The recast of Jeff is probably the biggest gripe I have with the final episodes. It's just a completely different character 😢

Hot Take and maybe a little bit late to the partym but I wanted to add something: I loved Andor escpecially for the politics and character development and I can agree with everything that was said in the video. But to be honest I don't like it more or less than the other movies or shows on an emotional level (apart from acolyte and the sequels). I really enjoyed Obi Wan because of the nostalgia, I liked the first two Mandalorian Seasons and I loved most of Ahsoka. Because in the end they made me feel like a kid again. I grew up on the prequels and Clone Wars, which is why I will always get excited when Darth Vader or Luke return to the screen. Now as a aldut I am much more interested in the politics and glad they are explored more but there is no shame in liking those other shows. Sometimes all I need is Space Wizard saving the galaxy or a cute little green guy being saved by his new father.

This shows biggest downfall is this season only being the halfway point in the show. After this there’s no way there isn’t more serious suspicion of Dexter. One thing Dexter always focused on in the early seasons was blending in, in this moment that goes out the window. The spotlight is 100% on him. And because he’s unable to show any emotion the fact that he doesn’t seem affected by Rita’s death would always have the alarm bells ringing. It seemed like Clyde Phillips would’ve taken it this direction had he stayed on the show, with Deb just finding out about his past and trinity’s entire family knowing who he was. Season 5 realistically should’ve been the beginning of the end, but Showtime wanted to milk out as much money as possible after the success of season 4 so instead the writing took a huge dip for the second half of the show. Such a shame but hopefully Dexter Resurrection gives the character the ending he deserves

It is a shame. I always viewed S5-8 more as just "more Dexter" rather than a serious continuation. They contain a lot of fun episodes, especially if you're okay with a more passive viewing, but in terms of quality, they pale in comparison to the first 4 seasons.

39:25 - I'm gonna be real, I was one of those people. When they first announced the series I was kind of skeptical of basing an entire series around, as you say "the funny lawyer." Now years later I'm happy to say that they pulled it off masterfully. And the fact that they were able to make a SECOND series that's on par with "Breaking Bad" is pretty incredible.

This show, is something I had been wanting for the better part of two decades in Star Wars. Rogue One was glorious, and this show added so much to that story and Star Wars of old!
@That0therGeorge6 күн бұрын
Yeah 'Rogue One' is cool, but I always felt like it jumps about too quickly and we don't get enough time with the characters. Thankfully 'Andor' has provided us with that.

28:10 Chicanery is so so so good but the battery has always bothered me... Of course Chuck doesn't feel it. No current is flowing! its not a completed circuit. I know Chuck is obviously mentally ill, his disease is in his head and he believes that he can feel batteries regardless of this (we see him struggle with the tape recorder batteries), but... I don't know. It feels like a mistake.

Seasons 5-8 add nothing to Dexter as a character. They're more like 'Tales of Dexter' rather than the story of Dexter. You can skip straight to New Blood & understand what's happened. Debra died, by Dexter's own silly thought process, and Dexter wanted to protect Harrison from his own actions. That's it. Killing Debra remains the worst decision the show ever made. Debra was always meant to be the one to put Dexter down. His stone cold, purely logical thoughts driven by pure emotional cravings comes up against Debra's emotional responses & self doubt, but hidden underneath is an incredibly intelligent & brave woman.
@That0therGeorge7 күн бұрын
Yeah, whenever I re-watch I just do 1-4. There are some really good episodes from 5-8, but like you said it doesn't add enough to feel worth it.

Trinity was the dismiss of the show. The next seasons were average to bad, because it was impossible to top season 4. I have faith Resurrection wil be good. i had zero desire to watch Original Sin, I gave it a shoot and it's fantastic. I think it's Dexter's best since S4.

Really liked the video, so I suscribed. Can't wait to see how you grow as a content creator! Would love to see more videos with this quality. I have to admit that Season 1 is still my favorite season. Never fully connected with this episode due to two reasons related to execution, rather than the concept: 1.- I never understood how Dexter didn't stab Arthur Mitchell when he was in the van. No one would have known or noticed and Dexter shouldn't have left anything to chance (minor problem). 2.- I'm fine with Trinity killing Rita and I see what the writers were going for. However, to this day I don't understand how Arthur managed to find Dexter's house when he already searched for it online and it only led him to Dexter's apartment, where Debra was living at the time... We also need to take into account that he was on the run and he didn't have much time to do his research on Dexter's life. That makes it weird that he managed to kill Rita in such a tight timeline of events. Even with that, I'd say it is still the second best season of Dexter!
@That0therGeorge11 күн бұрын
Thank you so much, I'll try my best to keep improving. As for your first point, I sort of went over this in the conclusion section, but the biggest reason for that is because Dexter HAS to do the ritual. It doesn't work for him any other way which is why I believe he is selfishly motivated. Your second point is very fair. I'd say it is within Arthur's character to eventually figure it out, but it may have been better to get a subtle glimpse of how he actually got that information. Thanks again for the kind words and I hope to see you about in the future.
@MarkEstratocaster8 күн бұрын
@@That0therGeorge I'm not sure that Dexter really cared about the ritual at that point considering Arthur knew his true name and he could've gone after Deb or his family. I do realize that the parking lot isn't the best place to put an end to Mitchell though, so I can understand why he didn't do it, even though the parking lot was empty every time we see it lol What I do find funny is that if you remove the scene where The Trinity Killer goes to Morgan's apartment, the cohesion of the story drastically improves without the need to replace it. Is such a big problem created by an otherwise irrelevant scene to the overall plot lol You're welcome! See you on the next video!
@That0therGeorge8 күн бұрын
@ The biggest thing for me is that Deb was already in danger previously and he still didn't rush to take down Arthur. The stakes had obviously escalated, but I still think the ritual was too important. I believe Dexter genuinely cares about the safety of his family, but I don't believe he processes that in the same way a normal person would. But I do see your point and it's an interesting thing to think about. Thank you.

nice plot summary with very, very little actual analysis. please go and watch actual analysis video essays and maybe even consider remaking this video? I recommend What's Therapy's BCS videos to start. This video has nothing but clips and plot summaries. It's embarrassing to the point where the script you read just has exact phrases that characters use in dialog, right before the clips that include said phrases play to the viewer.

Amazing end to an amazing season. I have some small nitpicks with it but overall it's just great. One thing I'd have tweaked is Dexter looking to Trinity as role model to justify the dual lifestyle. To me Dexter should be always be 100% self-justified, unapologetic and unchanging. Would make him much much less sympathetic but that's when he's most interesting to watch IMO. When you're unsure how far he's willing to let everyone around him suffer. They could have played on that throughout the entire series.
