Based purely on the exchanges of gifts, decorations, and accessories being worn in plain sight, it would have been very hard for them to hide their newfound social connection from the school on Monday. That fact along argues against their going back to the way things were. I hadn't considered your thoughts about them deliberately going back to detention together, but it might have happened, esepcailly if Mr. Vernon doesn't think that their "protest letter" was very cute, and decided to punish them again. Overall, I have always taken this movie as a condensed picture of how a lot of the old social cliques tend to fall apart in the later years of high school, with this story being just one example. In fact, a lot of their "friends" might have been having similar thoughts and experiences at the same time, so staying friends as The Breakfast Club may actually have been the easier thing to do, from this point out. P.S. Since all of John Hughes's films take place in and around the same Illinois town, I've always thought that Brian was the guy who showed Ferris Bueller how to hack into the school's attendance system . . . after Claire introduced them.

IDK what it was like to go to HS in the early 80's before this came out, or much later, such as after the mid-90's. My mom took me to see this movie when it came out in '85, and then I entered HS in '87, so maybe I was the target audience for this film. If so, maybe it worked. I floated between different "cliques" without thinking so much about it. I wasn't the only one, either. I had friends in band who were also in less artsy, more academic pursuits. And maybe those seem to go hand in hand, but sometimes they were also on the football team, and who knows what else. There could be a generational aspect, as well, as Gen X being as abandoned as we are, IDK that we were as likely to be socialized into as rigid a group as those who came before us, and maybe not even as much as those who came after. The point of the makeover has nothing to do with Allison being a sellout. If you pay attention, she doesn’t talk at all for the first half hour, and basically hiding from everyone, with an assumed “keep out” fence around her. Little by little, over time, she opens up more, starting with yelling, “Ha!” when Claire talks about how her parents use her. Then, she empties her purse on the couch and proceeds to tell Brian and Andrew about how her home life is “unsatisfying” and considered running away. Andrew presses to find out what’s wrong, and he gets her to open up and tell him that her parents ignore her. Eventually, she becomes part of the group, and no longer an outcast. She’s not hiding anymore. She has friends. Mostly, she’s made a personal connection with Andrew, and they’ve become close. Lastly, she and Claire have a moment of girl bonding, and she gets the makeover. The makeover was showing that she’s not hiding anymore, behind all the heavy eyeliner and dark clothes, she was ready to be seen. When seeing her, Andrew says, “I can finally see your face. That’s a good thing.”.
@adifferentperspectivewithj44583 жыл бұрын
Exactly. That's what I meant. I think the reason other people find that to be a "sellout" moment is because the black eyeliner and dark clothes weren't necessarily affectations of being lonely or hiding, it was just how she wanted to look. And people just like her felt betrayed by her change at the end. But even if you could say that about her, you could say the same for all of them. As I say, they all go through some type of physical change. And it's up to the audience to decide if that change was permanent. For me, I think it was.

This is a great question and I have always believed they went back to school on Monday and never openly were friends. High School is about peer pressure and what you feel and do is 2 different things. When Brian sees Andrew in the hall, Andrew will give him a nod. But his jock friends will not accept a nerdy geek so the nod is as much as he can give. Claire was just keeping it real when she said nothing would change, as shitty as she sounded. The 5 will always have that bond when they see each other, but impressing your friends is sadly more important when you’re 16-17 years old.

I say that instantly being the best of friends is not the point. The point is that they made an impact on each other. Especially as they reach adulthood and are out into the world, they will always look back and remember. I think they all learned about themselves and from each other that day. It was all for the better. Deep down, Claire is not that stuck on herself after all. She helped Alison and gave Bender the diamond earring. Some would think he deserved a kick in the ass. Actually, he needed to know that he had potential, too. Bender is a bright guy. He's not hopeless and no good, like Vernon thinks. Andrew and Brian got to be heard about their pressures at home to perform well at all costs, what pain it has caused them. Brian couldn't handle any failure, and death seemed a way out. Their worth is all tied up in their performances. So their interactions with each other was a start, to feel that safe to open up when they didn't know each other at all. Allison may seem so freaky, but she longs to be seen and not ignored. To be ignored by her parents was so painful. On top of that, she has no friends. I think she could go far in life if given the chance (like Bender). She's a talented artist, and she is perceptive.

Claire sees this as a new project and excitedly offers to take her shopping (with her parents’ money, of course) and show her how to do her make up (whether or not that happens and what happens afterwards is left up in the air). Andrew has a new found respect for them all, and while his jock clique won’t let him become friends, but he will stand up for the others if he situation calls for it. In a deleted scene while Andrew is getting the drinks for lunch from a vending machine, Allison busts into a teacher's locker nearby and tosses their belongings out before finding the Prince record that we see in the movie while she catches the coke can. If she broke the lock or did not clean everything up then Vernon was going to find out that Allison and Andrew were the ones responsible. Subsequently he may have told Allison and Andrew that they would have to join Bender the next Saturday for detention. It could plausibly happen.This is where my theory ends and wishful thinking begins. So Claire and Brian could learn that Bender, Andrew and Allison were going to wind up back in detention and could have deliberately got themselves in trouble to try to rejoin them. Brian had less to lose because he was no longer an 'A' student and it would not have hurt Claire's popular status. But Vernon may have caught onto their plan and may have asked Claire and/or Brian to do detention after school on a weekday or he may have joined the five of them on Saturday and watched them more closely rendering that Saturday to be less enjoyable for them all. As I'm typing this, I'm realising that it seems like a pessimistic theory/idea.

Ever since I saw the movie back in the 80s, my head cannon was about the movie title. When Brian signs their note with "The Breakfast Club", I think it means that they started noticing each other during breakfast in detention. I think that they agreed that they would meet before school to have breakfast together, and being allowed to just be themselves for half an hour, before society and school starts demanding a certain type of attitude and behavior. On Monday, they meet for breakfast, and then each goes about his or her own way for the rest of the day.

What I think happens on Monday: I think Allison, Brian and Bender talk to each other often. I think it's obvious that Andrew and Claire stop dating, but grow closer as friends as they now understand each other in a way they didn't before. I think Andrew and Allison begin legit dating and Andrew begins to drift apart from the jocks a little bit though still plays sports a little half heartedly, and pick them back up when he's reached a place where he's able to do it for himself and take real joy in it, and he will offer a heartfelt apology to hairy Larry and stop being a bully. I think Andrew will talk to Bender and Brian but not actively hang out with them, and Claire and Bender will hook up in secret for awhile but this will be disaster that turns very ugly, because Bender has obvious abusive tendencies himself and is too insecure to have a relationship. I don't think that Claire strays away from her social group but will begin to notice people she used to ignore and be kinder to people who aren't accepted, then start exploring her freaky side in college and go through an arty phase. I don't think Allison and Andrew's relationship will last but it will be an emotionally significant experience for both of them that changes them both going forward, Allison will open up, find her people and be an awesome adult. I think Bender will have a hard fucking life and have plenty of problems but eventually sort himself out. In the very least, they've probably all friended each other on Facebook by now.

The movie never indicated that Andrew and Claire were dating or had previously dated. Bender was only teasing them about potentially being "steady dates" or "lovers." The two were popular kids, so they ostensibly had many mutual friends (like when Andrew invited Claire to a "party at Stubby's."). At the very least, they had been acquaintances, evidenced byAndrew entering the Library and gesturing to Claire for permission to sit beside her. She shrugs her shoulders as if to noncommittally say, "whatever," or "I don't care." Had they been close friends or boyfriend/girlfriend, Andrew wouldn't have had to ask permission.

It was an interesting theory, I liked it. I think that their friendship depends on how many times they would meet at school at usual. Because if they are in different classes, it is harder to keep a serious relationship alive, and the differences beetween them are obstacles of being friends. But I'm sure that it still can't decline the fact, that four of them became couples. Also, in the end scene Andrew followed Allison with his eyes until she left. I can't imagine that a love like this can be cancelled the ,,next day". So if Claire met with Bender, and if Allison met with Andrew on monday, they wouldn't be ashamed of each other in front of their friends, so Brian wouldn't be either. My question is, could Brian be the part of that team? I think so, they all changed in a positive way.
@Superchick2 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. Definitely Andrew had unofficially taken Allison as a new girlfriend; if even just a casual interest. She took the patch off his jacket, after all. It might end up being an awkward coupling, though, because Allison has spent so much time alone (she, herself admitted, "I don't have any friends.") and without parental supervision, that she has developed awkward habits that are not socially acceptable (playing with her dandruff, cracking her knuckles, and who knows, maybe she even pulls underwear wedgies out of her butt and picks her nose!). Those habits would not magically go away just because there was suddenly a boy in her life, and she would be apt to inadvertently do something or even say something that might be seriously embarrassing to Andrew. Having made his poignant confession to the other kids in the library about having humiliated Larry Lester, Andrew seems to have opened his mind to becoming a kinder human being and not caring so much what his friends say or what his Dad might have to say; e.g., "What the hell are you doing, Son, slumming with that weird girl?" But Andrew has also spent years trying to gain the approval of his parents, his Coach and his friends, so if Allison continues to behave like a manner-less street urchin, that could ultimately embarrass him. As for Claire and Bender, the Princess has obviously developbed a soft spot for the rebel, and she is probably secretly turned on by him, too. Bender will probably encourage Claire to introduce him to her parents (or at least, her Dad, assuming her "poor drunk Mom [is still] in the Caribbean.") as her new boyfriend. Of course, they will be very upset, thinking that their rational, pristine girl has lost her mind. That would be the point, though -- the mission will have been accomplished. If Claire actually starts going out with John on the regular, though, it would be a disaster for Claire. Since he'd already introduced her to pot, he might potentially introduce her to harder drugs like cocaine, which under normal circumstances she never would have tried on her own. He probably would also take her virginity, 'cause after all, he's a hot guy, and why wouldn't she be sexually curious? But John already 'fessed up that he'll never be a one-woman man, so that's not apt to change even though he finds himself dating the prettiest, most popular girl in school. At the very least, Claire will end up with a broken heart. Worst case scenario, she might end up with an unplanned pregnancy, and likely an abortion. Oh, well, I guess we'll never know.

I would think it would actually be the complete opposite. That the point of the film is to show that they CAN be friends, even in an environment when it seems like they can't. Remember, one of the taglines of the movie is, "they only met once and it changed their lives forever."
@watcherwlc534 жыл бұрын
I think it has a lot to do at least for Claire and Andrew, how well or poorly they are getting along with their original group OR how much status they had within it to just do what they wanted. It isn't really clear if Bender is in a group of rebels that would constrain who he wants to talk to, he may aggressively-teasingly approach Allison and Brian wanting to say hello but fearing rejection so acting like a smart ass instead. Claire and Andrew, if they are not already on friendly terms with one another, may become more that way. Whether each of them is willing to keep up their new dating relationships with Bender and Allison also depends on a lot of factors. Also now Andrew may be willing to stand up for Brian if he is bullied. Different school cultures can be more or less rigid depending again on a lot of factors. In some schools the star students have more status than in other schools. In some schools the slimy rebel has more status than in other schools. In some schools the lines are more easily blurred. My point of reference is from growing up in a rural school so small that these archetypal cliques have limited meaning. Different individuals had those qualities but were often as not friends with each other on some level as there simply weren't enough people to make up a clique of like attracts like. I could only observe the larger schools around us when we met for events, and wonder how much happier they were with more resources and more friends to choose from.

I think that they made a HUGE IMPACT on each other. They will NEVER forget that day or each other, even if the interaction does not last. Claire realized that she didn't have to be so self-focused. She is capable of being giving and thoughtful....helping Alison realize she doesn't have to hide behind a certain look, giving Bender the earring... and I say that though he was a jerk to her, she realized he didn't have to be that way. He could be better than that. The kiss on the cheek in that locked room and the gift of the diamond earring was like saying, "I do really get you, deep down. You don't see yourself as very worthy. You are." Bender can understand that he doesn't have to have a chip on his shoulder or a grudge at the world. He is pretty smart and articulate. He is a rebel who is a smart ass with everyone, but that won't get him too far in the world. Nobody expects him to succeed. He also has been told he is no good, from his family, certainly from Andrew Clark and Vernon, surely by teachers and other authority figures. Bender initially made fun of the others, often out of jealousy and feeling rejected, but then you see he really wanted to be included. Detention may also be an escape from a bad home life. Andrew gets a chance to be vulnerable, and this shows he feels safe to do so. He doesn't have to win at all costs. Allison points out that he needs to think for himself. He actually is more of a troublemaker than Bender. He got into detention for being cruel and humiliating that student, but if it was anyone else he would have been suspended. His sport hero status helped him out. That status is a burden to him, though. Surprisingly, he is quite introspective and very remorseful for his actions. We now know that his father pressures him about not being weak and being number one, and maybe Andrew never even revealed this to his own friends before. Like Andrew, Brian also is under too much pressure. Bender makes fun of him for having the ideal home life, but little does he know. In detention, Brian gets to vent about needing perfect grades to be accepted. Failing to make a silly elephant lamp in shop is enough to put him in a tailspin. He also is embarrassed about being a virgin, but Claire shows empathy towards him and says she is okay with it. After all, she is a virgin, too. Brian gets his chance to voice his feelings to others who didn't really have a clue. He also would be a target for being bullied (it could have been him that Andrew targeted) but now there is an understanding how it is too walk in someone else's shoes. Alison doesn't even need to be in detention. She is so weird that she is off putting, and that a role that gets her by in life. But then she goes from not speaking, to saying outrageous things and lying, to contributing to the group session. She is dreadfully lonely, but she is aware and perceptive. Andrew sees her hidden beauty. Claire seems to see potential, too.

I think Claire was already starting to rebel by getting detention in the first place so she could have stayed with Bender. She was already angry at her parents and tired of her friends, so it fits she found a rebellious boyfriend as well. Some of the cool kids got a bit rebellious like that back in the day, it wasn’t unheard of. Andrew was a jock so he could date whoever he wanted. The group wouldn’t have formed their own clique but I think they would have been nice to each other. High school did have cliques but it’s not like you lost your friends if you were just nice to someone. It doesn’t matter, they all reconnected on Facebook decades later either way 😄

I would like to think that they stayed friends, within reason. Each primarily stayed in their peer group, but when one of the others needed help/a shoulder to lean on-they didn't hesitate to be there. Possible group invites go to Brian and Allison to join Andrew and Claire's circle of friends... Bender and Claire continue to see each other (on the sly) until Claire graduates from Northwestern in 1992... Bender ends up dropping out, but returns to receive his GED in 1989-after Vernon actually is fired for decking Bender in a Wendy's parking lot in 1987. From 89-92, Bender works in construction, and mentors at-risk youth (at Claire's urging) Andrew and Allison continue dating throughout the summer, until he leaves for Oklahoma State on that wrestling scholarship. They attempt a long-distance relationship, but it ultimately fizzles out-they part on the best of terms, however... Brian takes his newfound confidence and ends up being the valedictorian for Shermer High in 1986. Claire, Andrew and Allison come back for the ceremony (Bender has sent Brian a dimebag, but told him that he doesn't feel right being there) Brian ends up accepting a scholarship to Georgetown, where he excels as a poli-sci major... After her break-up with Andrew, Allison gets the guts to be honest with her parents. She admits that the psychiatrist story is BS, but she still agrees to counseling. She ends up getting her GED, and enrolls at a local juco, and works at a Chicago blues/jazz club to pay for school. Brian ends up as a semi-regular there (yes, he still has the fake ID) Allison looks out for Brian, even driving him home occasionally after having a few too many. Brian ends up losing his virginity to Allison before his sophomore year in DC-as more of a "tutoring" series, than a desire on her part to be a couple

That's very clever and could very well be accurate. Only thing I would disagree with is that it's subtly hinted that Brian could possibly be gay.

They became close in detention. Doesn't mean they stayed that way when Monday rolled around. While in detention, they didn't have their regular circle of friends to prevent them from forming friendships that would never happen in a regular school setting. Peer pressure would prevent them from staying friendly. Bender would still be a hard ass. Claire would still be with those groups of girls who dressed like they were going to a party...lol. Brain would be with the nerds. Alison would spend her school years being ignored. Andrew would be among the jocks who runs the school terrorizing the ones who aren't jocks. NOTHING would change once Monday rolled around. How do I know? Cause I was in high school during the 80's & I knew every one of these types of kids. They only became friends in detention cause that's what they all had in common for that one day. Once detention ended, they had nothing else in common. No reason to continue being close.

No theories. I agree with your points. I need to watch this film again soon. It was filmed in my time and place. I grew up less than twenty miles from where this was filmed and was in high school at the time it was released. As a writer, I ask these what if questions all the time and I have asked what happened on Monday. I agree that they remained friends, though I am not certain the relationships forged during this Saturday lasted a long time, I'm ever hopeful they did. Agreed. This movie was nicknamed "The Little Chill" when it came out, in reference to the earlier movie "The Big Chill," where a group of adult friends spend a week together facing the separation of their lives from their 60s ideals. In both movies, the point is not really about how they view each other but how they each view themselves. Both gatherings are full of uncomfortable realizations. Claire was right about Monday; Bill Hurt in "The Big Chill" was right that the 60s had "died a long time ago." Both were condemned not for being honest but for saying it out loud, the thing the group already knew to be true and hadn't wanted to admit. But I never thought the ending of "The Breakfast Club" was a sad one: they'd each stepped out of their comfort zones. They each found out they COULD relate to people very different from themselves. If I were thinking of what Monday was like, I'd imagine each of them in their normal groups being told "Something seems different about you, but I can't put my finger on it..." Which is how it ought to be.

Growing up in the 1980s, navigating the social circles, and clics, they were not as heavily divided and segregated as people think. The groups often interacted with each other in different ways. Yes, Jocks and Preppies had higher status, but it did not mean those two social groups just looked down on everyone and excluded everyone. Geeks, Rebels, and Outcasts usually segregated themselves because they were socially awkward and were not forced into clics. More than likely they would talk to each other on Monday, and interact. They might get weird and questioning looks from their friends or social groups, but for the most part the interactions would be viewed as somewhat normal cross clic interaction. Allison might be the one whom shifts out of being an outcast to fit into the Jocks and Preppies, because she might start dating Andrew.

Claire is right. I think we all may have experienced pieces of this in high school here you may temporarily connect with someone you normally would never talk to but the peer pressure that exists and the slaves that most of us were to that dynamic would prevent it from moving forward into anything meaningful or lasting. It was almost an infallible rule that at the end of the day, the geeks would still just hang out with the geeks, the jocks with the jocks, the criminals with the criminals, the weirdos with the weirdos and the princesses with the princesses. Some of that carried over into after high school and college as well although there was much more clashing of worlds there. I don’t see Brian as the glue of the group. More so the weakest of the group. At least from a personality view. Which is why he is trying so hard to convince them to keep it together after detention. He is lonely and depressed and needs and desires strong friends.

Claire is right. While we would want to believe that this one day in detention changed them by realizing what they have in common that is not enough to alter their previous programing. They might nod if they saw each other in the hall but they would not hang out and become friends. They would revert to mingling with their own group because that is their comfort zone. Do you really believe Claire and Bender would be a couple? And it only gets worse as people become adults. The desire to associate with "the right people" intensifies for social and business reasons. That is just the way the world operates whether we like it or not.

And believe it or not I did spend some time in detention, and while the premise of the movie never really happened to me.Threre were different "Cliques" represented in detention, and while we chatted to pass the time, and found out that we all had some things in common while living different lives. It was never a John Hughs bonding moment. We were friends only in detention. Peer pressure within your clique kept you from roaming too far for most people, you would acknowledge those you bonded with but you never openly hung out with them.

I actually think it's nice to consider the possibility of them continuing their friendship. In fact, as far as what they might've done with their lives after they were done with school, I could honestly picture them starting an acapella group, with Claire as the soprano, Andy as the tenor, Brian as the baritone, Bender as the bass, and Allison as the beatbox. 😁

On Monday, Clair and John showed up holding hands, and make out before separating at her classroom. Andrew walks Allison to her classroom and gives her a gentle kiss on the cheek while she blushes and gives him a hug. Brian walks in the hall with his head held high and a newfound confidence, and everyone looks on in shock. Several cheerleaders notice and come up to him. He spends time chatting them up, then happily sprints off to his classroom with a smile, and a few phone numbers. Source: I was Allison. I met them all in detention. I even dated John. I met his absent asshole dad. Princess Claire became my friend after detention and helped me in gym class when I was awkward and other kids treated me like the freak. There were a lot of Brian's. They blossomed and work as CEO's now. I'm happy for them. They deserve everything they have earned. The Princess Clair I knew went on to be a state beauty queen, for real. She married someone like Andrew. They have a few kids, now grown, and one of them was a beauty queen too, just like her mom.

I feel like the connections would slowly begin to show as the school year continues. You can't really hide a connection, like theirs, especially with the romances between 4 of them. Along with that, I think that Brian and Allison might be more open to actively being seen together as friends on that Monday. But I believe that as the year moves forward so does their connection, I agree that they will likely give each other friendly gestures in the hall, but it will lead to saying "hi" and then maybe them meeting up together to work on schoolwork. Eventually they will all become a group and they will become confident enough to be seen as a group at Shermer High.

My interpretation (and this might be reaching a bit) is that they maybe actually gave up their old friend groups for this one. Remember Claire finally admitted she hated going along with everything her friends wanted, and Andy said he hated his Dad emotionally abusing him in wrestling? John’s friend group is no bargain because he’d much rather actually have a friend or relationship with someone like Claire and constantly stuck up for Brian in the therapy scene. Andy, Claire and John are also the only friends Allison and Brian now have anyway. So I think they finally came to terms with, and gained the confidence to stand up for themselves and/or what they really want. Also what would be the point in the group being given the name “The Breakfast Club” if they were no longer going to be a friend group? And what would be the point of Allison and Andy, Claire and John becoming an item at the end? I don’t think they’d simply forget or neglect that, especially Bender which was pretty much his end goal the whole movie. This is where it comes in with your bit about Brian being the heart of the group, another good term could be that maybe perhaps, one was suggesting that he could be the glue that holds them together in one way or another.

I like to think that Clair starts realizing what lousy friends she has if she has to be so afraid of what they think that she can't even be seen with the one guy who tells her the truth about herself and still kinda likes her. Andrew's remorse over what he did to Brian's friend makes him actually start to ingratiate himself with the nerd crowd, and like that he doesn't have to try to impress them with athletics b/c they don't care lol. And what he shares with Allison makes him want to be a person who can think for himself, and that means spending more time with the one girl who likes him for who he really is--thus he learns that that's what being a man is. She, for her part, is happy that she finally has friends, tentative as it may be. That's what makes her so likeable itfp--in my experience the bonds she forms with the others are hard bonds to break, and she's such a feral kitten anyways she's going to keep coming back. Brian will keep saying hi to them b/c he doesn't *really* care about what their friends think and he's just that sort of guy. Bender and Andrew will both feel protective of him, and I see Bender realizing Brian's a cool kid--I was a misfit intellectual loner in hs and I made friends with guys like Bender just b/c they respected me for being who i was and not judging them. That's my analysis.

I am one of those who believe Monday would see the group completely fall apart. The Geek would get ignored. The Rebel and Prince might try to date for a few weeks, but his anger issues and her popularity wrecks the whole relationship. The jock and the outcast will remain together for the rest of the semester, but end before the next year in slow motion. The outcast will end up friends with the nerd for future mental survival. Bender drops out after the breakup, going into construction. The nerd and jock get college scholarships and end up with jobs similar to their parents. The princess marries and drops out of college. The outcast goes to college as an art major, with life ending up either good or bad because her personality is a mixed bag of unknowns.

I always saw the earring and patch as proof of what they had that one Saturday in detention but that it wasn't going to last come Monday. Some characters are more liberated than others- Brian, Bender and Allison could probably hang out with whoever they wanted but Claire and Andrew were prisoners of their social groups. Unless they were willing to risk alienation from those groups, they weren't as free as the other characters to maneuver throughout other social groups.

I'd say they didn't stay friends..but, the film is so special for capturing the one moment they were more than friends. They were beyond their years for one brief moment thanks to them coming together. That Saturday is too special for it to pour out into the following Monday. They accept who they are even after a special moment in time on a Saturday where they shined together for a brief moment which is a special story captured in time by John Hughes

I’m not an advocate in any way for a sequel for The Breakfast Club, but What Happened On Monday would be a great title for that film. I’m thinking any continuing connection those five kids made on Saturday would have to be done outside of school due to the pressures and demands made by the adults and the friends they had in their respective cliques.

@felicityflynn6480 Жыл бұрын
I don't think they would have been best buddies on Monday because they all had routines and most of them had their own crew. However, I think they would have remained on good terms. Like smiling at each other when they pass in the hallway and informing their friends "we made friends in detention. They are really nice when you get to know them". This would have eventually influenced their regular friendship groups to accept the rest of the breakfast club. Andrew and Claire already knew each other at the start of the film, so they would easily become friends. Claire is a group leader in her clique so she most likely could influence them to accept the others - at least partially. Kids can have short memories so I think Andrew and Claire could have involved Alison in their group after Alison's image change. Claire's gang was superficial so provided she dressed correctly for their taste, then they would have accepted/tolerated her. Andrew's gang was very male dominated so they would have just respected that he had an attractive girlfriend. Claire could influence her friends to accept Bender because he is a rebellious bad boy and spun their relationship as glamorous and exciting. Brian was a bit of an outsider even amongst the Breakfast club but because he was a well mannered, high achiever then he may have been able to float amongst the various crews at school. I like the idea that they would start returning for detention on a regular basis. Bender is there every week so it would give him company and much needed stability. Plus it might create problems for the evil teacher who made his life a misery.

As a woman, I pay a lot of attention to the two girls, princess and weirdo. Princess on Monday has to go back to being a snob and submit to all the pressures of snob cliques. Weirdo on Monday could try to gussy up and fit into the clique like in Mean Girls, but she would hate it just like in Heathers.
