I was up late watching my man Anthony Bourdain and season 11 episode 6 has Anton. His sideburns caught my attention and there was this awesome chord melody playing in the background. I pulled his name up on youtube and discovered this band and CANNOT stop listening to them.I am AMAZED and so grateful to have discovered them. INCREDIBLE MUSIC!!!!!!

@Gonz Wouldgo ha! i'm 64 been listenin to BJM for years
@trikkik5 жыл бұрын
I'm 62, and always looking for new good music. BJM is extraordinary. Last year I found them by exploring you-tube, and I CAN'T GET ENOUGH, I can't do a day without them. It creeps through my heart, it creeps through my mind. I'm addicted, for sure. I love 60's hippy-music, I love punk, and since then thers's a gape. But now, BJM really got me. Every album, no exceptations, every single song with movies and paintings on you-tube, keeps on going. Hypnotizing, even when I'm sober. It fills my day, at home, at work, and while I'm driving. No end.
@jgwire5 жыл бұрын
just turned 60. like you, seen and heard it all.......really snobby about music. There. I said it. I stumbled onto BJM five years ago and got sucked into the rabbit hole -- where I remain. Not even loving Neil Young at 13 had as much impact on me as Anton has -- and the weirdest thing is -- i don't know why. I guess cause it's real. Every time I hear this old obscure not-very well recorded song called "Everybody Says" I want to start crying, same with Open Heart Surgery. On Everybody Says, it's the girl's voice. It's almost too much to take, for me anyway. i think that's a good thing. I think it's on Methadrone. With Open Heart Surgery it's that funeral like - weird sloshy drumming and the guitar strumming.... just knocks me out. Anton is a master at taking a bunch of really simple riffs and beat and keys and guitars and orchestrating them into something truly unique. That's his real gift, IMO. I give him a pass on some of this cliched lyrics -- which i wouldn't have done back in the day with other bands -- because like who the fuck cares? Its sounds GREAT! And Like a Rolling Stone has already been done. Oh, and look up their Moshcam concert in 2010 in Sydney on you tube. Perhaps like you, I've seen all these BJM videos many times -- and for me that's the best of the lot from that era, especially Heroin vs Prozac and the last song Hide and Seek. It's really well-recorded and filmed. I don't know this for sure -- BJM fanatics, please correct me if I'm wrong --but I sense this may have been one the first shows he played sober. He is at the top of his game imo, even though at time he looks bored -- but i think he was scared to death -- he'd probably just shake his head and not even remember it. This new version of BJM is as good as any of he classic stuff. Good move, Anton.

love this line up -- wasn't sure at first. especially without dan on drums. but this sounds fantastic and i don't even miss the old stuff. great. job anton.....artist never stay the same....keep changing. your old band was great but they were sounding worn -- especially after those three hour shows during that recent tour...... congrats -Anton -- I know this is important to you because I've heard you say it: No resting on your laurels, but you long ago became an indispensable influence n the AMERICAN MUSIC VERNACULAR -- b/c of your insistence in looking at music as art to make everyday, rather than a commodity to make someone else money.....you've changed my entire approach to songwriting. Lastly, I'm sensing here for the first time in a while that you I really know who you are and what you stand for -- and that you are OK with it -- in general -- what more than you ask for in life?

That's one of Anton's, IDK, trademarks, revolving casts os touring & recording musicians; it seems for various reasons; in that aspect he / they remind me of Massive Attack, more of a musical collective. I mean he has gone to a variety of different countries to collaborate, record, experiment, play local gigs, & full tours.He's the wandering minstrel, the bard, a restless, adventurous pioneer restrained not by convention nor expectation. His / their output is prolific, one of a very few, IMNSHO, (not so humble opinion), TRUE TO THEIR OWN MUSICAL MUSE(S), what is always needed in these utterly disgusting socio-politico-economic times of utter corporate oligarchical fascism are CREATIVE ICONOCLASTS to entertain many, potentially light some kind of a way , or spark an actual original thought / prime a fuse for a few's focused constructive action. Or whatever you think, whatever the music says to you, like maybe I just like the beat & those Stonesy cum Beatlesesque rhythym guitars; he definitely pays homage to his wide variety of roots yet makes al of it, pretty much, ALL his own highly original compositions & arrangements. Me. I like the shoe-gazey stuff that critics often seem to dislike; but I also LOVE LOVE and Spacemen 3, Dead Can Dance, Massive Attack, some of Radiohead (always live), most of U2, Shriekback ( Barry Andrews unheralded genius) Morphine (same with Mark Sandman RIP) , I adore Steely Dan, Worship everything King Crimson, Robert Fripp, much of Eno, John Wetton, ELP (RIP Keith & Greg), original Sabbath (the 1 & only TRUE metal), Meat Beat Manifesto (Jack Dangers is pretty much a genius). I can go all day & night / think I will / just not here / now. God Bless all you true aficiandos !!! And connoisseurs !! BTW I've seen every one of these musical humans LIVE multiple times EXCEPT the Spacemen Oh yeah AND everything Pink Floyd. All that's related & connected; Saw In the Flesh tour in So. Cal. (outdoors at Anaheim Stadium, all of Animals & Wish You Were Here (WYWH,note for note perfection), incl. Money as a 20 min. encore which was a shite choice IMNSHO) !st live performance of The Wall in USA at LA Sports Arena

Here are proposed lyrics to the album version of "We Never Had A Chance", corrections welcome! you feel love, well you better love yourself be careful now because love is against the law but you're so high you can give a fuck, give a shit about the law it's worth your blood sweat and tears to be living at all you bought the lies, everybody tries to tell you you're dead it flies before your eyes before anybody has said the motherfuckers never stopped drilling holes in your head you want life, oh but then you die so slow hands up drop your gun shot you dead and that's the whole of the law you close your eyes to look at the lies but then you've seen it all the freeest frame lasts forever but the picture is small this is love, it's everywhere, and that's the damnest thing it's in your eyes, and butterflies, and part of everything the cloudy skies, the fog in your eyes, that will not let you sing a chance to fall and give a call, and grab the magic ring don't be surprised when you wake up and they tell you you're dead or find that hope worth saying there's nothing at all the motherfuckers never stopped drilling holes in your head and maybe now as you're starting to sing you wake up and remember the words to the song maybe now as you're starting to sing you wake up to discover you're singing along

The various live versions I've heard had variant lyrics in places, for example: "You wake up and remember I wrote you this song"

This is great music, love each show and the mood it puts me in. Makes me want to take a long road trip windows down smoking cigs and just losing track of life.
