Rosalee came charging in here with a growl and a whimper after Olive and Riley expressed themselves. I was able to calm her with treats and ear scratches, but I'm afraid she still suspects me of cavorting with strange dogs. 🐕 Happy Birthday, and enjoy the vacation! Looks like you have some good reads lined up. Three Body Problem has been on my list for a long time. You know that part of the Gone Girl film where she's chillin' with those "rustics?" That was filmed very close to where I live. Several other locations were filmed just across the river. So uh, rural "pride," I guess? 😊 I've been working on a book about D-Day because of the 80th anniversary. It just floors me the years of coordinated planning and effort it took to pull off Operation Overlord in terms of economics, developing new technologies, large scale manufacturing, raising up, training, and supplying a vast force of mostly "citizen soldiers" able to challenge the battle-hardened army of a totalitarian regime, and a thousand other things. Even considered at the broadest level, it's mind-blowing. I sincerely wonder if we're even remotely capable of something comparable today. And that's before we even get to the actual bullets flying part! 😬
@BookBlather4 ай бұрын
Haha.. sorry, they really went nuts! What’s the title of the D-Day book?
@BryanM.R.-prionic14 ай бұрын
@BookBlather Hey, it's no problem. You should see how stirred up she gets if a doorbell rings on the TV. Not to mention old footage of Winston Churchill. She REALLY doesn't like him for some reason. 😂 The book is called ... "D-Day." 😁 It's by Stephen Ambrose. Bit of a chunky monkey, but it's very easy to read.

Horrorstor is on my TBR - I hope to get to it sometime this year! I’ve enjoyed the few books of his I’ve read. The Discworld books are also well worth the read! I’ve read about half of them, they are great.

@@BookBlather I know the feeling! I like to remind mine that they’re lucky they’re cute sometimes, pitching it fit for no reason. Or very sneaky plotting reasons as the case often is. LOL 😸😆 🐕 Olive's sister had a lot to comment on there! As a youth I was too busy slowly collecting the John Carter series to read those Tarzan novels by Rice Burroughs, but there's nothing saying I can't try to do so now 👍 "C.B. Angel" is surely a lost classic, akin to finding an unknown Balzac, or something 😏😸
@BookBlather4 ай бұрын
Oh, no doubt, CB Angel is classified among the greatest of quality literature 😜. I definitely recommend giving Tarzan a try. I had no idea it was such a quality book. I’ve enjoyed them all so far, but that first one (Tarzan of the Apes) is phenomenal.
@JohnSeney4 ай бұрын
👍 You know it we're talking "Dukes of Hazard" level quality there 😏😸 I would want to start at the beginning with Tarzan and see what I can do about finding each one, not necessarily in order after number 5!

Looks like you have a lot of good books coming up this month, Dave. I had wanted to read Dune this month, too, and I also decided against it because I'm just doing too many things. Some other time, I guess. I've never heard Olive bark so much! I have a copy of HorrorStor also, which someone must have given to me. I had hoped to get to it last month, but I ran out of time in May. I've liked all of the Gillian Flynn that I've read. Hugs to Olive. And Riley too. 🐶

You really should start with Guards! Guards! and then Wyrd Sisters! These were 5 stars… I dnf’d a few other Disc World books but I heard the one you have is the worst.
@BookBlather4 ай бұрын
I've heard that. But Gareth recommended I start with this one to get the background of the world, so I'm going into it with the mindset of not to give up on the series just because of this one 😜

Discworld are the books that got me into reading, I would say though that The Colour of Magic is probably the weakest book in the whole series but it's still very enjoyable, it really got into it's swing with Mort which is the third book. If you enjoy it I would try Guards Guards Guards though, as that is the start of probably the best set of books.
