PvP in any game), and I am very fond of creating intricate, concentric wall and tower defenses. It warms my heart to see it in a high ranking game. Also, one of the big changes that I HATE about the post AOC versions of AOE2 was the balance-based, utterly ahistorical nerfing of bombard towers' damage to rams. (They used to do as much damage to rams as bombard cannons still do.)

Yeah I feel like walls are way more effective against the AI, at least whenever I'm playing against friends it feels like they have much more of a specific plan than the AI and just blast a hole in a wall with 3 petards or a ram in 10 seconds

It is not their fault, the problem is the matchmaking. If he were against another top player then it would be ok to do something like this if he played better, but against "noobs"?

Dang, my dad use this strats against the hardest AI on skirmish. My dad wasn't even a gamer, he just played city building games like Caesar III, and duel the Caesar... One day he asked, 'what is that game?' I was playing AoE2, my uncle installed it on my dad's pc and I've been playing AoE2 all day long. I thought to myself, "Surely dad can't play this type of game" but I explain the game to him and leave him to his own devices. It was back when I was only a 3rd maybe 4th grader, so my dumbass self would maxed everything first before attacking the easy AI. Seeing my dad doing early raids, tower drops, and castle drops, it blew my mind...one particular map had the enemy surrounded by walls of bombard tower, similar to this one, with some space in between for trebs to shot down enemy trebs, light cav on front and bombard cannon behind. All of this are things that he thought himself...we don't have any internet or the likes back then, only got 56kbit modem that was rarely used. Man, if only he was born one generation later...but in hindsight, I might not have been born, so I'm happy it works this way, haha.

This is what it looks like when I play Portuguese on Arena. Had one game against hardest AI that lasted 6 hours with hundreds of Bombard Towers built. The game ended when the AI had chopped all the trees on its side of the map. At that point it was just tasking villagers to run into tower fire until it resigned.

I was worried MacLuffy would run past the wall (cut a few trees left; or a bombard or treb for a hole one either side) especially in the begin. The weakness of a tower is that it can be in completely the wrong place --- these are perfect on the condition that McL kindly feeds his stuff to it; but they don't protect anything of MbL nor pressure McL's base. Also, why not spend similar cost on 4x bombard, then 1x castle, then repeat 3x, then another 4x bombard (16bombard, 3castle = 1600g + 2000st + 1950st = 5500res --- much cheaper, though a bit shorter because 16 towers is four tiles longer than 3castles). Also advantage you can safely reinforce by filling castles then flooding units ----- drawback the castle may trigger trebbing which these towers don't seem to provoke?

at 20:20 the problem with AoE2 meta is that unless it's executed perfectly other strategies might perform better... that's why I loved the wall-less game, it brought back the rock paper scissor of army composition. PS.: that might be a good video idea. like a look into the tech tree to show what's good against what plus theory vs reality

He needed to save the resources on all those rams and use trebuchets so they couldn't be sniped. Back them up with pointy boys and jannisaries and have some hussar sniping groups. Trebuchets would be easier to protect and enough of them coudl make those expensive walls rubble and a waste quickly. 5 trebs - 10 trebs == wall of towers goes bye bye. Then, you wipe everything away from your town

I think perfect illustration about turk strength is that 6 hour mvl vs hera game. Mbl(turks) had 75k gold collected vs Heras 20-30k if I remember correctly and the game was even. Hera basicly lost because he ran out of food. So not so good early game and sucks at end game if gold has ran out.

There are at least 3 different Turk civ in the game (Turks, Cumans, Huns) and I love playing with them
