I honestly think that Joe Kessler is dead. I think Butcher is hallucinating whenever he’s in the room. We’ve yet to see Joe when Butcher isn’t around or when somebody else is in the room with Billy. Maybe Joe died in that fight that Butcher pulled him out of that he referenced in episode 1?

I feel the exact same way about Hughie's mom. No one else has interacted with her. Literally as soon as she appeared I thought Hughie was dying like Butcher and hallucinating. It took 3 episodes for me to notice that it could apply to Joe too.

Okay so the “monkey” part of “surrender monkey” as a slur for French people comes from an incident during the 19th century. In the middle of the Napoleonic Wars a French ship was wrecked off the coast of a town called Hartlepool in England. The only survivor was a monkey dressed as a French officer that the crew kept as a pet/entertainment. When the locals found it they captured it and because they had never seen a monkey nor a Frenchman before and all they knew about the latter was stereotypes of them being hairy, smelly creatures that didn’t speak English they assumed he was a French spy and proceeded to hang him. Hence the “monkey” part of “surrender monkey” and why people from Hartlepool are nicknamed “Monkey Hangers.” Whether the story is true or not remains a hotly debated topic.

That's not where surrender monkey comes from😂 that monkey part came from the simpsons I'm pretty sure in the early 2000s and the whole thing about surrender is the fact that France surrendered almost immediately to the germans in ww2 and I think then in the Iraq war when the US asked France for help and were declined, they started to make the jokes about surrender, hence why the simpsons mentions the insult surrender monkey😂 its not hard to research and know basic knowledge
