The Bouncer is a beat 'em up game for the Sony PlayStation 2 video game console. Released in Japan in December 2000, in North America in March 2001, and in Europe in June 2001, it was co-developed by Square and DreamFactory. The game features character designs by Tetsuya Nomura and music by Noriko Matsueda and Takahito Eguchi.
The Bouncer tells the story of three bouncers on a rescue mission to save their young friend from a megalomaniacal solar technology corporation. The game is structured like a "playable action movie" and the plot unfolds differently depending on which character the player chooses for specific gameplay sequences.

I remember my brother playing this. I was just 5 or 6 years old. I couldn't understand any of it, just saw people fighting and that. But now that I see it as 26 year old man I realize that it has an incredible resemblance to Kingdom Hearts (that in that time was still to come) and FF7 (1997). Definitely part of my life as a child.

this is the game that made my buy a PS2. it's a work of art IMO with the storyline and gives a supreme demonstration of the PS2s capabilities. this game forever holds a special place in my heart.

I can remember right before the ps2 came out and they were showing off the vids of this game. Everyone was so excited, but I wasn't fooled. I can remember thinking, hmm sure it looks the part but the gameplay is prob shite. Low and behold picked it up dirt cheap 6 months after release and what a short pile of dung. I had to be sure I was right.

i remember this game was supposed to be ground breaking. you were supposed to be able to pick up weapons and use the environment like a real bar fight but square soft stopped dreamfactory from doing this according to game informer magazine.

They really should do a reboot. It could be a life sim action sim where you play as Sion post his thug phase and where you work, build up coworker relations, train, know what is going down in Edge, get dragged out on long days where they get into gang fights or riots, and where the end of the game could simply be the Mikado Group incident.

This game suddenly popped into my head after escaping my memory for years, couldn't even remember the name of the game, which is odd given how much I used to play it Good times. Volt was always my favorite character because of the no cactuar patch on his jacket. I still remember chasing that mfer around on FF8 in order to get him as a gf. It was worth it.

What they should do to make the sequel better: -Improved camera angles -A targeting system -A button that let's you dash -Ability to do more combos -Less ragdolling around (not completely take it away, cause it makes it funny as hell) -More characters (So far we only have little characters for the story) -Longer story mode -Bigger differences in the paths you chose -More damage to the finishers; by like a LOT. -Ability to switch characters in the middle of battle And that's all I can think of from the top of my head. I love the shit out of this game, and I just got it on my emulator today. I want a second one to happen.

Aesthetically, this game is top notch. The graphics are gorgeous and the stage design is nice. It'd be a fun world to play around in if you weren't forced through linear fight after linear fight. It's a shame the actual fighting mechanics are so slow and clunky. The game is a _chore_ to really play, but it's pleasant enough to look at.

This game was a breakthrough moment for me as a gamer. Introduced it to as many friends as I could because none of them had heard of it but I luckily got to play it at a now extinct Sony store in a major US city where they had a ton of these Square Enix games on displays as demos. What a great game man! Such fond memories I have of it!

This was my first PS2 game!! I got it just 9 days after it's release. I was only 12 then, god how time flies. I knew nothing about it but I picked it out because I thought the character on the front cover looked like Cloud Strife from FF7 and it was by Squaresoft, the company behind the FF series. Squaresoft had a good track record back then so I thought I was in for a treat. However, The Bouncer as I recall, was quite bland and forgettable and seeing the game again after all these years I realize that I was not wrong. The camera was horrid, the controls were highly derivative of fighting games from previous console generations and the character backstories (Kou being a spy etc.) and the human experiment subplot did not work within the confines of the maingame's brisk, action movie plot. And while I was blown away with the graphics, I quit playing it after only a few weeks. But seeing and hearing this mediocre failure of a game again gives me the warm fuzzy feeling of times long gone.

I love playing each character in any scenario opens up the world a bit more. Explore the characters more and their relation to each other and the events. It was also a good way to replay the game. Unlock more characters in the challenge modes. Also, whenever your partners taunt you have to taunt with them to use a special team attack move that does a good deal of damage. Listen out for their audio ques. "Hey come on!" "You ready?" Kou just whistles. Think of it as the specials in sonic heroes. This could also be done to the bosses, saved for Duragon cause he would only dodge and reverse it. Which was a nice insight to how powerful he was.
