I have been a resident of Simpsonville, one of a number of neighboring communities to Greenville, for 19 years. Up until 3 - 4 years ago I believed I was living in heaven on earth. Sadly, that is when we began seeing a flood of people moving here from other states. Each of the local governments signed building permit after permit after permit without regard to societal impact, our infrastructure, our roads or our very way of life and the building continues at a fever pitch. I dare say that our elected representatives have ruined the Upstate of South Carolina from what it used to be. I will never forget or forgive what Simpsonville's mayor said a few years back, "Growth is good, right?". Good for who? He previously ran on "fixing traffic issues" and he recently declared in his re-election bid that he would "address traffic congestion". In the past six years he has done nothing to help the situation. This, sadly, is what the Greenville area has become.

I lived in Greenville since 2000. It was very cheap compared to NJ and jobs were aplenty, precisely because there was no local competition in terms of high class professionals with advanced degrees that all these European companies need. One thing is true: the dating scene is non-existent in Greenville if you are a non-Hispanic outsider. People get married like 3 days after graduating college, the ones who actually go to college, or leave and go to experience life in NYC, or similar.

I drive from NE FL to Charleston to see my mom and the condition of SC roads is horrendous so that is the entire state. Maybe they need to tax gas more rather than vehicles to pay for road maintenance. That way people passing through or visiting contribute some. Gas in SC is at least $.50 gallon cheaper than FL but we don’t have personal property tax on cars. Everything else you said sounds just like NE FL
@HomesoftheUpstate3 ай бұрын
Funnily enough they just raised the gas tax -but they keep not fixing the roads. It's definately one of the big downsides of SC. A few years ago we had a 750M budget surplus...which in my opinion could have gone right to the roads.

Blinkers, tailgating, 10 miles under the speed limit, cell phones at the wheel scrolling fb lol not paying attention the light has turned green. And much more. Like almost everyday on my commutes. Idk maybe it’s bc I’m from upstate ny we like to “move our ass” so to speak.

I agree with the 10 under the limit. When I was in Houston I got a warning for doing 70 in a 60 during morning traffic. Here they seem to encourage driving slow. More ppl have died in reaction to driving too slow and the lack of reacting.
@livingbeyondvision48637 күн бұрын
I'm from MA. I moved here in 2007. I agree. Driving here is challenging. Tailgating is soooo bad! Years ago, my Dad taught me that if you can't see the tires on the car in front of you, you are too close. Also, if you can't see the person's headlights behind you, they are too close. Most everytime, I am at a stop light, there is someone SUPER close to me. I inch up to put some distance, and they inch up right behind me! It's like I am pulling them on a string. Also, the horn beeping is insane. You will be at the traffic stop light at The Shops of Greenridge at Woodruff Rd 4-way stop. There are tons of cars, but you will hear someone beeping their horn....WHY??!! There are so many cars, no one knows where it is coming from or why they are beeping. It's WILD!

Considering I make my livelihood on it, it was stressful and honestly, I still feel lucky in comparison to what happened to so many people in Asheville. My suggestion though? Take a trip down here, there are a lof of nice places to go. See it for yourself. Just don't get too nervous about all the downed trees from the tropical storm.

As a native to Greenville, I can say drug abuse is rampant, especially meth and heroin usage. Unfortunately, with that homelessness is also on the rise. Break-ins are now quite common. My home has been broken into along with 4 other homes on my street, and I'm in a desirable neighborhood where 2 bedroom, 1 bath bungalows sell for $350k. I recommend getting an app like Neighbor's to see for yourself the activities taking place from people posting videos of packages being stolen off of porches, people wandering through back yards and unto porches, as well as trying to get into vehicles. On a different note, medical has certainly gotten so much worse. It can now take an average of three months to get a doctor's appointment when two years ago you could get in right away. Its also common to wait 2 hours at your appointment before getting seen because the doctor's offices are over booking their appointments. Last week I had to leave a doctor's office after waiting more than 2 hours, only to be told when I asked how much longer it would be, that he was running yet another hour behind schedule. It took months to get that appointment. These are two of many negative changes to the area I've experienced. Also, if you plan on coming to Greenville for the Southern experience, it no longer exists! I spent many years away from South Carolina living up and down the west coast, in San Francisco and Portland, before returning home, and I can tell you Greenville has more of that feel and attitude now than it does anything southern. True Southern hospitality no longer exists in Greenville.

Regarding the housing prices that have gone up, we have the same issue here, and between housing taxes and food costs New Jersey is becoming unaffordable For most people. To rent a 2 Bedroom Pl. is between $2700 and $3000 a month and 3 to 4 bedrooms could be between 3000 and 4000 a month. Opioids are everywhere and we have our fair share of that problem here as well, but I still find that driving in your area. I am not as white knuckled as I am when I drive in New Jersey.
