I recently re-watched "Dot and the Kangaroo" for the first time in who knows how long. This is rather obscure Australian kid's movie that has all-animated characters in an all-live action background, how weird is that? But of all the odd and bizarre moments it has, none are as eerie and haunting as this song here.
I don't own any of this footage.

Yikes. This song TRAUMATIZED me as a kid, and I just randomly remembered it today and looked it up. The creepy lyrics, the haunting melody, and the hallucinogenic animation...it gave me nightmares for years. The '70s truly were an "anything goes" era for kids' entertainment.

You think the 70s were like that? Just look at the stuff from the 80s, Fox and the Hound, Black Cauldron, Don Bluth movies, etc.

Even though it's been i don't know how many years since i last saw Dot & The Kangaroo i still started singing along to this one. One of my fave songs from the movie i think, along with Dot in the pouch of a red kangaroo (not sure of the proper name of the song). Love the mix of live action and animation.

I used to watch Dot and The Kangaroo a lot as a kid. Unfortunately, none of my friends seem to know about it (I'm Brazilian). The Bunyip part used to scare me so much, and yet I've always thought it was an amazing song. I'd love to rewatch the film. The ending used to kill me every time, so sad.

Whoa. This is the first time I've ever seen this, and I have to say, this is fantastic. The art is really nice - I've always loved the Australian aboriginal style - and the way they used real video for the backgrounds gives it a really interesting feel. Song's pretty interesting too, especially when the female voice comes in. I've got to get my hands on this movie.

Oh, the Bunyip's very bad, And the Bunyip's very bold, And they tell me that the Bunyip's Now a thousand years old So, you better come home quickly, And you better hide very soon, Or the Bunyip's going to get you In the Bunyip of moon The Bunyip's partly animal, The Bunyip's partly bird The Bunyip makes the strangest sounds... That you have ever heard So, you better come home quickly, And you better hide very soon, Or the Bunyip's going to get you In the Bunyip moon The Bunyip's always nasty And the Bunyip's very mean. He's the most unpleasant monster... That you have ever seen So, you better come home quickly, And you better hide very soon, Or the Bunyip's going to get you In the Bunyip moon In the moon... In the moon... In the moon...

I appreciate the upgrade in video quality, but the song sounds off to the movie version (which is the version used in that one upload that has 700k+ views on it). This sounds like it was performed in a different key to the original-- almost as if the song was played at a 0.75 playback speed and then uploaded 1.25

That doesn't mean anything, since it could be released on dvd in a slower pitch. I'm not accusing you of doing anything to the song. And I've been watching this since I saw it on HBO sometime in the early 1980s. I'll dig out my dvd to see if my version has been slowed down, as well.

And me and a lot of people have had the same issues with more recent and well known movies than this, for example Balto 2 and the song "Who You Really Are". Here's what it sounds like this on the official DVD release kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYiQeXuchM9mpLs&t=2m34s, and yet here's what you get with most videos of that song on KZbin kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpjOk35vrc6Lpsk&t=30s. I and many others have the same strong-as-titanium feeling that it's the same story with this song, and if this doesn't mean anything to you, well then I honestly don't know what does.
