I just bought this generator at Costco. Regular price was $1299, but I got the adjustment for $999 when it went on sale. Glad I rewatched this video because I didn't realize the container had the exact amount of oil in the container...I put in about 3/4 and it shut down on low oil level...figures. I feel really comfortable with this generator because of Costco. I also like it is dual fuel. Propane is the primary, then it will switch to gasoline. I didn't think it would start on propane at first because of the low oil shutdown. AFTER I filled it with gas, I figured out the low oil error I had made. Runs quiet, starts right up. I like it!

I have had this generator for a couple weeks now. I have a transfer switch wired into my panel. I was able to power my house with propane with ease. No AC as I don’t have a soft start, and no clothes dryer. But, the rest of my house was humming right along. That includes a 220v well pump as well. I have tried the Duromax, Predator, Genmax, and Wen’s new open frame dual fuel inverter. Every single one I tried had different issues. This unit is almost perfect. It would be perfect if there was a gas shutoff. The propane to gas switching works flawless as well. Such a great feature. In a outage you can get it fired up fast to get power back, then hook up your propane when you get a chance. A+ work A-ipower!

If it is like most generators, you just turn the knob towards off just before it actually shuts off and it will shut off the fuel and continue running until the carb is dry. When there is a knob that you turn, that's usually both a valve and a switch and the valve should close before it is fully in the off position.
@Rockrewls
@Rockrewls 2 жыл бұрын
@@pcspecialistpdx I would bet you are correct just turn the shut off knob ~3/4 of the way to off and the fuel should be off before you get to the shut down switch. Maybe Gavin will show this in a test??

You might have seen me comment from other videos. Another Florida resident looking for a generator due to all the hurricanes. I just got the Generator hookup installed this week, so now time to hunt down a generator(s). I really wanted something like 4500w x2 so I could run just one overnight to save fuel, and run both if needed for extra power, as well as having a backup if one failed. The issue is nothing in that class has 240v. It's not that I need to run anything 240v during an emergency, it's just a matter of having it connect to the main 240v panel properly. So after so much deliberation I finally pulled the trigger on the GenMax GM9000iED since it has such good reviews and following on KZbin, though questionable reviews on Amazon. Obviously no big box store support, and its from China. With the $200 off coupon I did buy the extended warranty for it to get 4 years of coverage to help alleviate any concerns of failure. Now here we go, the very day after I can't cancel the Amazon order this rolls in. Fits exactly what I was looking for, and I have a Costco right up the road and I am a member. Maybe no buyers remorse if the GenMax doesn't let me down, and does well on fuel when only running overnight load of fans and such. Some things that make it hard is each manufacture gives a run time at different loads. Genmax says 10 hours at 50% load, this one says 10 hours at 25% load. So I have no way of knowing what the GenMax does at say a 25% load or less. I know from the last hurricane having to get thru with just my 2000w Champion it was very nice that I could get thru 24 hours only filling it twice, so it would make it thru the night without running out. At only 10 hours @ 25% load that might be a close call with this generator. But of course the different size fuel tank makes it even harder to come up with fuel "efficiency" ideally I want something that uses as little as possible, another reason I wanted the 1+1 setup, to only run one smaller generator to use less fuel, but I honestly do not know how say 1 smaller generator at 50% would do vs a larger one at 30% as far as fuel used. If the noise measurements are accurate, I guess t hats another nod to the GenMax at only 62DB vs this at 68DB, but again in a real emergency this does not matter much as everybody in the neighborhood is running a generator. Your review shows this one to be more quiet in Eco, and the Genmax a bit more quiet full boar, but close enough that its basically the same. It's nice that the Genmax has the proper 50A plug ready to connect directly, so that is another bonus. I mean I cant be upset with that purchase, but at nearly $1000 less for this I really wonder if I would have been happier and better off with two of these. I could also just buy one now, and a second later on to soften that upfront purchase cost. Also as far as 50A, the Genmax is like ~30A so parallel its beyond 50A and cant use all the power, feels waist full if for any reason just one was not enough. But two of these is going to put you really close to a proper 50A output. Just seems to fit what I wanted to do personally better. P.S. Also whats up with only a 2 port Parallel on this? Shouldn't a 240v have 3? (Plus Ground for 4 total) I cant find a ready made kit for this generator by the manufacturer. Edit: Found it its the PK12000 Parallel Kit for this guy, though I do not actually see where to buy it, and its 50A but only 120v... So I think that answers my question I just asked about missing the 3rd connection for Parallel, and with that alone I would have to go for the GenMax over this model.

I just bought this generator as well. Can't go wrong with Costco, as they'll take it back if anything goes wrong. So far, I've only powered the RV partially, but its possible this thing will run both A/C units on my RV, don't know. My biggest concern, is that if this thing has a carburetor, I will want to only use non-ethanol gas in it, but I have yet to look into that and call the support. I've had (well) enough with the damage that lousy ethanol causes to my engines. I like it so far.

I wont steal the hosts thunder and get detailed but for those that are asking, my experience is that the generator supports a sustained load of 2800W on each leg of it's 240V total output (running gasoline). So if your input cable is just a 3 wire type for 120V 30A then you have 2800W (23A) only to work with. If you have access to all 4 wires (2 hot, 1 neutral, 1 ground) then it supports 5600W total across both hots. So you will need the correct hookup to take advantage of all the wattage. It also gets very thirsty of fuel with a single leg near max load so bear that in mind.

Hi Gavin. The Manager Oscar Orosco in California (Tech.Service) replied to me stating that when it transitions from Propane to Gasoline, it remains at the Spec. 3 THD Total Harmonic Distortion. He said it was tested quite a bit and no damage occurred to any sensitive equipment. When you can, can you do this test to see if this is factual. Also to see the Sine Wave Specification when it runs out of fuel. Thanks Gavin for all you do for your fans. All the best to you, Mike ienuso.

I just received the 2023 version of the GXS7100iRD. The main difference that I can see is the 2023 version has the same control panel as the GXS7600iRD (120V/220v switch added). You make a great point about the oil. My sticker for the oil level is the same as what you showed (.7L/23.7oz) and the bottle that came with the generator is 23.7oz.. The manual shows .7L/24.7oz. .7L is 23.7oz not 24.7oz. As you mentioned, be careful on how much oil you add.

Hi, Gavin, first time poster, have been binge-watching your stuff :) and it got me cracking on doing a whole house audit of energy needs. I have a Champion Dual Fuel 9375 that was the last one I could find between OKC and Dallas...in Royse City during the Big Event a year or more ago when my 13 year old Generac gave a loud boom and died, lol. In any case, it was all we could find and I drove down there immediately and grabbed it and had no option with regard to finding an inverter at the time, so...FF to now and I am concerned about our very old refrigerator (11a startup-1.40 running), new microwave, old plasma tv (385-450w running, getting a new one of about 85w), and two computer rooms pulling about 210 w in one and 150w or so in the other, furnace is 110v (up to 800w startup then 330-350 running), and two small chest freezers that pull minimal watts when running, didn't get the startup watts yet. ANYWAY, the most important discover I made is my Bryant 3.6 ton unit which pulls about 16a to start then levels off to 11, and it has a 30a fuze outside although the breaker is 50. I think this means I don't even need to bother with a Micro-Air Easy start, right? Leaving out that I want to roll out my current Champion and get in an inverter gen, anything 6500 or higher running, even with NG, should power my needs I am thinking? Even something like this one, lol. Sorry for the wordcount, now that the A/C doesn't required the easy start I have a little more cash to play with, lol.

Hey Thanks for watching my channel and subscribing, I hope all is well. I know you have the ability to start the ac without the soft start but just think of when all your essential loads are being powered by the generator and the ac tries starting that’s when the soft start comes in handy. Inverter technology is the only way to go with all the sensitive appliances that you have. Sounds like you are on the right track with your setup, I think you’re doing great 👍🏾 figuring out what your budget and power needs are.

@@GeneratorReviews Appreciate your patience wading through all that wordiness, lol, I drank wayyy too much caffeine yesterday. I have been trying to find a gen where the engine was built not in China and it looks like possibly Generac, Kohler and maybe Honda are the only ones? (wincing) I really like the Champion although my Generac from Lowes 14 years ago (Briggs motor) was perfect for all those years, that seems to be a perfect endorsement for staying with Generac but having trouble finding an invert gen from them at the moment. Based on your experience is there one of all the MiC engines you would trust most for longevity? I should probably go for a Generac small permanent install but even though the version for my house is offered at 3295 around here they charge 2k install and permits, etc.

I would like to know if it is safe to use this Generator with a/c and if it is safe with other *domestic equipment sensitive to voltage fluctuations. It would be very helpful for everyone since the planet earth is undergoing many changes and we all need different alternatives like this generator with two sources of generation such as propane gas and gasoline. But! at the end of the day you have the last word when making an explanatory video. People that buy the Honda do it because they're going to use it a lot and they want it to last. People that buy these Chinese generators of questionable quality do so because they're not going to use it much. A typical Honda May last thousands of hours... A typical clone will last a couple of hundred hours. That may be perfectly fine for somebody who uses it a few times a year for a few dozen hours. As a general rule when it comes to engines Honda has no equal. The devil is in the attention to details. All these engines in all these generators and power equipment are clones of Honda engines but they are not made and quality controlled the way Honda does. Parts are indistinguishable to look at but they are not the same. You get what you pay for. And you do not get what you do not pay for. Honda commmands a premium for all of its Small engine products.... They are simply the Best they are made and engineered to actually work and last. The cost is always a tough pill to swallow, but if you depend on it it's worth it.

Honda is the best of the best, one big difference is Fuel Injected not carbureted. If I was using a generator at a job site every day, and this was a tool for making money I think I would get the Honda, but for occasional use or emergency use. Yeah this would be where I would go.

Also just another comment in general for your videos. I'd like to see how much louder 2 vs 1 is so say a 4500w generator making 55DB and a 9000W generator doing 60DB, how much louder is it when you add a second generator in parallel. Is the net gain/loss of running two smaller generators in parallel actually creating more noise and/or using more fuel than a single larger unit? In general how does a larger unit like 9000w do with small loads of say 2000W vs a 2000W generator nearly maxed out. Not run time as fuel tank size is so different, but just the actual amount of fuel used. Trying to mentally map out the absolute best case for gas/power ratio and power/noise ratios and use that to help decide if two smaller generators or one big one is the better idea. I am assuming the smaller generator will win in fuel just due to the smaller motor, but the bigger generator running at a lower RPM will probably win in noise, and two smaller generators running together, I am going to assume maybe 3 or 4DB louder than a single unit.
@GeneratorReviews

@@GeneratorReviews I'd say that video did a good job of answering most of my questions. I expect a repeat of the same concept with 2x4500w vs a 9000w except maybe the noise will be a bit different because your not using the super small units. I'd say its worth repeating only if you want to cover some new ideas not yet covered. Parallel Tests: A Sound test of 1 vs 2 for the same generator to see how much noise is added by turning on the 2nd unit with the same load. As your running a 2nd motor, but it will run at a lower RPM with the 2nd turned on. Single Generator Tests: A fuel efficiency test. Say 1/2 gallon of fuel in a 4500w and a 9000w and a few different tests. How long does it take to run out of fuel at say a 1000w, 2000w and 4000w load to test and see if the smaller engine is always more efficient, or if there is a point where getting near the upper RPM limits starts to take away efficiency and a larger unit running at a lower RPM can actually be more efficient. After that can repeat the tests with the two smaller generators in parallel with only 1/4 gallon each to see how this effects efficiency running two instead of 1. I think those are all good experiments worth exploring. Personally I was only looking at 2x Smaller Units if they could run parallel with 240v, that seems to be really hard to find, so that forced me to get the single larger unit anyways.

After an hour, I shut it down with intent to get back to it later and test some loads. When I did, low idle was ok, but when i turned off low idle, the overload feature tripped ??? I simply could not get it to resolve. Anyhow, A-IPower is sending me a new one, and we'll see what happens. This might be one you should profile. Very very quiet. I was surprised... P.s. do these propane generators use a standard propane grill regulator hose size ?? The one they sent with unit was cheap..

Gavin, after watching a lot of your videos, I've come to consider you the expert on generators, so I look forward to the complete test of this gen. Living in SW Florida, we just had Ian and we were out of power for 4 days. Irma had us out for 12 days. Ian was not a problem for gasoline, but an Irma type storm we would be out of gas, and propane. How would you prepare for that type of storm outage using 2 gens linked. Bigger propane tank would be farther away from the 2 gens, what king of link up?. Storing gas would also be an issue. Look forward to your advise. J

Apparently there's no fuel shut off so difficult to run the carburetor low for storage? Fuel tank is pretty small at 3.6 gallons for this size generator but if your main goal is to run it on propane that may be okay for some. The price point is very attractive.. might be able to work around the shortcomings. Also, how many amps are available at 120 volt on 30 amp plug ..for the RV plug? I have 3500 watt generator which gives me 30amps at 120 volt on that plug but a lot of bigger generators... May only give you 20 amps available on that plug.... Less than a smaller generator. My generator has two15 a 120 coils that are put in parallel to provide that plug , when it's in 120 volt mode. When it's in 240 volt mode they each provide one side of the 240 volt plug. Some of the larger 120 / 240 generators do not do that especially the inverter ones ... They limit the 120 volt plugs to only one side of the 240... And they actually can give you less power for your RV than a smaller generator. This is really insane and shows that they don't know what they're doing when they design the generators. Then it gets confusing because many schematics on inverter generators do not show a breaker on the high amp plugs at all... They just may rely on something internal in the inverter for them.... or the motor bogging down
@kylecrane4376
@kylecrane4376 Жыл бұрын
At 2800W on one leg of the 2 120V circuits it begins to flash overload but keeps running. At 3000W it will shut down the output in under 1 minute. So you have about 22 to 23A available on the 30A plug in reality. To get the full wattage you have to spread the loads over both inverter outputs (both hot wires).
@duskyman1
@duskyman1 Жыл бұрын
@@kylecrane4376 thanks. Thats somewhat dissapointing if you want to use for RV with a single RV plug. I don't think the Chinese understand the US RV market..... And many of these generators are just mass produced Chinese models you can buy off of Alibaba and put your own stickers on them if buy enough ~100. The prices on Alibaba are only a few hundred dollars per unit . I suspect even the champion 7000 I recently ordered will only give 29.2 amps on one side.... But that's okay I bought it for home back up. Still seems sad when my 20-year-old 3500 generator puts out 30. It just seems like the companies are misleading people with an RV plug, and/or really don't know what they're doing. If you have a larger RV with the 50 amp 240/120 plug that's fine. That plug operates as two 120 volt circuits with neutral. and the RVs are usually split for half to go to one ac circuit and half to the other ac... So you would get most of the power. Probably more than you need.

what is eco mode compared to regular running mode? what is gainned and lost in kw?
@GeneratorReviews
@GeneratorReviews 2 жыл бұрын
Eco mode lowers the rpm of the engine, more than tripling your fuel economy. Nothing is lost in power. The generator automatically increases the RPM as the power demand rises. Just think if you have Eco mode off, and you just powering a small television and refrigerator, there’s no need for generator to be running outside wide-open throttle, wasting fuel, with an inverter generator the engine matches the load automatically.
