I just tried a similar build yesterday. The expensive rune can help finding chain power ups. Without self-chaining, Chromatic Bolt's hit rate is just so low.

Think droping the arcane powet for a faster casting skill to increase the chance for chain procs

I feel like maybe it would have been better to pair Chromatic Bolt with a bunch of other skills with different traits. That way they could all chain each other and you’d get mad procs off of them.

My favorite build so far is Chaos mage with 3 Flamethrovers - they apply debuffs Just too fast. Could use poision cloud as well. 0.25 VS 0.5 sec per hit but Cloud are all over the place.

Feels like this is the wrong approach to the idea of chains. Since chromatic bolt cant trigger itself, theres no reason to have 4 of them. For mad chains you probably just want skills that share the same traits, as many of them as possible, but necessarily different skills. Ideally with fast cast rates. So chromatic bolt + electric bolt + electric skills or So chromatic bolt + fire bolt + fire skills And then focus on the respective chains If there are skills other than chromatic bolt that share multiple traits that can be triggered (like slam + electric or slash + electric), then those would be the best.

The focus wasn't chains but chromatic bolts. The initial goal or idea was to use the chains that I assumed would trigger a bolt with another bolt. If that wasn't the case I'd agree with what you say

22:13 why did you not take Agile? I've noticed you rarely pick movement speed upgrades even though the other option(s) is bad or not very usable for the specific build you're going for. Movement speed is arguably the best kind of defense up to a certain point where your speed is so fast that you accidentally run into attacks, which is closer to 300%.

Aren't the conversion traits that cause debuffs to apply other debuffs common? It's been a while since I last played but I'm pretty sure that's why you never saw them.

I believe they are rare (blue rarity). I might actually be wrong though

they are not common, they're quite rare actually. Especially when Dex isn't even using the rune for them
