Love your pheasant flies man, so creative, simple, and effective, will definitely be tying this one up, looks like a perfect sized-up counterpart to the Gartside Sparrow, another fantastic little bug

I love the format of this video!!! I wish every fly tying vid was 1 min or less!!! I also understand the need for full format with newer people but most of us just need a materials list. Thank you!

OUTSTANDING! I'm new to tying my own flys. It's very addictive. I really enjoy your videos and your explanation of the process for tying. I'm a disabled Navy veteran. I don't get to fish as often as I like, but this has really helped me get my fix! I've also gotten my grandson interested in tying! Thank you so much and keep it up. If it wouldn't be to much trouble, would you please do some more mice of different varieties. Thank you!

It's really cool to watch your videos. Great format to see your tie and then the explanation tie. You're so knowable and explain why you do it a certain way. Learning many years of tying in a 15 minute video. I'm in my sixties and got into tying my own bucktails for stripers. I would love to do more flyfishing, but need a double knee replacement first. Your videos are driving me to tying even if I have to wait to use them. Thanks.

Oh man, i had the same issue having to improv fine dubbing since I'm in Charleston SC and don't have much use for it. Ended up blending marabou scraps with the super soft fur from my dogs undercoat, and it's actually AWESOME material 😂

Greetings from TC! you weren't kidding when you said it makes a mess! The flashabou dub is worse than the marabou. BUT worth it.. what a cool fly! Now I have to buy another fly box, I have too many!

Nice one Gunnar! This simple pattern just goes to prove that you don't need a 10-material fly to catch fish! I use a lot of bead-chain eyes on my shallow water streamers. I usually tie the chain on top of the hook so it rides hook point up so it is less likely to pickup weed or snag. You might have nicked your thread on the bead-chain - I always remove the sharp burr from the bead with some 400 grit sandpaper so it doesn't cut my tippet.

@Robert Pelletier Robert, the hook (style, size and wire weight) and how the streamer is dressed affects how well it rides point-up. I use a regular length hook shank (1x long), one size larger than if I was tying a conventional style streamer. Since I usually fish these flies on or close to the bottom (sculpin and darter imitations) I weight the whole shank with 28 awg copper wire so that the fly sinks and sits horizontally. A slightly buoyant deer hair head makes bottom crawling and scooting (dragging and short strips) easy to do - my favorite method for bass in low water! I caught several nice ones this morning doing just that, half the takes were after the fly was sitting on the bottom (5 -10 seconds) after a short strip - love sight-fishing for smallmouths! Cheers!

Gunner, the petijean magic tool or diy version is perfect for making your Maribou collars with the waste materials. It’s pricy but I use it on almost every streamer I tie.
@mattfleming863 жыл бұрын
Yes! I use a metal clip instead of the petijean but the method is solid as heck...

Duuuude I’m gonna tie this soon as I get some more materials! I tied a few of my version of a sculpin and can’t keep the trout off of it. This fly will be killer for me here in Ak for rainbows

Great video. Try to find flashabou dubbing. I can’t. Thanks so much for the idea. Usually do better with darker colors. I back off with the flash on a lot of my smallmouth patterns. Once again thanks

Are you buying pheasant pelts with wings to get that marabou or do the pelts without wings still contain the good marabou?

Nice pattern, and I like that it uses plenty of pheasant feathers. But the head... the head. I hate to tie it. There must be a better way. I don't see myself tying this more than a couple times.

Good job using all the feather. I cringe every time I see fly shop employees just tossing all that usable feather in the garbage. Call me cheap but I can’t afford to waste good useable materials.
