I trained at the Gracie Academy in L.A. (Torrance) about ten years ago and was in the same classes as Brian Ortega. He was a scrawny teenager back then but he was getting a rep in class for his triangles. I think he just got his blue belt around then, can't remember. But he couldn't have been more than 130lbs then. Rener and Ryron (and sometimes Ralek) Gracie were our instructors. I saw that Rener corners Brian now. I just came across that Brian is doing MMA so this is quite the surprise. Good for him.

Amazing story. The best part is that Ortega is passing along this gift to others. What the mind can "conceive and believe" it can achieve, but at the early stage of his career his mind could not conceive and believe, his two coach passed in his mind these two gifts and thus the result is his life being elevated. I saw this mindset in McGregor, but money took over McGregor's mind and he lost his way. Money is important, but don't let it rot your mind... Stay humble.

Saw a fight with Brian where I believe he was losing the whole fight, but managed to pull a wicked submission toward the end of the 3rd round. Watching that fight and his interview afterward - really appreciated that. Not everybody's got the toughness to stay in there and figure out a way to pull it out. This story just amplifies that respect even higher - for Brian, but also Rener and Danny.
