It's unreal Lebron's power (Klutch's, too) in the basketball world, truly. Bronny was a good high school player who 'somehow' ended up as McDonalds All American (even though he wasn't even first team all conference in his home league). And from there it's just assumed he was awesome. But he shows essentially nothing in his freshman year at USC, which is fine, college can take some getting used to. But now that he declares for the draft (and we find out he's 2" shorter than listed!), it's back to the narrative that he was a high school 5 Star and McD All American, so he must be good. Looks like it's going to take him being on a NBA roster to find out he's a so-so basketball player (or worse). Which is really quite something when you think about it.

A big issue is that the sheer volume of comments for some of these big media sources on social media means that they won't read the actual comments and just look at the engagement numbers. There could be 10 million comments saying that people don't want so much Bronny James coverage and the company would just see "Look at all that engagement! More Bronny James stories!"
@BertholdTheFiretruck6 ай бұрын
The main part of this that really hits for me is "let me learn about the other players". Enjoying sports is partly about narratives and part of what the sports media is supposed to do is give you the tools to construct a narrative out of events (including the draft). If all you hear about is Bronny, you lack the tools to interpret what's going on in the draft to construct that story. And without that why would you even watch or care about the draft? It actively undermines the whole purpose of even covering the draft in the first place.

He’s a 6’2” 2 guard who couldn’t crack 6 PPG, with heart problems. I’ve got to assume USC would have loved him to be a great player, considering the attention he would bring the program, so I doubt it was the team not giving him a chance. In all honesty, I think he’s got a shot at being the worst player of his generation. Small 2 guards who can’t score at the college level don’t typically last long in the NBA. What are we talking about here? Saying it’s unfair to suggest his dad is the only reason he’ll make the NBA is crazy. It’s honestly disrespectful to the fringe NBA players to suggest he deserves a shot on merit. His resume does not stack up against anybody in the league.
@kenfresno21256 ай бұрын
If you just look at him objectively and ignore his last name he absolutely projects to be the worst player ever drafted in the NBA. 4/2/2 on a 15-18 college team means he projects to be a 0/0/0 guy in the NBA. Could he improve? Some, but based on what we've seen the only stat he's contributing to would be the +/-, and only the - part. Also, he's not one of these guys who will benefit from having a nutritionist and trainer in the NBA, because he's had them his entire life. He's not gonna be like Jimmy Butler or Kawhi where he can make a big jump while already in the NBA because he's finally eating, sleeping, working out and practicing correctly with all the necessary trainers/coaches in place. Bronny has already had all of that in place his entire life. 19 years of professional nutritionists, trainers, coaches, etc... and he's a 4/2/2 guy on a 15-18 college team. If LeBron had all the benefits his kid grew up with? (Assuming he keeps the same drive and doesn't slack off) He'd be averaging 40/20/20 and probably have 15 titles.

If Bronny goes to LA, Bron stays and they make a couple solid playoff runs, we’ll remember the James duo positively and all the scrutiny around it will feel silly and bitter. If Bronny plays like shit and the team he’s on sucks then it’ll be another page in the “LeGM team killer what an asshole” hater Bible. Either way, I think a father and son getting to play together in any pro sport is cool

What do you think the odds are that a 4/2/2 college player contributes to an NBA roster? Based on the entire history of the NBA I would set the odds at 4,374:1

Idk man. The James family kinda did this to themselves. Lebron could’ve stayed quiet about playing with bronny. Bronny could’ve declined entering the draft. So no sympathy deserved

The biggest thing about the draft should be about if any teams are trading out of the lottery for a pick further down the line in 2026, 2027, or 2028. I would like to see what the premium is between the different years. Could a lottery pick this year be worth a 17-21 next year or later?

tbf as someone who was also named after my father, he was set up for being compared for life before he even took his first breath, short of somehow topping lebrons career, he didnt stand a chance and it really is a shame

To be fair, he's not exactly close to toppling his father's legacy. At 19 LeBron averaged 20/5/5 in the NBA. At 19 Bronny averaged 4/2/2 in college. If his name was Kirk Hinrich Jr. he'd sill be a massive disappointment.

I feel about as bad for Bronny James as I can toward anyone whose family has that much money. He seems like a perfectly fine player who can be a solid, workmanlike NBA performer! And he's going to get drafted and dogged by comparisons to his father until he either quits, loses his mind, or somehow metamorphoses into the greatest player of all time which will not happen because that's not how the human body or basketball work!

Are you a scout? I can guarantee if his name wasn't James you wouldn't care or talk about how good he can be. There's players that are better with more potential but do you even know their names? Nah because the name ain't James. Dude is below mid

The Jazz, Knicks, and Wizards have their 2nd picks late in the 1st round. I could totally see the Jazz with tons of cap space and a lottery pick already would draft Bronny. Knicks dont have a lot of space but could pull it off, and Washington probably doesnt have a chance without some trades

It’s not 1:1 but i always compare Bronny’s heart injury to Marco Rossi, who got myocarditis. It took Marco four years to become an effective NHL player, and the difference is Marco was ALWAYS considered to be one of the top players in his draft in an extremely strong class. Bronny is not going to be a good NBA player.

I'm just going to say when I've talked to any person about Bronny (none are media affiliated) I haven't heard a soul put Bronny on the same trajectory as Lebron. We all know he is not him and will have his own career, at his own pace. There are no special expectations here.

Yes Jonathan Givony covers everyone but also he's one of the primary reasons Bronny gets this kind of coverage because he put him in the Lottery to start the season despite Bronny literally having a heart attack months prior, like that some insane clout goblin shit, and because Givony and Draftexrpress (who is a subsidiary of ESPN now since Mike Schmitz sold the site off) sets the pace for most scouts the Bronny as a prospect convo was immediately poisoned with polarized takes.

For the record Lebron is not liked by many because of the diva antics, exhausting a teams draft capital, stat padding over winning, load management, standing for something until its too controversial, throwing teammates under the bus, never taking accountability, passive aggressively yelling at teammates not covering tor him not playing defense, calling himself the GOAT, etc. Has very little to do with what he did to do what he did in the east in the big picture. Its the headache or extra that comes with him.

To me, it seems like LeBron is trying to leverage his own place in the game to guarantee his son has a legit spot in the NBA. That's his main goal at this point in his career, rather than say trying to be the centerpiece of a championship team. LeBron might feel like his legacy is cemented with the 4x championships / MVPs / Finals MVPs and all-time scoring record. So whether he gets 6 titles or 4 makes little difference to him. Personally, I could see the Lakers going into rebuild mode like the end of Kobe's career, and you see LeBron play out the last season this year on a bad Lakers team before retirement. They could trade AD, acquire future picks, lessening the pressure of possibly "wasting" one on a player not ready in Bronny. Alternatively, maybe the Lakers draft Bronny, but also trade LeBron to a team in better position to win. I think that another title would be extremely beneficial to LeBron's legacy, even if he's a 2nd or 3rd option. As far as Bronny goes, he has potential and projects similar to Kyle Lowry IMO (the ceiling as a CP3 type) as a stocky PG with a streaky shooting ability. If he develops as a good facilitator and shooter, he'll have a future in the league. Worth possibly a mid first round pick, best suited for a team like the Lakers if they're rebuilding and have a few years to develop and acquire young players.

I've said this before but all the attention on Bronny and his current situation could be a great litmus test for his younger brother Bryce James. Does he want to have the same circus when his time comes whether his skills might be greater or not? All the media focused on James potentially playing with his eldest son while Bryce continues to develop under the radar. When he is likely eligible to announce his NBA intentions should he want to do so his brother will probably be riding a bench somewhere while LeBron is recently retired and eyeing ownership of a franchise.
