I believe the official terminology for compressors you can't work on are hermetic. But you probably already knew that.

Whenever I come to a call and the breaker is tripped, I don’t turn the power on immediately, the first thing I test is if the compressor is shorted to ground. What could happen if you turn the breaker on to a shorted to ground compressor, the terminals could overheat and shoot out and it’s not fun hearing or watching that, sounds like you’re standing next to a firework. Also trane commercial units don’t come pre charged with refrigerant, only pre charged with nitrogen, I asked tech support once why there was no king valve or no factory pre charge and they told me techs in the field were pumping systems down fully causing the coils to explode which explains why there is no factory charge. The person who did the startup should have wrote it down inside the panel of the unit, which they didn’t and I hate when people do that

Trane units don’t have king valves. They have service valves but not king valves. Also, not all Trane commercial units come with nitrogen. A lot of them come precharged like normal.

@@AaronPowellvox oh I meant service valve, what is weird is all of the commercial units only come with nitrogen in them when we get Trane, except for the commercial package units

I googled it and it says 1 year parts 5 year compressor on Trane commercial. I told the customer I would confirm that with the Trane warehouse on Monday

Yeah. I hate the way commercial warranties are. It’s alway less.

@@allanbrito13 that’s probably so. I put a little over 30 tons worth of Trane units in a bagel shop where the outdoor units were 5 stories up on the roof and Trane said that they would not warrant them at all because of the insane amount of lift. Also, people are just rough on commercial stuff because it usually isn’t theirs. They don’t maintain them as much either.
