I'm a mechanic for a similar pinsetter. More than likely, it was maybe a loose deckboard screw or some junk stuck in the gap between the transport band and the ball door. So for that brief moment, the ball was just spinning against something and scratched the hell out of it.

A brunsick I used to bowl leagues at got new ball returns and on the first league that came in they weren't working correctly and people's balls got stuck in them and it just ate up like 6 bowling balls that night. Needless to say that was an expensive night for the bowling alley.

In the 1980’s, my urethane bowling ball often got gouges taken out of it from the bowling pit that it spent a lot of the time at the pro shop being patched up. I guess it made it one of the world’s hybrid balls. 😂

Wow that is demoralizing. I was at a bar bowling alley and had a 1/2” by 1/8” deep chunk gouged out of my plastic ball. I informed the manager to let him know that his lane needs maintenance. Fortunately, it was an old plastic ball. I would hate for that to happen to a new ball like the hyroad.

Hey darren, if you start a pba tournament 1 handed, can you switch to 2 hands in that tournament at any point? If so, i think 1 handed is you best bet right of say 30, and once your forced left of 30 go 2 handed. Your 2 handed game getting around the ball looks alot more comfortable.

Yes it's legal to switch from 1 to 2 handed at any point as long as you ball is drilled correctly and a finger is filling every hole. As long as you are releasing it with the same hand all tournament long it don't matter what style you use.
