💥Donner's cut is far more superior. It actually draws to conclusion the comparison of Superman to Jesus Christ. As God sent his only son to earth to save humans, so did Jo-Rel. Jo-Rel anticipated his son's journey and built in the backup to restore his son's power. As God allowed Jesus to rise again, so did Superman. It was actually very biblical.... tiktoker G.A.TURKS 💪🏾

This is a dope theory, it’s a very Jungian analysis. The characters fitting the archetypes of the higher self and lower self. I like that 👏

I'm with you theatrical cut all the way. I don't know people's obsession with the Donner cut. Of course he was treated badly, but still, his scenes were poorly written, poorly acted, and were just plain goofy. The original theatrical cut was much more polished, and the scenes made sense. Every time I see the stupid scenes from the Donner cut, I cringe and say yeah, this is why these scenes were edited out.

I grew up in the early 2000s and actually had only ever seen the Donner cut until a few years ago. I had a Superman movie collection growing up that weirdly only included the Richard Donner cut, I didn’t understand the difference between cuts and stuff as a kid this was long before I went to film school so I just thought that was the movie and always really loved it. When I did get around to seeing the theatrical version I honestly just felt like it was a “sillier” version of the movie to fall more in line with 3 and 4 I feel like if I had seen that one first the campier element would have grown on me but seeing it second makes the stuff I already love feel watered down. Upon more viewings of it I don’t hate the movie but I still prefer the Donner cut. Makes me really wish they’d do something similar with Batman Forever because apparently there’s a ton of stuff that got cut out of that movie that’s more tonally consistent with the first two. And that’s a movie I loved growing up so I’d be really interested in seeing a more “adult” version.

I think Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (Ultimate Edition) is very much apart of a simple five-film movie arc, that we'll never get to see. I've always heard that Hollywood ain't show-friends, it's show-business from another KZbinr one, Robert Meyer-Burnett. And he's right, unfortunately....The suits at Warners believed they didn't see enough of a return on their investment, which meant that the rest of Zack Snyder's vision was never gonna fly with them. Which was very unfortunate, because Daniel Craig's Bond was allowed to have his 15-year, 5-movie arc with Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, Spectre & No Time To Die. Say what you wish about every Daniel Craig-Bond film. Dude was allowed to finish his arc, 'cause unlike Geoff Johns on the initial cut of 'Joss-tice League.' Both Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson recognized that, even though Quantum of Solace was regrettable, they could adjust their course with the six and a half year wait in-between Quantum & Skyfall. Geoff Johns & Walter Hamada took advantage of a real-world tragedy with Zack Snyder, his family and their daughter/sibling Autumn, to reshape the initial cut of Justice League into something far more 'commercial' for them as a whole.

Thanks for this, I tend to watch Patrick's (and most) videos on autopilot (don't remember if I watched this one though) and you eloquently reminded me not to just accept the arguments of anyone without questioning them just because I consider them an authority on a subject. This extends to youtube essays in general, and it's got me thinking this format/medium really isn't the best one for engaging critically with issues requiring that you reflect on them, as that would require pressing pause once in a while, which my brain won't let me. And now I did the same thing with your video, and wouldn't you know it, I agree with everything you said!

Lester gave us a terrible Superman movie with Richard Pryor being so annoying and a Cyborg woman that looked stupid. The only good scene in the movie is junkyard fight. So don’t praise Richard Lester. He helped ruin Superman. I was,a child when I saw Superman 3. I hated it then and I still hate it now. I have to only speculate what could have happened if things went differently and Donner didn’t leave the franchise. But maybe we wouldn’t have gotten the great Lethal Weapon franchise and Goonies. Donner is a LEGEND and Lester sucks! I do like the theatrical version because I grew up with it but to me the Donner cut is better because I like him more and the villains are done better in the movie. The final fight in the Fortress is better too.

You realize when Superman gave up his powers, he gave up his Kryptonian side. He became HUMAN. Sunlight wouldn’t affect him the same way as before. That is why you have Jor-El giving his power back. He is giving back Clark’s Kryptonian side again. You sound like a fool thinking sunlight would fix the problem.

When alone and nobody was looking they would express friendship but in a group they would be aloof. Peer pressure at that age is intense. Allison was the only one of them immune. Whatever happened she would have been the catalyst.

Both cuts basically blow compared to the first film. Too much of the villains and Superman using their "vision powers" to do things. In addition to starting fires with laser-vision, they all can grab and move people and objects remotely. WTF?

I think the finished Donner version would have been better. The scene where Lois shoots Superman is better written, but poorly acted. The time travel ending likely would have been changed either way if Dinner got to go ish the film. That, I feel is the weakest version of the Donner cut.

We can talk about how mission focused and self-involved Maya was and how she didn’t have a life, but these arr exactly some of the people we need to accomplish some of the most important tasks for the security of our country and the world. Not to sound disrespectful, but if someones work consists of the local grill & chill, you may never know the dedication these persons have or the oath that they pledge and follow. Fact!

Why was she crying? This is a question asked by persons who have never experienced a successful high pressure mission accomplished. All the blood, sweat and energy put into such an important task. By accomplishing this task, she may have saved 10’s of thousands more lives and eliminated a threat to her country. This is an achievement of a lifetime and you want someone or some people just like this to protect you and your country. A lot of work is being done in far away places every day that none of us may ever know. We live better and can sleep better because of this work. We live free because of it.

There are two endings in the Donner cut. Obviously you would prefer the second ending we didn’t see, which is on KZbin, where Zod, Nom Ursa and Lex are turned over to Arctic authorities. The time travel isn’t there with there with the second ending.

I figured they would just go back to the own clicks. The bond was for the moment and by Monday , Claire would be back with her friends and Brian would be studying, Bender would probably have cut Monday, Andrew would be more careful wiht his jokes. Allison on the other hand, would probably have had a moment of being different but prefer the feeling of isolation. I just always felt they went back the same.

I don't dislike Donner's version but I grew up on the theatrical cut and it is my preferred version of Superman II, all the examples you've shown only proved that while Donner didn't like Lester's campy humor his own takes didn't exactly make it any less cringey either. Another thing I prefer is Ken Thorne's arrangement of John Williams' music cues I mean the moment when Clark discovers the green crystal in the FOS that music gives me goosebumps still.

I feel like the connections would slowly begin to show as the school year continues. You can't really hide a connection, like theirs, especially with the romances between 4 of them. Along with that, I think that Brian and Allison might be more open to actively being seen together as friends on that Monday. But I believe that as the year moves forward so does their connection, I agree that they will likely give each other friendly gestures in the hall, but it will lead to saying "hi" and then maybe them meeting up together to work on schoolwork. Eventually they will all become a group and they will become confident enough to be seen as a group at Shermer High.

Sometimes what you think was in the past comes back into your life, round and round again. Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton were supposed to be over, but they weren't. Glad someone else sees there is more in this film. This is not fine art but there is something very ethereal about this movie.

My interpretation (and this might be reaching a bit) is that they maybe actually gave up their old friend groups for this one. Remember Claire finally admitted she hated going along with everything her friends wanted, and Andy said he hated his Dad emotionally abusing him in wrestling? John’s friend group is no bargain because he’d much rather actually have a friend or relationship with someone like Claire and constantly stuck up for Brian in the therapy scene. Andy, Claire and John are also the only friends Allison and Brian now have anyway. So I think they finally came to terms with, and gained the confidence to stand up for themselves and/or what they really want. Also what would be the point in the group being given the name “The Breakfast Club” if they were no longer going to be a friend group? And what would be the point of Allison and Andy, Claire and John becoming an item at the end? I don’t think they’d simply forget or neglect that, especially Bender which was pretty much his end goal the whole movie. This is where it comes in with your bit about Brian being the heart of the group, another good term could be that maybe perhaps, one was suggesting that he could be the glue that holds them together in one way or another.

The Donner cut we never got is the best. And the Donner cut we got is better than the theatrical movie imo. Less campy, more exploration into Kal-El's relationship with his father and FINALLY superman threw a punch we could see. The fight with zod, non and Ursa also way better in the Donner cut we got. That's my 2 cents
