Yeah definitely, I never liked her and I don't understand how some just jump straight to liking the character when it's clearly somewhat forced her niceness, specially with a show like this people should be already expecting a bad side. I feel like it was made to engage this specific kind of people specially, wouldn't be surprised if they were used to watch shows where those kinds of 'virtue signal' characters are very common
@douglas29384 жыл бұрын
The fact that you'd use "virtue signal" in a real conversation raises red flags. Especially considering that's not something new to this show, where ALL THE CHARACTERS have something to hide, even if they didn't know it like Starlight.
@Nydrin4 жыл бұрын
@@douglas2938 Having something to hide wasn't the point though. You say using virtual signaling raises red flags but didn't actually say what those flags are and that is kind of puzzling. Of course characters have something to hide, the virtue signaling is about how she specifically campaigns as a hero. She is all about abusing social media and painting specific narratives that fit her goal. The design team even specifically mentions it when they talked about how they created her for the show. Other characters are trying to achieve it through different means. I'd love to know what these red flags are and how characters having something to hide somehow changes the point. I'd also like to know what it being a real conversation has to do with anything as well. Somehow virtue signaling can't be talked about?

Homelander is more of a nationalist than racist. More specifically he's more amoral than immoral. He doesn't care about human lives but he loves human praise. He's all about his ratings. While he is careless about using his powers without making sure to avoid hurting innocent bystanders. Stormfront actively went after innocent bystanders because they were people of color. She might also be against Queen Maeve because Maeve is gay but I don't think they have shown her comment on it. Now some say amoral is worse than immoral because amoral is random while at least immoral has a code. You know Stormfront is going to be against people of color and support people of paleness. Homelander could haul off as a loose cannon against anyone and everyone without warning. That all said, personally I would say Homelander is marginally better. He can be, if not redeemed, redirected to doing good. Stormfront actively seeks to do evil against people of color and they have historically suffered the brunt of woes in the US and the Western world. Plus, we've actually seen Homelander do good--even if for selfish reasons.
@VenathTehN3RD4 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Homelander is a monster, but he's one that you might at least be able to push in the right direction. Even if it's self-serving he can be motivated to do good things because it's not what he's doing that he cares about so much as how much attention/affection it gets him from his fans (or in rare cases like Stillwell, someone that he has some form of attachment to). His son - just about the only person he considers "like him" - could potentially be someone to do that. Stormfront, on the other hand, is driven by ideology. She'll behave in a certain way to keep up pretenses in the public, but she'll absolutely go out of her way to hurt the people she considers lesser once she gets the chance, and she'll also subtly try to nudge the public towards her ideology. Homelander is more passively malicious, while Stormfront is more actively malicious. That's not to say that they never change it up and become more/less active in their cruelty, but that's the direction they tend to lean in.

I think that's what Mother's Milk meant. He, Frenchie & the Female are all ride or die with Butcher even when it might be too far and over a cliff. Hughy, their moral conscience, will warn them when they are going too far. He hasn't become as jaded or as scarred as the rest of the team. Man, that was a GREAT post-episode discussion. I feel like, without spoiling ANYTHING from the comics, you all having those kind of sensitive discussions, and how confusing and “shades of grey” and two-sided they can be, but also realizing it’s meant to be and to be fun and entertaining at the same time, kind of sums up the source material and the show, but in a way, life itself too. Which is the point, I think. The epitome of what “reactions” should be. You discussed the episode itself, and the real life points it brought up. I feel not only were you guys fair, but when you had differing opinions on a subject, you just stated your case why you feel that way. I’m a longtime Normies fan, but I’ve definitely called people out the wrong way in the past too when I disagreed with them. Sorry! Yea I always had doubt but I never doubted it because I wanted to like Homelander more or using it as a way to defend him. I just thought there was reason to doubt. Because the only person who said she was raped by him was Butcher and even he had zero proof just a video that Mallory showed him that showed her walking in and walking out of a room 3 hrs later. So I was always like 50/50 on it. Thinking that maybe Butcher was just reaching or using it as a way to manipulate Hughie. Which regardless of not knowing if it was the truth at that point he was still using it to manipulate Hughie. As he only decided to tell him right after he notices that Hughie is starting to fall for Starlight and that he needed to find a way to bring him back over to his way of thinking that all Supes are bad. But as soon as the interacted for the first time I figured yea he had to have raped her. As why else would she try her hardest to get away from him. As she would probably have no clue how terrible of a person Homelander was. Seeing how at the flashback of the party she seemed to be faltered and excited that he praised her work and wanted her to work personally with him from now on. So doubt she knew anything about who he truly was until after he raped her. Yet Homlander being as fucked up as he is probably never even viewed it as rape or might not even have a clue what rape is. Even if she was screaming no and trying to fight back. He in his mind probably just thinks she should view it as a honor that he was willing to have sex with her a mere mortal that she got to have sex with a god and that he blessed her with a child who is also a god.

@@Xone9 That line also makes me think that in Homelander fucked up head that what he did to her wasn't rape. I wonder if he even knows what rape is. Yet even if he knows what it was and Becca was screaming no the entire time and trying to fight back at all. That in his mind he didn't rape her. He blessed her by allowing her the privilege up having sex with a god despite her being a mere mortal. And that on top of that he blessed her with a son who is also a god. So in his fucked up head he probably thinks she should feel blessed for what he did.

It doesn't matter if Stormfront can't electrocute her. She'd physically tear her in two. Did you not see her get smacked around the hallway and not having a single scratch. Also the fact that she snapped that dudes hands off like nothing. Well I guess you'll figure it out soon enough.

I dunno what the critics were saying about the second season so far, but I wonder if what she was referring to at the start was the fact that the show only has a 3/5 star rating on amazon right now. The reason for that was that people were mad about not being able to binge watch the show, so it got review bombed on Amazon for having weekly episode releases.

@@moneykenny119 Homelander is more Nationalist than Racist I would say. Stormfront hates people because of their skin colour - Homelander hates things that aren't "American". That's why he also got annoyed by the pitch of him being the protector of the world and then got them to correct it to America instead. Both him and Stormfront are equally horrible but I think they're intentionally meant to be 2 sides of the same coin.

I think it's kinda silly to say that The Deep doesn't deserve to be let back into The Seven because of what he did. What he did was wrong, but at this point we've seen thoroughly that he was one of the least immoral people in the group. Starlight, Maeve and Black Noir are the only members of The Seven that we haven't seen do unjustifiably awful things at this point, and frankly The Deep seems like a good person at his core.
@Raidoton4 жыл бұрын
What he did would be a good enough reason to kick him out of The Seven forever. And Vought only cares about the public image. The Deep is trying to improve his public image, the others don't need that because the public doesn't know about the terrible things they did.
@bunklypeppz4 жыл бұрын
@@Raidoton I'm not talking about what Vought would or should do. I'm talking about the perspective of a viewer knowing what has happened with the characters so far. It doesn't make sense to say that what he did was morally reprehensible enough to make him undeserving of being a part of The Seven, considering that we know that more than half of them are ruthless murderers with twisted worldviews that commit crimes against humanity.
