That's epic big water. I'm too old to run it, and not getting any younger, but I get vicarious enjoyment out of watching others enjoy a really great lap, even if it's someone running class II for the first time (and even though class II is still very easy for me). Dane is always super stoked about everything he does, so it makes him a must watch, just as I'm sure it is for many people who love white water sport, and more specifically kayaking. Seeing him and his mates do their moves, temporarily becoming submarine commanders without taking a swim, and learning to fly by launching from waves, and a whole host of other things, and seeing them all being so stoked about it, is just a treat to watch. He also captures the peripheral parts of the trips too. I just loved the smile the bartender flashed when Dane ordered. I also love when he includes shots of local kids having fun playing in the kayaks after a trip. I remember a recent video where he plucked a piece of fruit which was hanging over the water and ate it on the spot. That's a move that I would so do, and it shows that he's enjoying even life's little serendipities. He is definitely not one dimensional, and he's clearly stoked on life, not just kayaking. All of these things, and more make his videos a treat to watch. Who can forget the video of his personal first descent of Tenaya Creek in Yosemite? "That... was something else! Wooooo!" You can't help but get stoked with him, and if you've run that giant nature made waterslide, you know just how he felt. If you haven't, you'll still know If I'm having a bad day, all I need to do is watch one of his videos. His attitude is contagious, even through a video... and a mask!

Always great to get your vids from the Zam. Hope you filmed taking the newbies down first time like you did with Isaac and gave that sage advice ‘just aim for the biggest hole and then go right’.

@danejacksonkayak So, is the frequent back deck roll just for fun, or is it a reliable strategy for those asymmetrical breaking tongues?

Whats the electrical tape on the paddle for? Is it broken?
@alessandrogula14013 жыл бұрын
For having better grip
@faerthenfelix6419 Жыл бұрын
I put yellow tape on my paddle so it's easier to find if I have to drop it (why are the shafts always stealth black?). Electrical tape is too slippery to offer grip, though I guess the edge might help. if I'm right, it says a lot about the respect Dane has for this water ;)

When the river is lower you can go up to the Minus rapids which are above the put in. But I arrived too late and there’s too much spray to make it up now.

i always wonder: is the singled out part with the big bowl at the bottom on the most right end of vicotoria falls runnable?
@danejacksonkayak3 жыл бұрын
Ish. When it’s at its absolute lowest, there’s a channel you could run but it’s got a super stout entrance and the waterfall spouts out super hard. Then you are also above all the minus rapids haha. And it’s massive.
@lordofnothing.3 жыл бұрын
@@danejacksonkayak i've never been there myself. so thx for giving some more insight! in fact i'd love to watch a short segment on you scouting the thing out, even if you're just explaining why one shouldn't run it^^
