Good choice. Here's a few pointers: - The 204 never had Carbon Ceramics. The Performance Package cars on the facelift used a Composite brake disc. It's a cast item with aluminium bell/spider and normal iron rotor. About 3kg lighter. However, the early Performance Package cars used a Brembo 2-piece floating disc that is both cheaper than the Mercedes Composite disc and about another 200g lighter, plus it's floating. All discs, be they the cheap cast ones, composite or 2-piece are all exactly the same dimensions and therefore interchangeable. - On this era the gearbox mode is not called Comfort, it's Controlled Efficiency. Ironic I know but check the manual. - Get a Wavetrac installed, like a Quaife but that little bit better and only slightly more money. Should be around £1,600 or so fitted. - Get it remapped! The M156 was designed to make around 510-520hp as standard. In the C63 the throttle mapping is such that it limits the opening of the bodies to around two thirds. Over 5krpm the power curve flattens out as the restriction hits. A remap gives you that 50-60hp back at the top end that it's meant to have. Much stronger rush to the redline. - If you're offered a gearbox update don't get it! The shifts are barely any smoother and you lose nearly all the downshift barks. Fill up, enjoy, repeat! 😁

Absolutely this (I had my C63 from new back in 2012). The remap is one of the big ones; makes the engine come alive over 5000rpm. And the LSD is essential. I test drove back-to-back LSD vs open diff, and there’s a huge difference. So much so that I ordered my C63 Estate with the factory LSD (£1750 at the time). Made it a rare beast!

Damn, I'm not sure if mine has been fitted with the LSD. It's so difficult to say if you don't have any comparison. I'm Swiss, so it might be the case that for the Swiss (mountains, snow) Market it came equipped with the diff. The spec sheet doesn't show the Option 471, but the car has the cooling fins underneath, which usually just the LSD car has (but again this is not 100% safe, there are reports of LSD cars without the Fins and non LSD cars with them). It almost drives me crazy! :-D

I have the estate with the MSL stage 1 map, still no LSD and yes, compared to my former e92 m3 it is wayward but honestly they are heavy old things so the cornering will never match the beemer, the remap just gives more of what the car is good at…speed, lots of it. Improves the gearbox shifting tooX

@@thegreat0220 exactly what you’d expect… terrible. I worked out my average mpg across several tanks, rather than using the cars estimate, and got 15mpg. It’s something to consider but really it’s our ‘special’ car so MPG wasn’t a concern.

The only thing I don't like about almost every interesting Mercedes is that they are all automatics. That's why I looooove the B7 RS4, even if it's less torquey and it has its V8 placed a bit too forward. Anyway, this thing is amazing...a 6.2 in an estate has to be one of the best things in the automotive world! Lovely vid, as always!

I've found if I get anything above 8mpg in the city I must be doing something wrong. If you think about it in three dimensions, I don't think there is a vehicle that provides more smiles per volume of fuel while keeping at/near the speed limit. You can have an absolute ball of a time under 45mph. The thing that really opened by eyes is that at motorway/Interstate speeds, it's proven to be an excellent long distance cruiser in terms of ride quality and comfort (while acknowledging the fuel tank could be larger).

the W204 was such an overlooked car because Every journalist was concerned with 0-60's and lap times and they all picked the M3 over the C63 just like they did back when the 190E evo came out and the C36 and the C43 and the C32 and C55. They're all AMAZING vehicles and for those of us who know it, they will always be the best choice

I've had the swan song C63 Edition 507 (W204) since the back end of 2015 and I've found it hard to replace, every equivalent car I've tried just doesn't hold up and that includes M3, M4, RS4, C63s, only car that came close was a 911 TurboS, GT3 and the RS6 but I'd say cost wise they are the next level up, the 507 is a stunning car, puts a smile on my face every-time I turn the key and to this day still turns heads, and believe it or not I can sell it today for the same price I paid back in 2015.

Leased a 2021 sedan C63amg (non S) 4L TTV8 back in April 2021. Love the car! My first merc and first V8. I rarely even play music because all I want to hear is the V8 exhaust. Windows down, RPMs up! Like most have said, power dies at 5k+ rpm. I only have about 3k miles on the odometer and really want to tune it to stage 1 but terrified about killing the warranty. Already had to replace a broken thermostat at 2k miles. With worldwide logistic issues, car was at the dealerships for 3.5 weeks waiting for parts. Anyways, I’m probably going to buy this beast out when the lease is up in 2024. The amount of smiles I get is stupid, and Idgaf about 10-13mpg in the city. Cheers!

I've got a W204 C220 D and no, it's not a C63, but it is dynamically great around those twisty passes like the Cat and Fiddle with that oversteer push when you want it; and, a superb relaxing quiet cruiser along the motorway, when you don't.

Well, for a start,… The Estate/Wagon is close to 2 tons. Approx 1930kgs fully wet. The transmission can be re-set to the driving/driver style. Look it up. Only in Sport+ or Manual, the transmission will be 100ms at best. After a re-set,..it’s very very quick. The factory LSD (OEM) is outrageously priced and to be honest, Quiafe or WaveTrac are far better LSD’s albeit they must be “dialled” in. Fuel economy in Comfort mode is acceptable if you don’t beast the beast. 11.4L/100. Do silly shit and it will devour fuel. Long range (optional) fuel tank is 80L. 507 are 90. The instruments are pants. Very 1990 Mercedes. Fantastic. They only tell you what you need to know,..not disco lights. The W204 did not feature carbon brakes at any time. Period. The 507’s utilised two rotor discs on the front. Look it up. If you don’t buy one, you have missed a significant joy in your life. …and yes, the exhaust sounds just, like, that. Like God, laughing.

just doesn't make sense, no paddle delay in Sport mode when he's not pulling the paddle. Sure it's not as fast as DCT, it's not dual clutch. Know what gear you need like driving stick and plan ahead.

I drove a B8 RS4 on the same day I tested the S204 C63 I ended up buying. No contest. Steering is much better on the C63, hydraulic and creamy smooth. No feel and too light in RS4. Engine in the RS4 sounds far too mundane until you're right at the top of the revs, which you don't get the chance for much. The M156 sounds epic all the time at any revs. Much more grunt too and being port injection it doesn't coke up like the RS4. Interior is subjective but I think the C63 wins. Can't stand the Audi control wheel scrolling the 'wrong' way and the seats are amazing in the C63. The RS4 seats lack support unless you get the rare buckets. Exterior the RS4 probably wins but the C63 still has decent front arches and luscious tailpipes. The gearbox is better in the RS4, responds to paddle inputs properly. That said in auto the MCT in the C63 is actually good too. If you want a car to make you smile all the time, fast or slow it's the C63. The RS4 had heavy nose understeer which you just don't get in the C63.
