@@1handedtyper I watched Preston's video requesting submissions and felt inspired by the brief. So I took those notes and just wrote as much high-quality text as I could, structured as a rough draft. My submission was very different from the final product, and not nearly as well polished, but I can see where some of my ideas have had some influence, which is neat. I sent an incomplete chapter as I ran out of time to work on it, but I was keeping in mind that Preston had said quality is much more important than quantity. I also added some notes for clarity, or to indicate what I was going for with the overall structure and theme of the chapter. I would advise that if you're thinking of becoming a contributer, do it! Just make sure that you watch and listen carefully to the briefs, and work hard on the quality. I'm going to contribute further in the future if I can!

Marwyn took Gilly because she's keeping some of the kingsblood on the boat fresh by feeding the prematurely named Aemon Battleborn milk. Plus, if you stumbled upon a boat which would take you to Meereen that also had two sources of magic power, you'd get it to set sail sharpish so no time to get rid of the people currently aboard!

What's up with those dead guards (the Naathi twins)? a) why did the Fishwife get the weights wrong and b) why are they both dead, since one of them should've been underdosed, and the other overdosed? The Fishwife is one of Edric Storm's loyal men - is he working on behalf of the Stannis/Edric cause? Like, is he trying to sabotage the Hightowers' deal to get ships (I thought the deal already went through?) The Hightowers themselves are tied to both Baratheon causes: Lord Leyton's wife is a Florent (like Stannis' wife and Edric mother), and Tommen's wife Margaery is a granddaughter of Lord Leyton (probably not via the Florent wife, though). So its maybe a toss-up if someone loyal to Stannis/Edric would try to sabotage or assist the Hightowers? The Fishwife also screwed up the Unsullied names at the gate (calling Brown Bat "Grey Gnat") - so is he completely incompetent, or is he deliberately trying to sabotage Dahan's plot... in which case, why wouldn't he just tattle to Tregar for a nice reward? Any ideas?

Lewys has no interest in keeping the guards alive. If they can't talk they can't tell anyone that he was the one who poisoned them. So he lies about their sizes then mixes the wine all together so both flasks contain a fatal dose. Then he hopes it looks like an accident to Dahan (maybe claiming the guards were changed) so he can still collect the other half of the payment the following day.

The power balancing of the candle may be an issue. With warging Martin clearly was very stringent with power. In that humans could not be warged even by a master. The only exception is bran, who is already established to be exceptional, and his target was an easy one. Even then, he cannot access hodors innder self or thoughts. So it seems quite a jump that with a candle, people with no magic genes, can travel any distance and look into possibly anyone’s mind, within a few weeks or months of practice, can read all thoughts, dreams and influence them. It creates To many problems. Eg, just go straight to the kings, and influence them to stop the war. Sam was concerned about the Hightower girl, why not go into the mind of her captor and attack him. Or go into her mind to tell her information to help her escape since a candle user has clairvoyance . Also they commented that they are afraid of the iron born. Why not enter the minds of the leaders, or the soldiers to send them mad or mislead them , shout at them paychicly , make them guilty etc. I think Martin will have thoughtup more limitations

You’re mistaken with warging. The limitations of warging are social norms rather than the power itself. If Varamyr had been healthy and Thistle not, Thistle was strapped down with a mouth guard , or Thistle had been in any other way a “broken man”; Varamyr would have possessed her. Warging humans just takes practice and/or a weakening of the victim. Ramsey (Stark) Bolton is Brandon’s son with Barbary Dustin, wed with no witnesses at the Weirwood. (Dustin is the young pregnant girl in the black water in Bran’s vision.) Dustin gave the baby Ramsey to the Miller’s wife to have Ramsey raised with Stark’s enemies. I say all that because Ramsey is a warg, like his father was. The various people named Reek (original, (Ramsey), Theon, and Rob Stark[long story, he’s still alive pale pink cloaked Ramsey captured him after stabbing him in the ”heart”. “Stoneheart” doesn’t know where the heart is]) who have been made into “broken men” are able to be warged. This is why Ramsey will defeat Stannis, since Ramsey can look through Reek’s eyes and Reek is looking at the battle plans. As for Glass candles, I agree Preston is probably not limiting them enough. They operate like if you mixed “the Oracle of Delphi” gas leak and memory crystals from the Superman movies together. It needs to be on a gas deposit to work; that is why the flame is unmoved by breeze, gas light for gaslighting is the joke. It’s metaphorically a gas lit magic lantern for recording and projecting images, thematically like the animation the “Wizards” were in part was the inspiration for Marwyn, the character Avatar. You can only show things that have actually happened to others while you yourself are asphyxiating, hence blue lips hint (not just from drink).

So Sam is clearly an inside kid, his dad wanted a son and heir who was more bold and determined, so the dad had Sam bathed in Aurochs (basically Cow) blood. Sam did not enjoy the experience, the traumatic memory of the bath seems to come up when the Glass Candle connection starts faltering. They Frey clan politics is really starting to interest me too, I’m hoping for some more development on the different factions

great chapter! Loved it how you occasionally smeared Sam's thoughts into the bravo's, showing that he's new at this glass candle thing and doesn't know how to fully separate himself from his target. The "Mole" that the sealord had, was that supposed to be the "Mother Mole" that was supposedly at Hardhome? The age seemed about right. Why couldn't Sam use the glass candle though to see inside the palace? Even if he doesn't speak their language he can still hitch a ride in somebody's thoughts and watch as they walk around. Great chapter though, credit to Preston and the writers/editors for putting together my favorite chapter so far.

I don't think it was really intentional but I see Sam going from a member of celibate guardians to screwing things up for love as a parallel to Anakin (Jedi/Sith trope) 3. If you screw something up unintentionally you will get a clap and a "Bravo" where I'm from, so the title of the chapter has a double meaning to me. Great work!!

Wow! I always use Newpipe for anything KZbin because I hate ads but I can't write comments there so I purposely dug up the original app just to say that was incredible! Huge props to everyone involved, this was a truly George chapter all the way to the last word. Absolutely incredible work! Love the twist, love the way the glass candle works, love how Sam misuses it for personal goals, love the blended minds and thoughts. Amazing. 10/10!

Really enjoyed the use of the glass candle and how it referenced Bran’s experience with the 3EC, and how it offered an explanation for the experience of many characters suspected to be influenced by glass candle wielders.

Great opening, fascinating description of glass candle . I’ll be interested to hear how you cope with how overpowered it is. Eg, why don’t the Nightwakers look into the minds of the others in heir group, to find their secrets? I think if Sam had the glass candle , he would look directly to the Others, or across the sunset sea.. Can’t he just look further and further north until he gets to the heart of winter?

My thinking is, Sam thinks about how some minds are harder to invade than others, some are too "complicated" etc. It's probably way harder to go into the mind of someone who is as aware of the glass candle and its capabilities as the other Nightwalkers are. They would recognize what is happening to them.

He ( and the writers) is already laying ground for that in the text. The mind invasion thing can be very OP and destroy characters if we learn retrospectively that their decision weren't really theirs. So far prestons has established that: You have to spend a lot of time to enter one persona consciousness and they have to be impressionable, same gender as you and resemble you in character. And it seems there is a distance issue and it can only be used at night.

Maybe they weren't planning but they wouldn't hesitate to take advantage when Sam chose to leave her there. It really can be difficult to predict what direction George will go with any one decision. I've still enjoyed the thought and effort that has went into everything so far even if I disagree with something along the way.
