The Break Down: SaGa Emerald Beyond

SaGa is easily Square's most bizarre franchise, with a fascinating history and some inventive mechanics developed over decades of entries. 17 worlds worth of narratives and exploration and 6 campaigns and main characters mean quite a lot of content to experience. The combat is one of the most complex turn-based battle systems I've seen, and carries the game far on its own, especially when combined with the interesting party member mechanics. If you're in the mood for a budget JRPG and are ok with the shortcomings that entails, I think it's well worth jumping into this one, but be ready for an odd take on traditional RPG ideas.

The way you explained this game made me way more interested in it than I was. Curiosity brought me to the video and now I have it on my wish list. I've dabbled in SaGa games, Romancing SaGa 3 and the remaster of Minstrel Song but am guilty of not finishing either (yet).

Saga Frontier, SaGa 2(FFL 2), and this are the best games in the series.

The skill and stat system reminds of The Legend of Legacy on 3ds. I'm not a huge fan of those systems, I guess I like seeing the xp numbers go up lol

The Legend of Legacy and Alliance Alive are made by a bunch of SaGa developers! Those two and The Last Remnant are kinda where Square put their SaGa weirdos when the series was dormant.
