This is why John Williams cannot be replaced by anyone from Remote Control. His music is alive and breathing. It has character. It almost literally speaks to you, tells you a story of its own.

***** Although, it's to be admitted, even Williams uses electronics not very rarely. Famously, the celestae in nearly all of his Harry Potter scores were manipulated electronically and accompanied by synths to make them sound more eternal and mysterious. And the theme for the Invisibility Cloak was almost entirely synthetic. But _that's_ how you use electronics right.
@iLikeTheUDK
@iLikeTheUDK 9 жыл бұрын
***** Course. The celestae in Hedwig's theme were made to reverbrate more to extend the decay and release and soften the attack, so in the recording they're not much more than ringing sine waves - which makes it sound really mysterious, like Williams probably intended. Same for the theme for the Invisibility Cloak from the first film - it sounds really otherworldly and mysterious; it took me years to figure out exactly what that sound was until I figured out that it was a synthesizer. It sounds less like a typical, orchestral Williams composition, and more like something that Tristram Cary would make for "Doctor Who" back in the 60s.

You see, Hans Zimmer is great at creating epic music, but John Williams just captures the very essence, and the spark in everyday life. I like how "human" Williams' work is.

IMO Williams does epic, grand music even better than Zimmer - Listen to his scores for the Star Wars films, most of Steven Spielberg's famous films, and the first three Harry Potter films.So much complexity, such a unique sound, especially those rapid, pulsating brass staccatos.

I have said it before and I know I will say it again but John Williams has such a gift at taking any emotion or any situation and putting it to music that perfectly represents it. The Book Thief music evokes curiosity and mystery perfect for Liesel finding books and learning to read. It perfectly captures the feeling of time passing as we see Liesel grow and mature throughout the movie. There are moments where the music is playful and fun which is very rare in this movie but they are there. Whenever Rudy and Liesel are playing together or when they have the snowball fight in the basement. Then there are beautiful yet sad moments for when Max leaves or Papa goes off to war. And then there are the powerful, completely engulfing moments of music that just kinda take over you and fill you with emotion which happens when the town gets bombed. John Williams is a genius composer and every soundtrack he makes is so perfect and good. He truly can convey the story through just a few pieces of music.

This is my favorite movie as well as my favorite book. I know that the movie left a lot out (characters that Tommy, Frau Holtzpfel, important parts of Hans’ history with Max’s father) but overall I have never seen a movie that made me…feel the same way that the book does you know what I mean? Like I love the Harry Potter books and movies but after the first two movies they stopped FEELING like the book you know? They were still good they just didn’t give me the same magical feeling that the books did. But The Book Thief kept the feeling and overall vibe of the book. Again it’s not a perfect adaptation (but other than the 1995 Pride and Prejudice what book to movie adaptation is?) but it gave me the same feeling, the same emotions that the book did

just after reading the book i watched the movie. As always the book is better. I mean it goes deeper exploring the characters and the full story. Th movie is a very good adaption though some characters are absent and i think some others needed more similarity with the book. In my opinions there should have been less changes in comparison with the book. The soundtrack was great and i loved the actors,expecially rudy. HE was so sweet. To conclude, i think the main idea of the book was given. Though the book is the book. ;)
