I moved here from California as a teenager 2003, I thank my mom all the time. Cali is a great vacation away once a year, but I love living in Greer.. 15 min away from a little badass downtown, Greenville, and 45 minutes to an hour to Asheville and a grip of outdoor fun! Some of the best hiking and mountain biking in the nation is in this area (Pisgah, DuPont, Appalachian Trail, etc) the beaches are beautiful. Hilton Head, Savannah and Charleston to name a few. No pro teams you have go to Atlanta or Charlotte to watch NBA, Baseball and NFL. That’s a good thing about living in the upstate, it’s 2 hours to ATL and 1 hr 30 min south of Charlotte. Greenville is also booming with growth. I think Greenville County alone had 300,000 to 400,000 people in 2003 when we moved here, now right around 700,000 people. Upstate population is 1.5 million and in certain areas traffic has got out of control because they didn’t think all these people would move here so they are expanding roads, freeways, etc all over the upstate. That can get aggravating but it’s all good. Yes it’s hot as hell during the summer, really if it wasn’t 80% humidity during July & August it probably wouldn’t be that bad and cold / mild winters. I could go on and on but I’ll stop lol. I love it here, it doesn’t mean you have to, just my opinion.

I live in Greenville, plenty of mountain parks and trails to explore. Last year had to much snow, had 8 inches. No snats here in upstate, use to live in South Ga. on Florida line. No bugs compared to south GA. Really love living here, plenty to do.

Hello there kind man! Enjoyed this & appreciate you takinv the time! You hit some points that one would be surprised, matter in quality of life!!! I relocated to a westward region of Massachusetts just miles from NY state & Vermont. So im a northerner but i grew up between Mass and CA and i lived in Arizona. So i have experience beyond a limited bubble and definitely believe in considering other options if it betters one's life circumstances and goals, aspirations, etc. Although i also relate with familiarity brings comfort, even in lousy area's, if you "know" it, you can welcome it because too much drastic change can be very hard on the psyche and I learned that the hard way!!! I took change a bit too far and had too much done to me that had devastating affects. I've learned from this and since my mission here didn't go according to plan, or as hoped, i am looking into Greenville SC and researching the technical college there since i was supposed to continue here but don't know if i will. I have a con-job condo I'd have to market hard to sell. I will be lucky to attract a New Yorker since locals don't buy condo's here typically. I'm saving this video and your information, you might be a helpful contact to have! I looked at listings to compare for price this area versus Greenville and saw some interesting opportunities for my circumstances and lovely homes although my guess is due to housing in general and your growth there, the prices were a bit higher than i anticipated but i guess that is hard to avoid and in nicer places and high demand localties, is probably why. I looked up a couple years back and found a condo for 70 grand, pretty good but now i saw toenhouses brand new for hundreds of thousands. I definitely do NOT want to live close to anyone ever again, beneath anyone, around anyone who doesn't work, and NO condo/HOA'$!!! I'm kinda unique combination of deep desire for privacy while enjoying life and bussle of a city, but not overcrowding or depressed, low quality clientele. A strategy is necessary 🤔🤓 You're home and surrounding environment are EVERYTHING to the outcome of your health, well being & success!!! If it's anything ive learned, it's that!!! This region ended having bugs that horrified me, i wish id known but i was coming from twenty years of terror and hell, researching wasn't possible but i am not disregarding anything this time around and awake at the wheel now!!! I won't make the same mistakes again and am stronger and learned the horrific consequences are no joke when buying a home!!! Water & wind are definitely destructive and flood insurance is very expensive!!! Your advice to forwarn people is doing a great service to people! I wish id had the heads up before coming here!!! I had no idea moving barely over an hour away in my state would put me in such a bizarre, horrible world!!! The most important place on earth is home 🏡💗🕊️🙏🏻☺️🙋🏼‍♀️🌅🌸🦋

I can attest to the tourism bit. Used to live in Summerville, and I avoided downtown for the entire month of April due to the Flowertown/Azalea Festival. Was almost impossible to go anywhere in Summerville during that time of the year due to traffic, and blocked roads to provide safe walking space.

Uh....we have bears in Greenwood. Also, the performing arts are really lacking unless you are in the bigger cities: Charleston Spoleto Festival, Greenville, Aiken and Columbia are the places to be if you desire performing arts.

Crime has gone up and homeless has increased. I could walk out in my yard at 2 am in the country now I have to be armed. Some lady close was raped and her house was burnt down. Thieves are stealing cars in broad daylight. I caught one ridding a four wheeled through my backyard checking out my building. I've had to buy cameras and put up a fence to keep the homeless men out of my yard. I miss 2018 .

I moved here in low country SC last October and hate it. 360 days of summer heat. Bugs are the number one pest and they come in by the billions. There are no pretty leaves in the fall in low country. If I need to go to Walmart and bigger places like that I have to go to the bigger surrounding towns like Anderson, greenville and simpsonville . For the most part Anderson is 20 minutes away so that’s where I usually go. But I enjoy the simple and country type life in belton. Greenville is like high class and fancy compared to belton 😂

@@ZephyreWasHere What's big? Our biggest are probably orb weavers, but they weave really pretty webs in the spring and aren't an issue. I think the biggest I see inside are wolf spiders, not a hazard and probably about the size of a half dollar. The worrisome ones are black widows and brown recluses as far as I know. (not a spider expert!)

I love SC. I have my own personal reasons, I wanted to get the hell away from my family in NY, and it worked! I put states & highways between us, and I'm so happy. Here are the bad parts, Greenville is expensive, undergoing gentrification and resembles NY. The pay sucks, depending on your profession. Depending where you live, determines taxes. There are no car inspections so people that cannot drive, drive around with no mirrors front/back ends, doors etc. On worst drivers list continuously, no turn signals. Infrastructure was not anticipating influx. People do not like hearing the truth, so don't tell them. High cost of living. It's not cheap! POLLEN! Other than that, I love this state! Awesome gun laws, conservative state that loves it's military. Those horrific Soros funded BLM crap, didn’t happen here! If you're fleeing your blue states because of your elected officials, and plan on voting the same, please stay there. Thank you.😮

Also moved here from NY ( Spartanburg ). For those who do not share Mr. Wrights desire to cling to a dead southern culture let me provide hope. With the growth of major industry come jobs. Jobs that require education and skills not necessarily found among SC residents in numbers needed to satisfy these new opportunities. Many like me fill those positions by moving here and bringing our progressive world views with us. I’m delighted to discover that even though local and state level politics are still dominated by right wing conservatives there is a strong and growing movement towards more liberal and inclusive thinking. I live in Greenville. I do like it here, HOWEVER, when my job moved me here from Cape Cod, I was told access to beach and mountains was a big selling point. In Mass, I could walk to a beach. HERE, it's a 4 hour drive to the beach. I miss being close to the beach. If you are a beach bum, you should not move here. Cost of living is better than Mass.

We, me and my twin sister moved to old Greer/Taylors in August of 2022; I find drivers off the hook of insanity, running red lights and just doing what they want to to do on Wade Hampton Blvd; and any other road... other than that I like the parks and the 4 seasons

Coming from a state outside the region. Not many residents and community officials seem concerned with uncontrolled housing and commercial growth. It seems they just want the revenue with new construction above all else. Developers get their way and projects seem rubber stamped for approval. Typical transplants and retirees are largely coming from urban/ suburban metros with an above average national costs of living and could care less about uncontrolled growth. You might not have needed strict zoning laws at one time but it's pure foolishness to not have them now.

I live in South Carolina, and used to live in Greenville. South Carolina is one of the worst states to live. People are stupid, prices aren't stable, very poor state, and pathetic governor. People are so set in their way, and judgmental. The only good things are it's green, trees everywhere, and a veterinary in Greenville gives lower prices, and discounts, to people on disability, and low income. The schools are absolutely horrible

I just took a visit. I hate to bring race in it, but I can relate from my own experiences. The white people there look at me like I don't fit. If I drive in their neighborhood to just look around, they would look at me like a thief in the night. I find other places with more diversity more comfortable for me. If I went to some type of store and most to all are Caucasian, I will not enter. It get busy, no space to even walk without some people almost striking you with a bike. Its just ugh. Don't even ask around for help because most people, especially older people, find it to be an inconvenience. I still see myself looking into other cities, but I prefer Georgia. Most people there are well-mannered and kind. No matter where you are at. Sc is pretty, but the people aren't.

@Hunter225 Kid you not, some of the people, including teens and children, look mad or upset. Rarely a smile... a man literally had his daughter in a small wagon and was pulling the hell of that wagon. Speed walking over the mud, and the mud sprayed on her. He looked very upset. He was with his wife and kids at the beach, and he looked like he wanted to blow things up. He was so upset. I don't know why people there are like this. I am now in FL, saving to move back to Georgia. But if anything changes, I know SC is out my list. And flying roaches are a thing over there. Oh lord, I packed my things and left. It's gone now. In FL, I rarely ever saw a flying bug. It's easier to get rid of those who crawl, not fly. Too much. Sorry for the rant. I saw your comment and knew I wasn't going crazy. I tell people, if you're white and have a great income, then this is for you. If not, be cautious. Sad, but it's true. The inner-city, with more blacks, isn't good either. I'm happy where I'm currently at. 😌

@Hunter225 In life, all we can do is move forward. I, myself, love every race of people, but there are some who just don't. All they see is race. Everyone can face feeling discriminated against. Racism is still very real, and I saw it first hand when, as a kid, I saw my black peers mocking white folks in our school. Saying, "Come here, white girl," instead of calling out her actual name. It's sad, really. Hope you're doing OK and living your best life, no matter what.
