exactly! that was also the purpose of 6:16 in la which was not catchy and had disses that were so hidden that ppl were discrediting it immediately. it made drake believe that this perceived "weak" diss was kendrick's attempt at his own "back to back" record that he mentioned in euphoria. all while kendrick's real "back to back" record was actually not like us which he intended to dominate the charts and clubs with . 6:16 in la gave drake the false confidence to drop family matters the same day, thinking the battle was about to be over.

The criticisms I saw of Drake on the music side of things outside of 'inauthenticity' (ghost writers, etc.) is that he wants to be a pop star using hip hop, but doesn't want to actually make hip hop. He was a manufactured act as far as the hip hop crowd was concerned and so him trying to muscle his way in via pop status just rubbed everyone the wrong way, especially since after people would give him the rub, he'd just moonwalk out, not returning the favor.

Then they will discuss it no end. So he knew very well that even him hinting will have thousands of people openly speaking things, without him having to outright breathe a word. And we adore him for it too. He knew we'd happily cherish chatting away about the many things he's potentially saying. It was super cool to hear him state that in 'Not Like Us' where he tells Drake 'Hey Drake, shape it how you want, the audience ain't slow.' Kendrick knows his audience, and he spoke to us, and we passed on the message. Drake is not clever enough to harness the people like that.

I am so glad you brought up Marduk!!!! I 100% agree. I feel like 6:16 doesn't get enough credit for how great it is, but this song is almost like a spell. I wake up in the middle of the night reciting the lyrics. Randomly, they will pop in my head. It's a strange phenomenon as i didn't pay much attention to this song when it was released.
