The Baked Bean suppers were immediately followed by the Noxious Gas festivals.

Nice piece if history. One hilarious recollection I had , was when they had a hemp festival in the commons and the cops could not lay hands on happy campers, until there is, they stepped out of the grounds with non consumed reefer. They had the paddy wagon at the Charles and Beacon just in case and made a few scant arrests.

Unfortunately liberals have ruined that once great city... Still beautiful tho

ruined it? Liberal politicians haven't been the ones changing the city, developers deserve most of the blame for changing neighborhoods, other than what happened with urban renewal, but that wasn't liberal politicians. The city is so much clearer than its ever been and safer than its been in the last forty. I've lived in Boston for decades and this is the most involved I have seen our civic government be. The common in particular is far safer and clearer than it was even twenty years ago. Most of the changes in the downtown crossing area over the passed few years have made a tremendous positive impact.

Boston has been liberal since the 18th century

By liberal you mean kind and welcoming to all people despite their gender, sexual orientation and race? Yes, in Boston we are proud that everyone can be their authentic selves.

Boston is my home town. Most people I grew up with were Liberal Democrats.i prefer independent party affiliation. This whole liberal vs conservative debate is very divisive. There are good intelligent people on both sides. Unfortunately, the Main Street media are the true purveyors of hate and fear mongering .

You obviously have no clue about Boston history. It’s been a bastion of liberalism forever. The epicenter of the Revolution and the abolitionist movement.
