Hi Lamont! Ikie's parents are interred in Barboursville Cemetery, West Virginia. There is some information online regarding Ikie that his body was preserved by soaking it in alcohol (a common method at the time), but the alcohol eventually contributed to the deterioration of the crypt as it wore away the rubber seal on the small viewing window which allowed the alcohol to evaporate. Ikie was exhumed and reburied in 1979.

Formaldehyde is very deadly , toxic. I think the mom just went in the tomb to visit the grave sight by going through the door of the tomb. She could not possibly keep holding a body soaking in that poison , it would of killed her. But like Lamont said, "" Legend has it """. Most the time Legends are lies made up a long time ago.

We had this a few years ago too. A twelve year old was found in pieces. It is still unsolved; they sent a guy to jail but it seems he wasn't the murderer Back then they said young Russians killed him because they wanted cigarettes and he had none. And short after his burial his poor parents found the grave open. Head missing, and it is still not found. I do not know how they endure this. By the way; if you know the film 'Nosferatu': It was made by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau. He died in the U.S.A., was brought back to Germany. He was obviously embalmed, which is not done here, and when by accident the coffin opened, they sunk into agony, since he hsd red cheeks and lips an violet eye shade and looked like a vampire. Some years ago- yes, you guessed it. Here the head is still missing, too. I have no idea, if ill - brained mo.rons enjoy heads of dead people side by side with the good porcelain in the living room's showcase, or if they dumped them into a river after the fun of digging the whole night into a grave- I have to admit I have no idea how such dirt feels, and this lack of empathy indeed makes me feel real happy.

Hey, Lamont! Just had to drop You this line and say Thank You, and Bravo for bringing us Your unique and creative Show. I'm a Vietnam Combat Vet. (505TH PIR 82ND Airborne Division - Ranger Qualified). I'm getting fairly old now, 76. But, I continually work out and stay in good shape. I'm also a Shotokan Karate Instructor with 51 years of experience. However, many of my fellow Vets are begining to die off. Because of this, I'm visiting various cemeteries more than ever. The cemeteries I visit are a mix of National Cemeteries for Vets, and private or religious type cemeteries. Through the years I find a strong fascination of the stories behind some of the people interred in these cemeteries as well as the cemetery itself, including the wonderful array of Grave Stones, Markers, Monuments, Mausoleums, etc. I did a little research and found out that the idea of a City having public parks of trees, grass, benches, and all was actually inspired by cemeteries. Before there were pretty Public Parks for people to enjoy, the average working class family would actually use cemeteries to gather in and have small picnics and such things. Of course they were respectful of the Dead buried within the grounds. Then, as time went on various Big City planers and architects got the idea and concept of building Public Parks to bring a little bit of nature's beauty to the City Folk. Anyway, again You have my most sincere Thank You for bringing Your research and highly entertaining stories to all of us. Kudos to You, Lamont. Well done!

You touch my heart with your Stories.. you always speak with reverence & humanity - giving respect to the deceased regardless of how they lived their lives nor how they died. As a child of the 70's we all lived dangerously. Most outgrew those traits but many did not & we lost them to drugs (including my husband) I don't remember anyone stealing heads or disturbing graves but as you know drugs & alcohol give you courage to do crazy things. Many of which are wrong. Thank you for honoring this child. He needs to be remembered. He needs to be at peace Thank you for caring and sharing these stories. Beautiful private gravesite in the woods, no other graves around. I'm kinda envious. Nice tour Lamont. 👍👍

Ikie is pronounced "Eye-key." This little boy was originally buried in a cast iron metal Fisk coffin. The coffin then could be filled with any liquid, usually alcohol, to preserve the remains. Fisk patented this style coffin in 1849. It was quite expensive for it's time; $7-$40 with upgrades available such as silver handles. The preserving liquid would eventually destroy the coffin's seal, although some have actually been unearthed with remains found in excellent preserved condition. Ikey is buried next to his maternal grandparents & I believe the other grave is his uncle. I live quite near this little cemetery & have visited Ikey's Tomb. For those commenting about a cemetery so isolated, it was & still is customary locally to bury family members on the family's land. People had a much more intimate & comfortable relationship with their loved ones remains then we do now. The family would wash, dress, & lovingly display the body in their own homes for a wake. Family members would inter the body, too. This is a very rural area, mostly woods with a sparse population. Everywhere here in these WV hills & mountains you can find the remains of homesteads with family members buried nearby. These folks all lived then died at home & family wanted their loved ones nearby.

Oliver and Mary Ann Gorrell were Ikie's maternal grandparents, Ike's mother's mom and dad. Ralph Gorrell would have been Ikie's uncle.

MJ-- Nice Post. It IS Nice to Know. Glad Ikie, (Poor Little Boy), is NOT Buried Alone. That Would be Terrible, AND Horrible, if Ikie WAS Buried Alone. It's Nice, that the "Gorrell's", (Mary & Oliver), Grandparents, Maybe...... Are buried, Next to him... Rest In Peace, to these Folks... And Ikie...🙏👦🎈🙏👼😇

Thank you for all the stories and the time and effort you put into your shows. I wanted to run down to Huntington last week during your live show, just to say hello, but I couldn't get my Hubby to go with me. He acted like he didn't want me to go alone. I think maybe he was a little jelly, like he thought I would rip your clothes off and we'd do it in graveyard or something. He said "I've heard him talk about how he likes big booties" It was funny because he hasn't been jealous in decades 😆

Such a sad and desolate place for a little boy. It's strange that he wasn't moved to the burial place of his parents. Having been a paranormal investigator for 9 years I wouldn't mind sitting up there and trying to contact Ikey or his mom. I would be more scared of wild animals than spirits..

@The Mentalist Zz Oh yes, because EVERYONE back then slaughtered indigenous tribes, especially this little boy and his mom. Did all Germans slaughter the Jews? What about the indigenous tribes who slaughtered other indigenous tribes? Since all indigenous tribes got on so well with one another before the settlers came along. Everything was just peachy keen for thousands of years. I'm not sure whether your head really is that far up your ass or you posted bait but you're a jackass either way.
