This is my type of video! I love historical fiction, though I haven't read that much recently. I haven't heard of many on your list, which is exciting. I also read The Last Green Valley and thought it was excellent. Really want to pick up his more popular novel Beneath a Scarlet Sky

6:13 Sister, mother warrior, Island queen and queen of exiles are among my 4/5 star rated books! I am an absolute fan of the author.😊 I had started reading the last rose of Shanghai and stopped. I am glad you mentioned it because I re- added it to my TBR.😊 Great video!

I’m on a quest to get back to reading. I’m not too fond of fiction but struggle through some of the pain of non-fiction (just knowing that the events really happened)… historical fiction seems more my speed. Thanks for the recommendations! I remember reading “The American Girl- Addy” series… the black American runaway slave girl. ❤❤❤❤ I miss those days of reading.

Awww I’m so happy you are getting back into reading! I feel you on the pain of reading non-fiction sometimes. I’m hoping you enjoy some of these recommendations! I loved Addy growing up as well!

Kenneth Roberts (Colonial American history)Colleen McCullough (Rome Series) are my favorite. Roberts even did a book on what it was like to be a Loyalist during the American Revolution.

Thanks for the recs! One YA historical fiction I just finished and quite enjoyed was I Must Betray You by Ruta Sepetys. If you haven't read that yet, I definitely recommend. It's about the 1989 Romanian revolution, which I knew nothing about until this book.

I’ve never read a Rita Septys book and I’ve heard good things about I Must Betray You and Salt of the Sea! Thanks for the recommendation! I need to get to these

I’m currently reading Island Queen now ( so good) and Sister Mother Warrior and Queen of Exiles are a in my TBR stack. The covers are also stunning … I purchased them in Hardcover to keep in my collection and in soft copies to read. 😊 And the Davenports is just 5 stars ⭐️ can’t wait for the sequel.

Thank you for making this!!! For the sisters book, would you say it would help to have a context about the Haitian revolution before hand? I know bullet points but not details😅 Also I’m super excited to find another Gabby who also likes to read🥰

Hi!! Gabby is a wonderful name 😍 I don’t think you need to know anything about the revolution beforehand. I didn’t know much about it except for a few names prior to reading it and learned A LOT!

I enjoyed the presentations of your list of books. However, I was wondering, do you have any (I don't know) book recommendations with a male presence. I listen to these reviews often by different personalities, but they all APPEAR to be female oriented. Getting to be a bit discouraging.
@gabbylikestoread18 күн бұрын
The Last Green Valley is written by a man and has a male POV. Also, the Last Rose in Shanghai has a male POV as well. I’ve read two male authored YA romances that were great. (Charming as a Verb and the Opposite of Always). I’ll reading and reviewing more male authors in 2025!
