Hey folks! If you're looking for the PoE adapter, this is the one Amazon links on their page: amzn.to/42Ko3bj (Amazon affiliate link) It's expensive, but that's the type. I put the full specs in this video though. So you can buy any PoE adapter that meets the specification and it will work.

This seems like an obvious option, so I'm guessing it's been considered. I wouldn't be surprised if a different version comes out down the road if there's enough interest, and I was also thinking perhaps at least a larger size option. Also can see some 3rd party companies come up with some type of battery stand for it, like I've seen for Echo dots.
@chrisskinner64837 ай бұрын
I'd imagine there will be a 3rd party battery pack accessory very soon. It would take almost zero development. it's just 5v 2.4 amp. So a battery cradle combo would be super easy to implement.
@dvwebster7 ай бұрын
I think battery power for such a hub device is very unlikely since you will want the various radios in the Echo Hub to always be powered. That way your connected smarthome devices don't stop working if the battery goes flat.
@chrisskinner64837 ай бұрын
@dvwebster can't really say without knowing the actual consumption in wattage. A charging cradle/base with a battery capacity of 4-8 or more hours would sell I think? Live on the base most of the time but also serve as a baby monitor, who knows. People put batteries on dumber things;) that's only 12.5 watts. A pack 1/4in thick that matched the back of this would easily be 30,000 mAh. . Enough to power this thing for 8 hours.

My first reaction was: "Finally! At last, I no longer have to sit in my easychair and tell Alexa what to do! At last, I no longer have to pick up my cell phone to use Alexa to create new routines! Instead, I finally can control my house by repeatedly simply jumping out of my chair all day/evening and strolling across the room to stare at the wall and use my fingers to poke around at this frame stuck on the wall to add new devices, to issue commands, and to create and modify my routines! What a breeze! What an improvement!" I am grateful for all the new features and arrangements and connectivity, but why this thing on the wall? Is this just to satisfy the hobbyists who have been complaing about the lack of a wall-mounted device? Is this just to sell another piece of hardware? If so, why couldn't the standard model have been the tabletop design and the extra cost one been for those lusting for a wall-mounted device? And why not an option to make at least the software functions available as an app on our computers and tablets, and sell the hardware portion available separately?

Thanks so much, Brian. FINALLY, something interesting from Amazon. I had no idea this was coming out, but might have to get one during their next big sale. I still find that in some cases, Alexa Routines do things I'm not able to do easily in Homekit. I now see videos popping up on this device from some of your YouTubing peers, but had to watch yours first. Thanks again, Brian. I predict, though, that once Amazon gets these things in general distribution they'll decide to start feeding ads...something I find so annoying on the Echo Shows.
@AutomateYourLife7 ай бұрын
I really hope they don't do that Hugh. It's such a benefit to have this quiet display in my home. Amazing actually. But yeah! This is a GREAT sign of things if this is what Amazon's doing in 2024. A few more features, and this one might just hit all the right notes.

No Z-wave....deal breaker. OK if you are completely into Amazon ecosystem but for Z-wave devices a second hub needed.

Brian, you are wired to Amazon/Alexa. Do you think that Amazon will load the Hub firmware on the Echo Show 15 screen so we can have a larger Hub?
@AutomateYourLife4 ай бұрын
I think eventually this format will come to many devices in Amazon's lineup. Absolutely.

After watching this video I went to Amazon to see if it was available in my region to order it. Yes it was. Back in October when they first announced this product they offered a trade in. I sent back my old Echo show 8, and would get a 25% discount when I order the HUB which was available soon. 9th of October confirmed received. Now tried to use the discount and its not available having just spoken to various Amazon people the discount was only valid in the quarter I received it so Q4 last year. It was never mentioned it was a limited offer as I did it to purchase the HUB which now finally after 4 months delay is available. Nice one Jeff...
@AutomateYourLife7 ай бұрын
So how do you use your 25% discount? They have your Echo Show 8 right???
@garyhenderson93037 ай бұрын
No I sent back the Echo Show 8 Gen.1 to get a general 25% discount on the purchase of the HUB (they call it Trade-In). As it took Amazon another four months to launch the HUB the discount is no longer valid.@@AutomateYourLife

Me too, mine shows as "active" in my trade in account too.... Very annoyed. I am in the UK and the product page still shows the save 25% offer as well.

Sorry to hear this Gary. Something seems off to me. I hope you both @alanmarshall101 and @garyhenderson9303 get your deals and your trade in. Seems odd that they would take the Echo Show back and then not give you some kind of credit. Something's gotta happen there.
@dvwebster7 ай бұрын
Try adding the Echo Hub to your basket then proceed to the checkout page. I think you should see the 25% discount applied to the final amount to be paid. This worked for me today.

Have you noticed any difference in responsiveness when pulling up a camera/doorbell live view? I have Eufy cameras and a lot of people online said they had reliability and latency issues when opening the live view on their Echo Show 8/15/etc. Is it noticeably quicker on the Echo Hub?
@AutomateYourLife5 ай бұрын
I see no speed improvements. Most of the speed is driven by the vendor and their ability to integrate with Amazon's backend. Also, the amount they pay for that speed/service.

What would be great and maybe you can get the word to Amazon is that if I can locally control my Samsung SmartThings hub through my Alexa hub in other words without internet that I can control on my echo hub screen Z-Wave and zigbee devices when the internet is off if they can somehow connect locally the Alexa hub to the smart things hub. I don't know if you're picking up what I'm laying down because when the internet is down I can't access my smartthing hub through my phone just a manual switches in the house but since the echo hub does not lose connection when Wi-Fi is off maybe it can locally control my SmartThings hub
@AutomateYourLife7 ай бұрын
I know what you're saying! But...both companies are well aware of the benefits of local control and sharing this kind of control. However...we aren't there and I doubt we will see it anytime soon, if ever. Doesn't mean I won't try with them many times...cause I will!
@AutomateYourLife7 ай бұрын
And truly, your ST Hub doesn't lose connection to Wifi or your home network when your internet goes down. Just the app. So make local automations and they'll still work on SmartThings. Just not the app
@allenlavaty86277 ай бұрын
Yes you're correct When the Wi-Fi is down I can still use my switches and all my Z-Wave devices and automations still work from my curtains to my blinds and everything else My motion sensors as well. It would just be cool if Internet was down and I can still control all those Z-Wave devices and zigbee devices with my Amazon hub when there's no internet. 😊

I don't know right now sorry. I know in the past I've connected by Bluetooth and done some playing between the two. However, I don't know how reliable or permanent that would be. If you have an Echo (or better yet) an Echo Show, try it out and see how it works. This works the same. :)

I just checked on Amazon to see if there's already add ons or 3rd party devices yet, and saw a few types of frames you can add (wood, metallic, etc.). No black, but I'd expect one to come; it also showed an example of taking a white one and matching it whatever color your walls are. Not ideal, but interesting they're considering that option, especially matching wall colors.
