Dane, thank you for posting this video! My husband Kenneth Lewis, whose claim to fame is being the first to run Upper Cherry Creek, hence the name Lewis Slide or sometimes referred to as Lewis Leap. Ken was so excited to find this video. It was the first time he had ever seen a video of this section of water. Over the years he has shared the story of how this run came about but last night (because of watching this video) he explained to me the reason he was able to run Upper Cherry Creek was because he was in the process of demoing a new kayak for a guy that had developed the first plastic/hardbody kayak. Prior to that technology the fiber glass kayaks they were using would never have made it through that rock walled section. He has so many stories of his Kayaking days. I told him he needs to write these things down. He and his buddies actually did several first runs on various rivers and waterfalls. Thanks again!

Ann, if has any photos he should DEFINATELY put a book together. BtW, I'm a long time adventure junkie and professional writer/photographer... just in case he needs a ghostwriter:-) Thanks for the story.

@@atatterson6992 Awwww, just saw your post. I know we have some photos somewhere. One of my all time favorites is of my husband in his kayak totally vertical about three feet above some serious white water in the Grand Canyon. I will try and find them. He definitely has some great stories.

How does anyone know they was the first... Maybe someone ran it but didn't record it.. . Maybe the native American ran it in a dugout. I am asking cause I don't know how anyone can claim to be the first person to run any river

2:30 Ugh, that was rough seeing Bren slide down that with his usual stoke, and amazing attitude. Dude, I am still utterly heartbroken over losing him, and I can't even begin to imagine how you feel since he was a close friend, while I never even had the privilege of getting to meet or paddle with him. Awesome video as always, but holy shit is it hard to watch footage with Bren... miss the dude so much already that I can't even put it into words. There has seriously not been a single day that has gone by since Bren's accident where I haven't thought of him, and hoped that the last 2 months were just some bad dream that I have yet to wake up from.

So glad Bren is getting to experience all this fun as that means double videos. Missing Adrian this summer though. Hope he is doing ok. Thanks for another awesome experience. Glad you show some of the not so perfect things as long as all is ok but just to remind us that this is hard. You all have just put in so much time to make this look easy when we know it isn't. Also thanks for letting us know how long these hikes are taking you. Just adds to the journey for us too.

Jeez that's epic. Definitely worth the walk through all the skunk cabbage, Queen Anne's lace, and assorted brush. Head back in another five million years and it will be a deep canyon. Parts of it already are getting there. Food is crunchy on the outside, juicy on the inside. Who cares what Gordon thinks. Yabba dabba doo! What an idyllic place to camp! I've heard of snow kayaking, but rock kayaking? That's just... No words. This video has to be one of the best of the year. There can't be more than a couple of handfuls of kayakers in the world who could pull this off as well as these guys. Simply amazing abilities on display.

I seriously had to pause the video and walk away for a minute when I first saw Bren. The avalanche of emotions seeing him alive and well again after the past 2 months was almost too much for me... But we have to remember that if there is a heaven, he would be looking down on us right now and laughing at how broken up we are over losing him, and telling us all to not let it slow us down or discourage us from paddling, and to have a great time out there while doing it. Despite the fact that I never met him personally, I know he would be telling all of us to not curl up in a ball of depression, and to remember him and everything he did fondly, but to never let it slow us down, or stop us from taking that next step. And now I have tears streaming down my face despite everything positive I just wrote. I miss him so much man... so fucking much Edit: Only made it to 3:53 before I had to shut off the video. I can't watch this yet dude, just hearing him speak again, and how psyched and happy he was just to be there is just too much. I'll come back and give this video another try a few months down the line. I thought I would be able to handle seeing Bren again, but I'm not ready yet. This is the first time I've cried in 8 years... I just hope he knew the absolutely massive and wonderful impact he had on the sport, and I hope he knows that none of us will ever forget him for as long as we live.

Dane - you must go through plenty of kayaks, sliding them down those dry rock slides. Ever worry about the bottoms getting too thin?

In terms of California they can definitely get abused with all the slides and stuff but one thing that’s great about Cali is the rocks are super smooth
