I interpreted the opening montage as an opposite version of the original one. In 4.07, Kim & Jimmy are physically close, as in living and working side by side, but they're growing emotionally distant. In Bad Choice Road, they are physically distant, but emotionally close, both of them thinking of each other and longing to be together again.
@That0therGeorge2 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's a good interpretation. I just feel like the lies in the episode is what makes them not exactly the closest. But yeah, there's a lot to unpack for sure.

@@That0therGeorge I just watched this episode for the first time a week ago, so maybe this is a bad take. But I felt like this is the closest they’ve ever been. Saul is the title character, but this is Kim’s tragic story. She is all-in at this point, so all of her attempts and near-misses in reforming this man have driven her past the point of no return. She’s a good person, and she loves this man. So, surely, nothing she does for him can be bad. Until it is.

It's a slow-burn, but I still really love first season of BCS. It's nice just to seeing Jimmy try to make it as a legitimate lawyer, whilst building up all the stuff with Nacho and Mike on the side. Mike responding to the question at 10:50 in this video is just Mike repeating what his daughter in law said about Matty at group. I really think the theme of Breaking Bad was coping mechanisms and how each character deals with stress. Early Mike stuff seems to lean heavily into that. Does Mike cope by committing crime? Marie sure did.
@That0therGeorge2 жыл бұрын
I was aware of that, yeah. Was originally going to include it, but it didn't seem to fit in the script naturally and I think that tangent about Saul & morality suited that portion better. Good question! I think Mike might be a tad bit like Walt in that regard, where he's starting to do it all for his family, but really it's more for himself. i believe Mike is a bit more selfless than Walt, but I still think he enjoys his job and certainly prefers it over managing the parking at the courts lol.

Hey Other George - great content! I’m curious though, I would assume you’re living somewhere in So. England based on your accent; do you feel that you (or people in general over there) knew about New Mexico and that whole region prior to BCS/BB? Does the show feel just as “American” to you as others or no? I’m just curious bc even as an American this was an area of our country I never really thought about, and having just gone there with my wife (originally from Central EU) we both felt like it was such a unique and interesting state to explore, as we’re from NYC/NJ. Just curious to hear the perspective of you (or any other non-Americans reading) on those 2 questions. Keep up the great work!

Albuquerque specifically I knew nothing about before watching BB & BCS. And yeah the show does mostly feel American to me, more so in the desert locations than anything else, the stuff filmed in the middle of Albuquerque doesn't seem completely alien to me. I agree that pure evil villains are preferable but they still need to be written well (which Lalo clearly is) but those random evil take over the world because they felt like it types are weak
@That0therGeorge2 жыл бұрын
Sure, but that's why I described Lalo and the other 2 as "classic villains", I think what you're referring to is what I would descried as "moustache twirling villains" (irony being that Lalo and Irving have moustaches, but still lol)
@obviouslyPSM2 жыл бұрын
@@That0therGeorge That’s gota be it. Them heaving mustaches is what confused me haha but no I wasn’t criticizing you if anything I was trying to highlight how well written and rounded these characters are to show how easy it is to have an evil villain be utterly forgettable. That's a good question. My guess is that handing over 7 million dollars is suspicious enough, but is at least better coming from a lawyer than two very dodgy men.

Season 6 is pretty bad so far. Nothing of any interest has happened. It's as if the writers were given a final series, but have no idea what to do with it.
@That0therGeorge2 жыл бұрын
I mean episodes 1,2&4 are fantastic, but sure, they're a slow-burn to a bigger pay-off at the end of the season (presumably, at least) But how does this apply to episode 3? (Rock and a hard place) that episode was an insane rollercoaster ride that many seasons of the show has been leading to. Either way, you just need patience when it comes to this show. Unlike most content being produced today, it's not in a rush to get to climaxes, it builds them up slowly for a more satisfying finale.

If you're going to compare Lalo to other iconic bad guys, then you'd be doing a disservice not to mention Jules from Pulp Fiction - the actor himself cited the character as inspiration as well as the fact that they both give off the same confidently chill yet horrifyingly menacing energy - if you haven't seen the movie and like these types of characters, then you should definitely check it out
@That0therGeorge2 жыл бұрын
I have seen "Pulp Fiction" many times now, fantastic film! To be perfectly honest, I never really thought about Jules as a villain, so it just didn't cross my mind in the same way that Irving or Lorne Malvo did.
@DragonsFrogs2 жыл бұрын
Is Jules even a villain? He’s more so just a guy in the criminal underworld doing a job he’s hired for. Lalo (and those he’s compared to) are much more than that and seem to be acting upon their own motivations, not to mention them going MUCH darker than anything Jules does or references having done.
@dobrilabijelic16312 жыл бұрын
I don't think of Jules as a villain...well I suppose he is in the game. I see Jules more aligned to Mike 🤷🏻♀️. He has a code and applies rules to playing the game.

What the hell was up with the totally unnecessary and totally unmarked spoilers for Fargo and Mr. Robot??
@That0therGeorge2 жыл бұрын
I'd consider them to be very minor spoilers in the greater context of the show. Don't believe I spoiled anything from Fargo. As for Mr Robot, that took place in Season 3, which came out in 2017 (5 years ago) & the character in question is a side character and doesn't even get shown in the clip, just said by name, which is something the average viewer is going to forget if they just see the clip out of context. I'm sorry, but it seems unnecessary to have a spoiler warning for absolutely everything. If people were that bothered about the shows, they would've seen them by now. I think it's very unnecessary to give a spoiler warning for something like Iron Man's death in "Avengers: Endgame" - enough time has passed now. If it was a day after the content's release, it would be a different story. Hope that clears things up, but let me know if you still disagree, because I'm always open to changing these kinds of things in the future.
@prestonage2 жыл бұрын
@@That0therGeorge My point is only that the inclusion of them adds absolutely nothing to the video. You are drawing parallels as if doing so adds something, but it doesn't. It comes across as if you aren't confident in the content of your comments on Lalo on their own merit, so you feel the need to back them up somehow. And if it's not that, then it's just messy organization - a tangent about something else in the middle of a breakdown of a character, because you start talking about TV villains at large instead of just BCS, and that's an entirely separate topic.

Everyone says that Saul is a bad influence on her but if you were to say that to Kim, she would be the first to tell you that it’s her decision. She’s not being forced into any of this. It’s more an awakening then being corrupted.

@@That0therGeorge it’s a question of agency. Are we free in the choices we make? Look at the car crash she had and the insistence that Jimmy celebrate the sandpiper settlement. After it happened, Jimmy blames himself and she quickly responds “you didn’t make me get in that car” and that she’s an adult, realising the agency she had in that moment. Same thing for when she’s insulted by the notion that Jimmy is the reason she left mess verde. She’s pushing the agenda to take down Howard partly on the basis that she is making it happen, not Jimmy
