The Budget Mom

4 жыл бұрын

Today, Ryen is making her first appearance on KZbin! We will be sharing BOTH of our budgets, doing a side by side comparison of our February 2020 paychecks, and looking at how Ryen organizes her budget getting paid twice a month.
Before, I got paid on the 5th and the 20th, but now that I am self-employed full-time, I get a paycheck once a month, on the first day of every month.
In this video, I walk you through every step of my budget and give you the details into what it looks like to use a successful realistic budget is someone's every-day life.
I have been sharing my real budget for over a year on Instagram, but only recently started sharing my budget on KZbin. By sharing my actual budget, I hope to show you the process and steps behind paycheck budgeting. I also hope it helps you understand the psychological decisions behind money management.

Maybe you could do a video one of someone who is barely starting and clueless. Lol. But maybe track that persons from start to finish. And show how you can help them achieve budget goals.

I really enjoyed this video with Ryen! I hope y’all do more together. Also, since you have the TBM office now you should have some of your subscribers jump on camera with you and show how they use your planner too! I bet there are a lot of different way to use it! My husband gets paid biweekly and so do I but we are on opposite weeks so we budget every week. I have a hard time with my grocery money lasting 7 days there’s no way I could put all that cash in my wallet for the whole month I’d burn through it. Lol

Thank you for the clarification on the starting balance. I was one of the persons getting wrapped around the axle with what I did at the end of the month for the next month. If the starting balance is whatever you have in your checking account on the first day of the month, that makes things so much easier. Hi Ryen! Liked to see your budget too. And your smiling face 😄. Please show how Ryen closes out her January in the next video. I would be very interested in that too. Still need help with the “Where Did My 💰 Go?” worksheets.

Yes! This was actually really helpful seeing a Bi-weekly Paycheck method cause that’s the way my budgeting system is setting up to be! I actually took the initial and start budgeting this year after I came across your page and let me tell you, I’m off to a pretty good start! All these methods you are offering do actually work! And it actually dose help to see something in person and examples then just reading instructions! So thank you for this!

I'd love to see that too. I use the Digit app in place of the cash envelopes. You can create different goals there and save for each one. Then when I need the money I pull from it. Like Miko I stuff each Digit goal when I get my paycheck so it's removed from my checking acct. Your money there is FDIC insured and you get 1% interest every couple of months. So your money is making money. If you'd like to try it here is my code. By signing up you can get $5. I've been using it for about 3 years now digit.co/r/hs5zKYIQ8h?wn

Hi Miko! Love your workbook and philosophy! One quick suggestion: since filling out the Paycheck Bill Tracker is dependent on the Calendar page, it would be great if the pages were side-by-side instead of on the opposite sides of the same piece of paper. That way your readers could copy from the Calendar to the Paycheck Bill Tracker without flipping the page back and forth. Just an idea for future editions of your fantastic product :)

That is a good idea but many of us who use her book have several paycheck bill tracker pages that we use, so we still end up doing some flipping.

Just put $51 of my $79 Jan. Challenge money and $50 from my Feb. Challenge to pay off a credit card. 🏆👏🏻 ALSO, LOVED that halftime. It was something else, but I was a proud latina during those minutes. It was the one time throughout the lose of my father that weekend, that I was clapping, laughing, and enjoying my time. Shakira added things that means a lot to latinas and Lebanese community ! It was just awe 🥰 It was just unique just like every other halftime show along the years. It was uff just 🤯 🙈🙊 But thank you for this video ! I am tackling debt and saving my emergency fund all at once ! And Christmas 🤯 So hectic, but I am ready to have this 2020 different ! It is great to see someone that uses the workbook as paychecks instead of more of a “monthly” budget. Me and my hubby have 6 to 7 checks a month, so there is a lot going on and the “monthly” budget wasn’t really relatable. Thanks for sharing Ryan! Suggestion: we have lots of videos with your example. But in June I'm retiring and will, literally overnight, become a monthly with my pension and social security . That's gonna be really interesting to switch over...lol. I love your videos! I have just started getting my March budget setup today. I had printed out January's and did nothing with it. Didn't even print out February's. The time to officially get started is now! :) This is the first time seeing Ryen in your videos and it was so nice to see the way that she goes about hers considering she does have some debt and gets paid 2x a month. I do have a question though about zero based budgeting that I haven't seen anyone address. How much do you make sure you keep in your checking account? You make sure to have all of your money go somewhere, to bills, or to envelopes, but you obviously have to have a balance in your checking acct at all times to make sure you don't get fees etc. Thanks! I look forward to your March video! :)

This is so interesting to see. I’ve been so hung up on monthly budgets for so long (my late husband was paid monthly), and now I receive money all through the month, so I’ve been running a cash float in my txn account (I never use cash for anything) and letting that dwindle during the month, but it’s always repaid by month’s end (I see the whole year at a glance as well as a monthly breakdown). Your system is more fluid and requires less discipline. I might have to convert!

Yes I get paid once a month and I blow my money QUICK, which when I got paid twice a month I feel relieved that I’ll get money again lol. But I’m working on it. I’m thinking maybe splitting it and only stuff 2 weeks at a time and see how that goes. GREAT video.

I use a cheap notebook from the dollar store and follow these steps writing out my categories every payday on Friday lol. I’m like Ryan, my paycheck fluctuates and I don’t write hard numbers until I see the money in my account, then I go from there. I was trying to follow Dave Ramsey plan and I reached my $1,000 emergency Fund, but I’m going to continue building it because I’m just not comfortable with that amount at all lol. I’m continuing to save and when I reach my goal amount then I work to pay off my debt.

I love that you got your assistant to share!!!!! The dynamics for my budgeting is different then then your examples. I am married and I track both mine and my husbands paychecks on a weekly basis. He is paid weekly and I get paid bi biweekly. I would love if you would be able to get someone who would be willing to share that is similar to me.

Hi, When is the restock for the workbook (yellow) 😭 I live in Australia and I love your budget workbook. This is the most generous when it comes to pages and I also get paid every fortnightly and applying for my second job so might get paid every week. 😭 so sad that I missed this out.. hoping for a restock soon ❤️ more powers to you and your Team Miko! 😍

I ordered the teller slips and used them at the beginning of the month and I must say, I really like them!!! I felt good marching into the bank with my envelopes and my teller slip! 💪🏾

I just bought a wallet like the one you use. Only started this month but already going well. Like you said paying cash instead of swiping plastic really makes you think before you buy.

Amber Patterson I got one in blue as I’m not a girly pink girl x I got mine from Amazon. Filofax Safiano (sp?) think it was called. Then I bought some clear plastic wallets to go in to use as my daily envelopes. Just completed 1st month and it’s working well so far. Next month will be my first whole cash only month. A little nervous and excited at same time!

Considering we're encroaching on tax season and you're also self employed, what is your advice for those of us who file a 1099? Do you have a separate savings account to save for taxes? If so, would you recommend putting your gross monthly/ bimonthly income in the top L then saving X% for taxes in the 'savings' category? Not asking specific percentages as I know you're not a tax professional, but general advice for using your method would be appreciated in regards to setting aside savings. thanks loving this method so far!!
