the Breakfast Show - 2023 Ep 57

Coffee and breakfast… that’s all you’re getting in this video. I’ve only been back on the island for a couple of days. It’s almost been a month since my accident and I’m resigned to car camping with the Mini Mate around Newfoundland. I have to start looking at used bikes and find a replacement for my poor old ST1300. This morning I woke up in Barachois Pond Provincial Park. It’s been a damp few days.

Probably your previous vaccines have helped. Hope your taking of the camping left over time. I have one camping trip on my Leasure lite scheduled for thanksgiving weekend . It all ends after that😩all the best to you 👍😉@@OldGuyonaBike

I have a Goldwing and an RT. But for long camping trips I take my old 2008 Toyota Sienna. Cot in the back for naps anytime, tinted windows all around for spending the night anywhere. A 8x8 canopy tent frame and waterproof canvas top and sides - its a one hour build. Everything I need is in boxes that fit under the cot. Its heaven. Electric blanket, 20lb propane tank, buddy heater, a big cooler, coleman stove, 2 tables, 2 chairs. I worry about nothing. 26mpg. Bad weather? No camping, sleep in the van.

I didn't mind camping with the car as it allowed me to caryy my little BBQ but I am looking forward to a long trip with a bike and the Mini Mate next year.

You are right, it's too bad they can't figure out how to put smells on a video, but my mind did a pretty good job creating smells to go with your breakfast. It looked really good. I hope you find a replacement bike soon, my friend.

I'm not too worried about finding a replacement... with it now gtting colder, I took a little pressure off myself and am not rushing my decision. I am already looking forward to getting back out on the road.

The Mini Mate does seem like home. 31 nights this year, 81 last year and another 2 dozen over the two first years. We'll go for a record next year. Smellarama, the next frontier of Virtual Reality.

I was underr the weather for about a week. Did not test but I do suspect it was Covid. Flu-like symtoms and my vaccinations kept it from being worse I am sure.

Got to do a knife sharpening video lol... nothing new but a few that may have not gotten in videos. I discouvered I missed the kilt last year. Really handy bit of kit while camping especially with dealing with shower facilities. Used it a lot this summer.

Good for you getting back on the road at least camping anyway. My wife and I did what you are doing, maybe a wee bit different, but did it. We loved camping/ dam never thought of liquid eggs!! We didn't carry propane Bottle to heavy hard to find places to fill it. No room!! Just done the Coleman stove with the bottle/ ctc anywhere had them. I wanted to tour NFLD but it was Sept/high winds, cold so went back to N.S./and home. I hope you get feeling good and keep posting your videos/love it. Will try and send you a photo of my set up/God Bless and stay safe.

The 5 lb. propane tank is not too bad at 12 lb. weight when filled. I got almost 3 months of cooking 1-2 times a day out of one tank. I usually think of early Sept. as being a good time to ride in NL, but this year, winds and rain have been consistant and now it's tuned quite cool. Hope you get a chance to visit NL for a few weeks in the future. As a former Bluenoser, nothing shabby about visiting Nova Scotia either.

Jim, sorry you weren't feeling well but hopefully you're feeling even better this evening. I was wondering how the motorcycle hunting was going and if you'd mention it in todays video. Glad you did. If possible, it would be nice to see some of the bikes you are considering to purchase. I browse CycleTrader almost daily, just to see what possible deals are out there and are nearby. I had a HD Streetglide, but I found I didn't use it as much as my ST for around town riding. I've seen some early Goldwing's that would make a nice touring bike IMO. Take care and enjoy a nightcap by the fire.

I'm off the road now for the winter I think. I was only feeling flu-like for about a week the first week I was back on the island. I'll discuss bike search in an upcoming video. I think the Goldwing is going to be my answer for a trailer hauler.

I feel naked lol... I won't be without another ride for too long. Season in Newfoundland is winding down so the pressure is off as far as rushing it.

Take your time selecting a new ride. Even though I love my Honda Goldwing 1800 you look like a large or long guy and all my large or long buds can not fit the 1800's .. If the Goldwing interests you check out the 1500's .. much less expensive, parts still available, and I've seen your skills so I know you could handle the maintenance. Best of luck.

I have narrowed it down to a GL1500... have a couple of good prospects and will update the search soon. I'm not afraid to tackle most mechanical work but I don't have a space to really work on anything this winter, so I am looking for something that is sound and ready to go. Maybe before the snow flies!
