Shemot - “Names” Exodus 1:1-6:1 In the first Torah portion of the book of Exodus, the children of Israel have multiplied in Egypt, making them great in number and strength. However, a Pharaoh has come to power that does not acknowledge Joseph and what he had done for Egypt in the time of great famine. Feeling threatened, this wicked ruler enslaves the Israelites, treating them harshly and ultimately in-structing the midwives of Israel to kill all male babies at birth. Of course, they do not comply with this horrific order, leading Pharaoh to take matters into his own hands, throwing all the male ba-bies into the Nile. One child is saved, the son of Yocheved and Amram of the tribe of Levi. This child is placed in a basket and then into the Nile, watched by the child’s sister Miriam. The basket finds its way to the daughter of Pharaoh, who takes the child into her care to raise as her own, naming him Moses. Miriam, who approaches her, suggests Yocheved as a nurse for the child, secretly reuniting him with his mother. Later in life, Moses witnesses an Egyptian cruelly beating a Hebrew and kills him, forcing Moses to flee Egypt. Finding himself in Midian, he stands up for a group of women at a well and is taken back to their camp to meet their father Jethro. Marrying Tsipporah, one of the women, he be-comes a shepherd of Jethro’s flocks. One day, while tending his flock at Mount Horeb, God appears to Moses in burning bush, in-structing him to return to Pharaoh and demand the release of the Israelites. Aaron, his brother, is appointed as his spokesman and together they bring this good news to elders of Israel. Pharaoh refuses however and increases the suffering of the Israelites. Moses protests to God, but is given the promise that redemption is near. ******* *More Information* Want to learn more? Blessings. The book of Jasher (Yashar) expounds on the story of exodus a bit more. I know this is an extra biblical book But it is quoted 3 times in the Torah. If you have humility then you will have an open mind to understand. 🙏

Wait, are you saying Moses was born a few years after Joseph died. What about the 400 years ? Thanks
@AlmondHouseFellowship22 сағат бұрын
*Here is one theory:* According to some calculations, Moses was born 64 years after Joseph died. *Explanation:* - Joseph died at the age of 110 years old. - Moses was the great-grandson of Levi, and Joseph was his great-great-uncle. - The 64-year gap between Joseph's death and Moses' birth fits with the genealogy of the Israelites in Egypt *How can this be according to:* *Exodus 12:40* Now the duration of the Israelites’ stay in Egypt *was 430 years.* *Potential explanation:* The actual sojourn in Egypt lasted 210 years (Rashi). Accordingly, the verse's reference to 430 years as the time they dwelled in Egypt means that the Egyptian exile had been decreed 430 years before the Exodus.” The rabbis begin the count of the 400 years as recorded in Genesis 15:13 with the birth of Isaac. Some additional thoughts: This DOES NOT mean 64 years the Israelites were in Egypt in total. If Joseph was approximately 40 years old when Jacob and family of 66 (not including Jacob’s sons’ wives Gen 46:26) joined him in Egypt. That gives us 70 years until Joseph's death and an additional 80 years since Moses return to Egypt. 150 years to go from 70 people to 2 million. The USA has existed 245 years and has a grew to a population of 335 million.

Shalom Brother. I am a bit confused here in your messaging.. This torah portion is about mixing our faith in Messiah with the gods and traditions of Egypt. You opened this segment quoting 3 Hollywood movies and singing the lyrics of Bob Marley in your words " One of your favorite albums of all time" Bob Marley is a known Rastafarian , the worship of the sun god "ra".the very basis of Egyptian idolatry. EVERY movie or content coming out of hollywood and the entertainment industry is an abomination onto Yah. All of these so called "christian" movies are written and directed by some segment of the catholic church and they twist the scriptures in their own depiction of these films in order to promote their own false doctrines. We are commanded in Revelation to "come out of her (Babylon and Egypt) MY people lest you partake in her plagues. This means to come ALL THE WAY OUT and not to touch the unclean things of this world and to teach others to do the same. Exodus 23:13 “Be careful to do everything I have said to you. Do not invoke the names of other gods; do not let them be heard on your lips. I say this in truth and love brother, someone new to the faith might watch this message and think that is alright to hold on to all the abominations of the secular world and still claim to be serving and walking with Yah. 1 Corinthians 10 : 21You are not able to drink the cup of the Master and the cup of demons, you are not able to partake of the table of the Master and of the table of demons. We are living in times of great deception , and if we allow even the smallest amount of leven into our houses our walk will be set off course. This is why Yeshua washed the feet of all of his disciples , so their walk would be clean. I pray that we all will continue to seek out the truth of our Master and live by every word that comes from the mouth of The Most High. Shabbat Shalom , and much love to all.Mathew 7:13-14 “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.

Thank you for commenting however we would have to agree to disagree on this one. If the Bible was to have the same conclusion as you stated, Balaam’s prophecy wouldn't be written in Numbers. As we know, Balaam was Israel's enemy until his end but his prophecies are recorded in the Word for our benefit. We even see him used in relation to false teachings in Revelation 2:14. Balaam taught Balak to entice Israel to sacrifice to false idols and sexual immorality. So why should this false teacher and idolater get any credit at all by your conclusion!? Because truth is truth... the Bible has the discernment to glean from Balaam the truth he did speak and include it. In this manner then we should have the ability to be able to glean truth from the "Balaams" of the world. No musician is perfect, Christian or secular... but some of the songs they may sing may be truth. And that's the same for movies and for Christian Sunday Church speakers for that matter. If we "throw the baby out with the bath water" we wouldn't have the wonderful prophecies of Numbers 23 relating to the Messiah. Do we follow Balaam's life decisions? Of course not... this is what would be classed as mixing with Babylon. Do we follow Bob Marley or the producers of the Prince of Egypt? Our example is Yeshua. Should we recognise and glean from truth and teach to do so in all aspects of life. Absolutely. At least that is the Bible's attitude and we hope we have shared that clearly. Shalom 💙
