My favourite Belfry moment was at the 1985 Ryder Cup. Not only did Europe win for the first time since 1957, in the team were 4 Spaniard's including Seve, my all time golfing hero.

Fantastic show guys. The Belfry plays a little part in our family history. My 94 year old Father worked on the design and building of the M5 and M6 through the West Midlands in the 60's and early 70's. He used to stay at The Belfry before the golf course was built and it was a hotel. He always talks about the French maitre d' who worked there and was especially nice to him during his numerous stays. Whenever the golf came on (usually the Ryder Cup) he would always say: "I used to the stay there....".

Those facilities are just outrageous! Literally everything is right there for you. There are some fancy places here around Toronto, but most ranges are just outside only, hitting yellow 5 year old range balls into the abyss! I’d be a scratch instead of a 10 if I had that near me 😃 It amazes me there are as many guys on the PGA Tour from Canada as there are given the difference in facilities and length of the golf season. Great behind the scenes work Dan! Lester, hope you get your neck sorted out too!

Dan was thinking whilst you were in the media area should have interviewed Sir Lester Barnes about his tee shot at #10 and how he felt at that moment after coming off injury to make his mark at the Belfry. 😂 Shout out to all who made this Sunday Morning Show possible! Cheers!

My wife and I went to the 1993 Ryder Cup, every day, including practise days, and remember following Nick Faldo for 13 holes, then decided to move and follow a different group, as I was walking away I heard this huge roar from the crowd, to then find out that he'd holed in one, and we missed it 😫

Great show boys. I was lucky enough to go to all three day of the 1989 Ryder Cup at the Belfry. Followed the watch the match of Faldo/Woosnam vs Azinger/Beck all the way around. Also watched Ollie and Seve take Watson and O'Meara apart 6 and 5 playing in those snazzy pink jumpers. Also there again for the 1993 Ryder Cup when Sir Nick Faldo (then just Nick of course) hit the hole in one on the 14th. I asked him if his putter was for sale as he walked off the green. Got a wry smile back - which was something he never did in those days he was so focused. Great memories. Amazing venue.

Hi Dan,, Great Blog bring back good memories of the Belfrey when it first opened,it had few problems all sorted now. Played quite a few times in the late eighties,best memory 1984 the day after Seve won the open at St Andrews He came to Belfrey with Faldo,Travino,and Brain Waites, played a18 hole exhibition match in the afternoon. The morning session on the range,with Seve Finnishing off hitting 3 iron's kneeling down!.We all had lunch with the player's in a large marquee.,then the match was good fun especially from Lee Trevino he never stops talking. After the tee shots on the 18th walking alongside of Lee he asked me if there were fish in the lakes I answered yes but there's more golf balls than fish that made him chuckle 😂.Happy days.

The Belfry is a great venue to visit and play. Even for someone like me (23 handicap) who last time, struggled round the Derby course, hacked around the PGA National and then left the Brabazon for another day 😂😂 Hoping to get back there later this year but will be glued to the TV this week as I’m away on holiday in the 🌞😎👍🏼

Well done guys. Wonderful venue. First, best wishes to Bernie on getting over his neck pain. As the years go by Bernie, the old body starts complaining more and more about the accumulated wear and tear. Second, thank you Dan for this well thought through look behind the scenes, very informative and interesting insights to how these venues set up for such events. Well done. Last, I was impressed again at how smooth Paul’s golf swing is, his balance and footwork during his golf swing is about the best I’ve ever seen. Looking forward to the coming videos from your round.

I first played the Brabazon when it had just opened. I have forgotten how many years that is but every shot had to be played off a tee. I cannot recall how many strokes it took me but I loved every bit of it. Would like to play there again but I think the course would be too long for me nowadays.

Another class video Dan and gang. Here is my issue with Top Tracer ranges - they very rarely offer a bay that you can just buy balls without using the top tracer system - you pay for it whatever. Personally I do not wish to pay double the price to be told how far a range ball goes which has no resemblance to normal golf ball distance. And to cap it all the system is not that accurate. Fantastic if it attracts youngsters to golf but give options. My local range has completed a Top Tracer refit, I no longer go, way too expensive for practice but great for kids and those having some fun but they must not loose the core people who go in the middle of winter to practice.

Nice to see the academy at the Belfry, hoping to play there this summer. I think the 89 Ryder Cup was the first golf I watched on TV, although I can't remember much about it except it was a draw. If I was to pick one memory it would be the Faldo hole in one. Looking forward to Joe the Pro on this week's vlog

Great lads, enjoyed that. Visited the Ryder cup in 89 and 93 AMAZING, never knocked it on the tenth but always play it from Seves plack which as you know is longish (270ish carry although a little drop) and needs lots of fade because you can't even see the green very well. Also was doing PGA there in 1990. Happy memories.

Was on the 18th when Christy hit his 2 iron onto the green. Remember booing the USA players wives as they walked by……… fun times! As for the 10th, I hit the green off the tee……. Unfortunately it was the 16th green. 10th tee only ever time I’ve seen championship tee further forward than normal medal tees..… to tempt the pros! Fun times!

I feel spoiled because my local public course has a very similar facility with indoor/outdoor fitting bays, top tracer range, and 3 short game practice holes of around 70 yds each. The best pro shop in the area and two courses all within 2 miles of my house is pretty nice. And best of all… the main course is called the Mackenzie course after the man himself that designed it so it’s full of Mackenzie slopes for Dan to talk about.
@duncand19642 жыл бұрын
Less than an hour away for me and yet I’ve never played any of the courses at the Belfry. Had a wander round last summer and it’s on bucket list. Fully agree with Top Tracer comments, my local course Branston G & CC has it and my son has taken up the game at 23 after playing the Fishing game… 👏

Fortunate to do all the ryder cups at the belfry. In 1985 Ken Brown carved his drive into a bad place on the right of 6th. We were all saying just hack it out. Ken stood over it for ages (as he often did 🥴), then played an incredible slice out over the lake left side of fairway onto the green! 👏 In '89 European cap' Tony Jacklin spoke to my mate Rich - "would you mind moving out of the way please". In '02, with all the armed airport style security on (post 911) Phil put all his 'metals' in the tray, picked it up and walked through the detector! Caused quite a reaction - we roared ... armed officers didn't. Loads of beer, banter and we even saw some ⛳️

Another great SMS guys. Good to see “Joe the Pro” back on the channel, looking forward to the vlog (everyone’s blogging up there, wonder why?😅). Many years ago, I had my first trip to the Belfry, at the 10th, I went for it, pulled it left but missed the water, chipped over, sank the putt for birdie, easy hole😂. (A lot of luck was involved). Par on 18th after bouncing the ball onto the green off the frozen lake, also, think it was the 7th, ball bounced out of frozen bunker onto green! It can be fun playing the Belfry in the winter😂. Not only did Joe bring down a branch, looks like he worried a grey squirrel as well🤣
